Even for people from Southern Tamilnadu, this place is not known. When Lord Muruga went for Surasamhara,he got Vel from Goddess Parvathi,his mother. It is in this kshetra he got the weapon Mazu. Murugan reached Melakodumalur after destroying Suran by the evening at the time of Suryasthaman.  The rishis who were praying requested Muruga to stay and bless them and he obliged.
