KAYARAMBEDU TIRUVAAKEESWARAR TEMPLE

It is an unknown temple in a lesser-known hamlet called Kayarambedu near Guduvanchery in Tamil Nadu. Once a beautiful Gajaprshtha Vimana shrine, it is currently under renovation.

Known as Vaakeeswarar Temple, it is said to have been built during Rajaraja Chola I's time. The inscriptions are white-washed and not readable. I could not access the reference of inscriptions of the site from any of the records.



It is a small temple with an east-facing sanctum that enshrines Shiva Linga. The Goddess Karpagambal is also enshrined in a shrine that faces the same direction.

Ganesha, Dakshinamurti, Vishnu, Brahma and Durga are found as the Pancha Koshta Devas.



The Mukha mandapa must have been built around 200-300 years ago. The stucco image of a local saint named Manicka Naicker is placed here.

The sub-shrines in the prakara are built in the recent past. More structures are getting added as part of the renovation that is happening currently.

A big tank with a mandapa in the middle (called Neerazhi mandapam) is found in front of the temple.

கயராம்பேடு திருவாக்கீஸ்வரர் கோயில்தமிழ்நாட்டில் கூடுவாஞ்சேரிக்கு அருகிலுள்ள கயராம்பேடு எனும் சிறிய கிராமத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள, அதிகம் அறியப்படாத கோயில் இது. ஒரு காலத்தில் அழகான 'கஜபிருஷ்ட' (யானையின் பின்புறம் போன்ற வடிவம் கொண்ட) விமான அமைப்பைக் கொண்டிருந்த இக்கோயில், தற்போது புதுப்பிக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது.
'வாக்கீஸ்வரர் கோயில்' என்று அழைக்கப்படும் இது, முதலாம் ராஜராஜ சோழனின் காலத்தில் கட்டப்பட்டதாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது. இங்குள்ள கல்வெட்டுகள் மீது சுண்ணாம்பு பூசப்பட்டுள்ளதால், அவற்றை வாசிக்க இயலவில்லை. எந்தவொரு ஆவணத்திலிருந்தும் இக்கோயிலின் கல்வெட்டுகள் குறித்த தகவல்களை என்னால் பெற முடியவில்லை.
இது கிழக்கு நோக்கிய கருவறையைக் கொண்ட ஒரு சிறிய கோயில்; இதில் சிவலிங்கம் பிரதிஷ்டை செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. அதே திசையை நோக்கிய தனிச் சன்னதியில் அன்னை கற்பகாம்பாளும் எழுந்தருளியுள்ளார்.
விநாயகர், தட்சிணாமூர்த்தி, விஷ்ணு, பிரம்மா மற்றும் துர்கை ஆகியோர் 'பஞ்ச கோஷ்ட' தெய்வங்களாக (கருவறையைச் சுற்றியுள்ள வெளிப்புறச் சுவரில் உள்ள தெய்வங்கள்) இங்கு அமைந்துள்ளனர்.
இதன் முக மண்டபம் சுமார் 200-300 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு கட்டப்பட்டிருக்க வேண்டும். இங்கு மாணிக்க நாயக்கர் என்ற உள்ளூர் பெரியவரின் சுதைச் சிற்பம் ஒன்று வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
கோயில் பிரகாரத்தில் உள்ள உப சன்னதிகள் சமீப காலத்தில்தான் கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளன. தற்போது நடைபெற்று வரும் புதுப்பிப்புப் பணிகளின் ஒரு பகுதியாக மேலும் பல கட்டுமானங்கள் சேர்க்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றன.
கோயிலுக்கு முன்பாக, நடுவில் மண்டபத்துடன் (இது 'நீராழி மண்டபம்' என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது) கூடிய ஒரு பெரிய குளம் அமைந்துள்ளது.
இனிய பயணம் அமையட்டும்.
