Mukundanur Valampuri Vinayakar temple

Mukundanur Valampuri Vinayakar Temple:  Mukundanur is only around 13 Kms west of Tiruvarur and is very close to the well known Engan Temples.  Many devotees, first visit this temple, offer prayers to the Ganesa, before visiting His brother and  in Engan.  The temple is kept open from 8 to 10 am and from 6 to 8 pm.

This is another ancient temple which is nearly 1000 years old.  This is believed to have been built in the Chozha regime.  However, as the old temple was totally damaged, a new structure was built and the last Kumbabhishekam was performed in 2013.

This temple is associated with Musukunda Chakravarthi of Ishvaku clan ( Sri Rama also belongs to this dynasty).  I have already mentioned about this emperor in my write up on Shri Thyagarajaswamy temple, Tiruvarur.  He was responsible for bringing the Lingam from the heaven.  Before undertaking the venture, he prayed here to the Vinayaka.  Hence the place was called Musukundapuram which over a period of time, became Mukundapuram.

When the emperor requested Indra to part with the LIngam, the king of Devas, played a trick to avoid giving the Lingam.  He created six identical lingams and asked the Maharaja to take one of them.  As Musukunda could not differentiate the six identical lingams made by Viswakarma, he requested for assistance from Ganesa. Vinayaka took the form of an insect ( some say bee and some say beetle, vandu) and circled around the genuine Lingam.  Musukunda picked it and Indra could not prevent him from taking the Lord to the earth.

Like Pillayarpatti, the main shrine is occupied by the Lingam and He is called Thyagarajar.  However, importance is given to Shri Valampuri Vinayakar, who is housed in a separate shrine.  Like His counterpart in Pillayarpatti, here also His trunk is twisted to the right (Valanchuzhi in Tamil).  

When the construction was undertaken for this temple, a lot of other idols were un-earthed in and around this place- Lingam (Somanathar), Nandi, Murugan, Brahma etc.  It is either from the old temple in this place or maybe from a long forgotten another Chozha period temple.  All these idols are installed in this temple.  

*ஆயுள் விருத்தி வேண்டி வழிபடப்படும் அற்புதக் கோயில்!*

திருவாரூரிலிருந்து தஞ்சை செல்லும் வழியில் சுமார் 13 கி.மீ. தொலைவில் குடவாசலுக்கு அருகே முகுந்தனூர் என்னும் தலத்தில் அருள்பாலிக்கிறார் ஸ்ரீ வலம்புரி விநாயகர். இஷ்வாஹு வம்சம்                          (ஸ்ரீ ராமபிரானின் வம்சம்) வம்சத்தை சேர்ந்த முசுகுந்த சக்கரவர்த்தியால் கட்டப்பட்டு வழிபாடு செய்யப்பட்ட கோயில் இது.  இக்கோயில் 1000 வருடங்களுக்கு முற்பட்டது என தல புராணம் கூறுகிறது.

முசுகுந்த சக்கரவர்த்தி இந்தத் தலத்தில் வலம்புரி விநாயகரை பிரதிஷ்டை செய்து வழிபட்டார்.  பிறகு  தியாகராஜரை (சிவபெருமானை) விண்ணுலகத்தில் இருந்து மண்ணுலகத்திற்கு வழிபாட்டிற்காக கொண்டு வர விரும்பினார். தியாகராஜரை அழைத்து வர மன்னன் தேவலோகத்திற்கு சென்றபோது, தேவர்களின் அரசனான தேவேந்திரன் இறைவனைப் பிரிய மறுத்தான். சக்கரவர்த்தியைக் குழப்பி மண்ணுலகத்திற்கே திருப்பியனுப்ப நினைத்து அங்கே இருந்த தியாகராஜரைப் போல அதே வடிவமைப்பில் ஏழு தியாகராஜர்களை உருவாக்கினான்.

முசுகுந்த சக்கரவர்த்தி செய்வதறியாமல் திகைத்துப் போக, அவருக்கு உதவ அவர் தினமும் வழிபடும் வலம்புரி விநாயகப் பெருமான் ஒரு வண்டு வடிவில் அசல்  தியாகராஜர் சிலையைச் சுற்றி வட்டமிட்டு அடையாளம் காட்டினார். சக்கரவர்த்தியும் மிகுந்த சந்தோஷத்தோடு தியாகராஜரை  கொண்டு வந்து முசுகுந்த புரத்தில் இருந்த வலம்புரி விநாயகர் ஆலயத்தில் பிரதிஷ்டை செய்தார்.  இதுவே தல புராணத்தில் கூறப்படும் புராண வரலாறு.

இந்தப் பகுதியில் விநாயகருக்குக் கோயில் கட்ட முற்பட்டபோது பூமிக்கடி யிலிருந்து பிரம்மா, பாலமுருகன், லிங்கம், நந்தி உள்ளிட்ட விக்கிரகங்கள் கண்டெடுக்கப் பட்டு இங்கே பிரதிஷ்டை செய்யப் பட்டுள்ளன என்பது குறிப்பிடத் தக்கது.

பிள்ளையார்பட்டியில் இருப்பது போன்று சிவபெருமானின் வடிவமைப்பில் கருவறை உள்ளது. வலம்புரி விநாயகப் பெருமான் தனிச் சன்னிதியில் இருந்து அருள்பாலிக்கிறார்.  இங்கு மூலவர் மற்றும் உத்ஸவர் இரண்டுமே வலம்புரி விநாயகர்தான். கோயிலின் கிழக்கே நுழைவு வாயிலின் எதிரில் தல விருட்சங் களான அரசு, வேம்பு இரண்டுமே உள்ளன.

தொடக்கத்தில் முசுகுந்த சக்கரவர்த்தியின் பெயராலேயே முசுகுந்தனூர் என்றழைக்கப்பட இந்தத் தலம் காலப்போக்கில் பெயர் மருவி முகுந்தனூர் என்று அழைக்கப்படலா யிற்று. முசுகுந்த சக்கரவர்த்தி வழிபட்ட விநாயகர் கோயில் என்பதால், சுற்றுவட்டார மக்கள் பயபக்தியுடன் இங்கே வழிபாடு நடத்தி வருகின்றனர்.

பக்தர்கள் முக்கியமாக, ஆயுள் விருத்திக்காக வேண்டிக்கொண்டு வந்து வழிபடும் தலமாக இந்த வலம்புரி விநாயகர் கோயில் பிரசித்தி பெற்று விளங்குகிறது. சங்கடஹர சதுர்த்தியில் சகல விதமான தோஷம் நீங்கவும் சிறப்பு வழிபாடுகள் செய்து  வழிபடும் தலமாகவும் இத்தலம் பிரசித்தி பெற்று விளங்குகிறது.

ஒவ்வொரு வருடமும் விநாயகர் சதுர்த்தி, தமிழ் வருடப் பிறப்பு, பிரதி மாதம் சங்கடஹர சதுர்த்தி, பிரதோஷம் ஆகிய விசேஷங்கள் இங்கே மிகச் சிறப்பாக அனுசரிக்கப் படுகின்றன.
