MALLIKARJUNA SWAMY TEMPLE, KONDARANGI HILLS 

Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple, also referred to as “Kondarangi Hills”, is situated in Kondarangi Keeranur, Dindigul District, Oddanchatram Taluk, Tamilnadu, India – 624616. An astonishing rock-cut temple is situated on the top where we can receive pure divine sanction and blessings from Lord Shiva in the name of Malligarjuneswarar. The sculpture present in the temple is a Swayambhu Lingam. 

History

This temple has many histories. Few are listed below,

A place where Pancha Pandavas worshipped:

This temple is referred to as the place where the Pancha Pandavas went into exile and where Arjuna did penance. It is believed that if we do penance, chanting mantras from the place where Arjuna did penance on this glorious mountain, we will receive Shiva’s grace. It is believed that whoever does penance on this mountain, their life will change.

This place has been a prime location for meditation, often visited by Maharishis. Even today, it is said that this mountain is where many siddhas in arupa form engage in penance, granting grace to numerous devotees who come here.

Siddha who comes in a storm to worship:

Kagabhajendra and Ganapati, two saints, were reborn as crows due to their precociousness. They stayed on this mountain, worshiped Eason, and did penance.

For Kagabhajendra, there is a small cave temple at the top of the hill (which we cannot visit for now). It is also said that Kagabhajendra would come to the temple at sunset in the form of a small storm to worship Eason here. It is said that this storm starts from the foot of the hill, enters the temple, and lasts only for a few seconds.

Miraculous Healing Through Sacred Renovation: The Legend of Raja Jatavarman Sundarapandian’s Cure:

In the year 750 AD, Raja Jatavarman Sundarapandian was afflicted with leprosy which had not healed for a long time. Therefore, a pandit advised the raja to choose nine Shiva temples, renovate them, and perform kumbabhishekam. Our Mallkarujuna temple, Kondarangi Hills is one of those 9 temples. According to the pandit, leprosy is said to have been cured after performing the Kumbabhishekam. This story is also a matter of faith.

Cow Abhishekam miracle:

The cow used to climb up the hill daily and perform milk abhishekam by itself.

 

 

Talking with ancestors while meditating:

We have heard in a few YouTube videos that such communication is possible. Our answer is no. All such videos are myths. This place is for pure meditation.

Here, we appreciate and admire the beauty around us with wide-open eyes, without squinting. The breathtaking beauty of Oddanchatram and its surrounding areas is visible to us, as if the entire panorama is suspended in the air, with the clouds gently caressing our senses.

From the summit of Kondarangi Hill, one can marvel at the splendor of Palani Hill. Words fall short when attempting to describe the enchanting sight of a white carpet adorned with a lush green blanket. The morning hours offer the most optimal time to ascend this hill. This trek serves as an invaluable experience for those seeking to reconnect with nature and explore their spiritual side.

Worship Timings

Hill Temple:

The Kondarangi Hills hill top temple will open daily from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM, and the Pooja timings at the top hill are also scheduled within the same time frame (It takes an average of 2 hours to climb to the top of Kondarangi Hills).  The temple will be closed during other timings. Therefore, we request devotees to arrive on time between the mentioned timings to have a peaceful worship.

Note: During the Tamil month of Margazhi, the temple at the hilltop will open around 4 AM and close at the usual time of 11:30 AM. On every Sunday, Ammavasai, and Pournami, the temple is closed at 1.30 PM.

Bottom Hill Temple:

Pooja timings at bottom hill are between 06:00 and 13:00, and 16:00 to 18:00.

Pradhosam (Pooja timing from 16:00 to 18:00), Ammavasai, and Pournami days will have a special pooja at the bottom hill temple.

Note: Temples will be open 24 hours during festival times such as Chithirai Pournami and Maha Shivaratri.

Festivals

There are 3 major festivals celebrated,

Chithirai Pournami:

Chithirai Pournami is a very big festival celebrated. The temple will be open 24 hours at the top and bottom of the hill on this day. This festival is organized by six village people who donate money, vegetables, rice, lemons, milk, etc. On this occasion, more than one lakh people will be served with food.

Maha Shivaratri:

Maha Shivaratri is also a big festival celebrated. It is organized by devotees who treat Kondarangi Hills as their family god. The temple will be open 24 hours at the top and bottom of the hill on this day. On this occasion, more than 50,000 people will be served with food.

Karthikai Deepam:

On this day, a special deepam will be lit at the top of the hill, which we call ‘kambam.’ A special pooja will be performed at the top/bottom of the hill.

Pradhosam (Pooja timing from 16:00 to 18:00), Ammavasai, and Pournami days will have a special pooja at the bottom hill temple only.

