 Temple info -2250 கோயில் தகவல் -2250 Aadhipureeswarar Temple, Chintadripet, Chennai Aadhipureeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Chintadripet, a well-known locality in Chennai City in Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Aadhipureeswarar and Mother is called as Thiripura Sundari. The Temple is situated on the banks of River Coovum. This Temple along with Aadhi Kesava Perumal Temple are considered as Company Shrines of Chennai City. Etymology Chinna - Thari - Pettai (i.e. the hand operated weaving machine in Tamil is called as Thari and Chinna means small) was changed to Chintadripet.   History The Chintadripet area was planned and developed as an area for weavers by the then rulers of India, East India Company, in 1734.  Temple info -2249 கோயில் தகவல் -2249 Kidathalaimedu Durgapureeswarar Temple Kidathalaimedu Durgapureeswarar Temple:  This place is around 15 Kms from Mayiladuthurai on the Manalur Road.  Though Kumbabhishekam was performed in 1988, there were not many devotees visiting this place-mainly due to poor road condition- and the temple was in a pitiable condition.  Thanks to the initiative taken by a religious trust, another kumbabhishekam was performed in 2011 and the temple is definitely in better shape now.  Transportation continues to be a bottle neck. The temple is dedicated to Yama. Legends According to Hindu mythology, Manmatha the Hindu Cupid provoked the ire of Shiva and was burnt to death. The Puradhana Vaneswarar Temple in neighbouring Pattukkottai lies on the spot where the alleged incident took place. However, on Yama's request, Manmatha was restored to life. The Yama Dharmaraja Temple is believed to have been built at the spot where he was restored to life. Once, the Devas of the celestial world came to Kailash to have the darshan of Lord Shiva.  As he was in deep meditation, they used Manmatha to disturb His meditation-Nishta.  Opening his eyes in all fury, the sparks burnt Manmatha reducing him to ashes.  Responding to the prayers of his wife Rathi, he was restored to life at a spot near this place....
