Temple info -3510 கோயில் தகவல்-3510 Somanadheeswarar Temple, Thelur, Ariyalur Taluk & District  Thelur is a small hamlet situated one kilometer down a minor road branching northward, located just before V. Kaikatti on the Ariyalur–Jayankondam highway. During the Chola era, this village was known as 'Thigaiyoliyur'. The road leading into the village traverses a large lake, effectively dividing it into two sections. The village itself is situated along the northern bank of this lake. The term "Thigai Oli" (meaning 'Dazzle' or 'Blinding Light') refers to an intensely bright, radiant, or shimmering light—one that is dazzling enough to momentarily blind the eye. Legend has it that the Moon God (Chandra) worshipped Lord Shiva at various sacred sites to seek deliverance from a curse; at such sites, the presiding deity (the Lingam) is typically revered by the name 'Somanathar'. Similarly, this temple site is where the Moon—having lost his luster a...
