An ancient and historical place named Gautameshwar Mahadev temple is located in the southern side of Shihor. This place has also been mentioned in Skand Puran. Maharaja Bhavsinhji of Bhavnagar restored this temple in 1989. Gautam Rishi has pleased God by doing penance of Mahadev here, Gautameshwar Mahadev It came. After Gautam Rishi cursed his wife, during his visit to India, came to this place with his disciples. Here Killol Kazri was together with snake, peacock, lion and mirug.

ஷிஹோர் நகரின் தெற்குப் பகுதியில் கௌதமேஷ்வர் மகாதேவ் கோயில் என்ற பழமையான மற்றும் வரலாற்றுச் சிறப்புமிக்க தலம் அமைந்துள்ளது. இத்தலம் ஸ்கந்த புராணத்திலும் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. பவநகரின் மகாராஜா பவ்சிங்ஜி 1989-ல் இக்கோயிலைப் புதுப்பித்தார். இங்கு கௌதம ரிஷி மகாதேவரை நோக்கித் தவம் செய்து இறைவனை மகிழ்வித்ததால், இத்தலம் 'கௌதமேஷ்வர் மகாதேவ்' என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. தனது மனைவியைச் சபித்த பிறகு, இந்தியப் பயணத்தின் ஒரு பகுதியாக கௌதம ரிஷி தனது சீடர்களுடன் இங்கு வந்தார். இங்கு பாம்பு, மயில், சிங்கம் மற்றும் பிற விலங்குகள் ஒன்றோடொன்று இணக்கமாக (கில்லோல் கஸ்ரி) வாழ்ந்து வந்தன.

கௌதம ரிஷி அதைத் தொட்டவுடன், வானிலிருந்து ஒரு குரல் ஒலித்தது:

*"ஓ கௌதம ரிஷியே! நீர் கண்டெடுத்த இந்த சிவலிங்கம் எனது சோமநாதரின் ஒரு பகுதியாகும். நீர் இங்கேயே அவருக்குப் போதுமான அளவு பூஜைகளைச் செய்யலாம். ஆனால், நீர் எனது (சோமநாதரின்) நேரடி தரிசனத்தைப் பெற விரும்பினால், சோமநாதர் ஆலயத்திற்குச் செல்ல வேண்டும்."*

இந்த சிவலிங்கத்தைக் கண்ட மகிழ்ச்சியில் கௌதம ரிஷி அதை வழிபடத் தொடங்கினார். அந்த அசரீரிக்குப் பிறகு, ஒவ்வொரு சிவராத்திரியன்றும் மக்கள் கௌதம ரிஷியின் இந்தத் தலத்திற்கு வந்து வழிபடுவதை வழக்கமாகக் கொண்டனர். கௌதம ரிஷியால் கண்டெடுக்கப்பட்ட ஒரே கல்லால் ஆன சிவலிங்கத்தைக் கொண்ட இக்கோயில், கௌதமேஷ்வர் மகாதேவ் மற்றும் வருண தேவரின் ஆலயமாகத் திகழ்கிறது; இங்கு 'கௌதம குண்ட்' என்ற பெயரில் புனித நீர்நிலையும் அமைந்துள்ளது. *
