The Temple is also called as Dharmapureeswarar Temple. Now the place is known as Koilpatthu. Presiding Deity is called as Yazhmurinathar / Dharmapureeswarar. Mother is called as Madhuraminnammai / Thenamirthavalli / Abhayambikai. This is the birth place of Saint Thiru Neelakanda Yazhpanar’s mother. Yazhpanar is one of the 63 Nayanmars. It is one of the shrines of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams - Shiva Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Thevaram poems by Tamil Saivite Nayanmar Tirugnanasambandar.
