Temple info -2093 கோயில் தகவல் -2093 Vilathotti Brahmapureeswarar Temple  :  Readers would be familiar with the various temples associated with Muruga with a specific aspect- Tiruchendur with Soora Samharam, Pazhani as a young mendicant (Andi), Swamimalai as a Guru etc.  Only after hearing about Vilathotti, I came to know that this was the place where He was reared as a small child in a cradle (Thottil in Tamil).  Due to this, this place came to be called Valar Thottil, which over a period of time became Valar Thotti and the present name, Vilathotti.  This place is around 23 Kms from both Mayiladuthurai (north via Pandanallur or Kadalangudi) or Vaitheeswarankoil (Via Manalmedu). There is a custom here that when a child is born, for the first 10 days, it is not put in a cradle as Bala Murugan was in cradle in this place; in stead, the child would be sleeping in a Thooli/yenai ( a cloth tied from a hook in a ceiling ). Those longing for a child pray to the B...
