 Temple info -536 கோயில் தகவல் -536 Naganathar koil/Nainar Koil Temple,Paramakudi Another temple near Ramanathapuram ( in between Ramanathapuram and Paramakudi and around 15 Kms from the latter place ) is the Shri Soundaranayaki ( Azhagiyanayaki ) Sametha Shri Naganatha Swamy Temple in Nainar Koil. Even for people from Southern Tamilnadu, this place is not known. It is also known as Thenmaruthur ( as the Sthala vruksham is Marutham ) or Dakshina Arjunam, Vasuki Theertham is just outside the temple.  The Lord is called Nagalinga Peruman and faces West in stead of East as seen in other temples. The reason is that He wanted to hear the music of one of his staunch devotees, Namathevar. . It is believed that the Lord appeared in the form of a snake below the Marutham tree. When Lord Muruga went for Surasamhara,he got Vel from Goddess Parvathi,his mother. It is in this kshetra he got the weapon Mazu. Murugan reached Melakodumalur after destroying Suran by the evening at the time of Suryasthaman.  The rishis who were praying requested Muruga to stay and bless them and he obliged.
