Karuppampulam South Kasi Viswanathar Temple, Vedaranyam Taluk, Nagapattinam District.
Starting from the main temple in Vedaranyam, travel 7 km west along the Vaimedu road. From there, turn south onto the Kadinelvayal road and proceed for 1 km. Then, turn west again onto the road leading to Karuppampulam South; the temple is located right by the roadside.
The temple faces east, with a temple tank situated in front. It appears to have undergone a *kumbhabhishekam* (consecration ceremony) recently. The temple is quite beautiful, featuring an impressive, large entrance gateway (*gopuram*), a surrounding compound wall, and shrines adorned in a vibrant, multi-colored (*panchavarna*) palette.
The presiding deity is Kasi Viswanathar, and the Goddess is Visalakshi.
The Lord is enshrined as a small *lingam* on a raised platform, and the Goddess is similarly positioned. The *garbhagriha* (sanctum sanctorum) is spacious and aesthetically pleasing. Two large *dvarapalas* (gate guardians) stand at the entrance to the sanctum. In front of the sanctum, there is a long, well-constructed concrete *mandapam* (hall) housing the *Nandi* and the *bali peedam* (altar). Instead of traditional *koshtas* (external niches), the outer walls of the sanctum feature integrated niches; Dakshinamurthy is placed on the southern side, and Durga on the northern side. The idol of Dakshinamurthy is particularly beautiful, reminiscent of the style of the Chola period.
Chandikeswarar is located in his customary position. In the southwest, there is a shrine for Vinayakar, and directly to the west, one for Murugan. Adjacent to the Murugan shrine, there is a depiction of Adisesha (the serpent deity) serving as a couch, upon which a small Vinayakar and a *naga* (serpent) are seated. In the northwest, there are small shrines for Mahalakshmi (facing east) and Saraswati (facing south).
In the northeast, a *mandapam* houses the Navagrahas, Bhairavar, Surya (the Sun God), and Chandra (the Moon God).