LINGAM-SHAPED MOUNTAIN

The total height of Kondarangi Hill is 1165.86 meters (3825 Feet) high. It will take 2 hours to reach the top of the hill. Stairs have been cut to climb this mountain. The shape of this mountain looks like a lingam. Thus, like Thiruvannamalai, the hill itself is worshipped as a Shiva Lingam. This is a place where those who seek peace of mind can come and worship! The Pandavas built numerous caves here to worship Lord Shiva. Another temples located at the foothills is called Sri Getty Malleswarar and Sri Pramarambikai Temple. Palani Hill can be seen from this hill. It is believed that there is a mystical connection between Murugan, who resides on Palani Hill, and Mallikarjuna Swamy on Kondarangi Hills. Mynthan is said to be standing, looking at his father. It is also said that Eason and Shakti gave a vision to Balagan while standing on Palani Hill from here.

மல்லிகார்ஜுன சுவாமி கோயில், “கொண்டரங்கி மலை” என்றும் குறிப்பிடப்படுகிறது, இது திண்டுக்கல் மாவட்டம், ஒட்டன்சத்திரம் தாலுகா, இந்தியா – 624616 இல் உள்ள கொண்டரங்கி கீரனூரில் அமைந்துள்ளது. வியக்க வைக்கும் பாறையில் வெட்டப்பட்ட கோயில் உச்சியில் அமைந்துள்ளது. மலைக்கோவிலில் சுயம்பு லிங்கம் உள்ளது.

வரலாறு

இந்தக் கோயிலுக்குப் பல வரலாறுகள் உண்டு. சில கீழே பட்டியலிடப்பட்டுள்ளன,

பஞ்ச பாண்டவர்கள் வழிபட்ட தலம்:

பஞ்ச பாண்டவர்கள் வனவாசம் சென்ற இடமாகவும், அர்ஜுனன் தவம் செய்த இடமாகவும் இக்கோயில் குறிப்பிடப்படுகிறது. அர்ஜுனன் தவம் செய்த இத்தலத்தில் இருந்து மந்திரங்களை உச்சரித்து தவம் செய்தால் சிவனின் அருள் கிடைக்கும் என்பது நம்பிக்கை. இந்த மலையில் தவம் செய்பவர்களின் வாழ்க்கை மாறும் என்பது நம்பிக்கை.

மகரிஷிகள் அடிக்கடி வருகை தரும் இந்த இடம் தியானத்திற்கான முக்கிய இடமாக இருந்து வருகிறது. இன்றும், இந்த மலையில் பல சித்தர்கள் அரூபமாக தவம் செய்து, இங்கு வரும் எண்ணற்ற பக்தர்களுக்கு அருள் புரிவதாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது.

புயலில் வந்து வணங்கும் சித்தன்:

காகபஜேந்திரா மற்றும் கணபதி என்ற இரண்டு துறவிகள் தங்கள் முற்பிறவியால் மீண்டும் காகங்களாகப் பிறந்தனர். இம்மலையில் தங்கி ஈசனை வழிபட்டு தவம் செய்தனர்.

காகபஜேந்திரருக்கு, மலையின் உச்சியில் ஒரு சிறிய குகைக் கோயில் உள்ளது (தற்போதைக்கு நாம் அதைப் பார்க்க முடியாது). காகபஜேந்திரர் இங்குள்ள ஈசனை வணங்க சூரிய அஸ்தமனத்தில் சிறிய புயல் வடிவில் கோயிலுக்கு வருவார் என்றும் கூறப்படுகிறது. இந்த புயல் மலை அடிவாரத்தில் இருந்து தொடங்கி கோயிலுக்குள் நுழைந்து சில நொடிகள் மட்டுமே நீடிக்கும் என்று கூறப்படுகிறது.

புனித புனரமைப்பு மூலம் அற்புத சிகிச்சை: ராஜா ஜடாவர்மன் சுந்தரபாண்டியன் குணப்படுத்தலின் புராணக்கதை:

கி.பி.750ல், ராஜா ஜடாவர்மன் சுந்தரபாண்டியனுக்கு, நீண்ட நாட்களாக குணமாகாத தொழுநோய் ஏற்பட்டது. அதனால், ஒன்பது சிவன் கோவில்களைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்து, அவற்றைப் புதுப்பித்து, கும்பாபிஷேகம் நடத்தும்படி, ஒரு பண்டிதர் ராஜாவுக்கு அறிவுறுத்தினார். அதில் ஒன்றுதான் நமது மல்லீஸ்வரன் கோவில். பண்டிதர் சொல் படி, கும்பாபிஷேகம் செய்ததால், தொழுநோய் குணமடைந்ததாகவும் கூறப்படுகிறது.

பசு அபிஷேகம் அதிசயம்:

பசு தினமும் மலையில் ஏறி தானாக பால் அபிஷேகம் செய்து வந்தது.

 

 

 

 

தியானம் செய்யும் போது முன்னோர்களுடன் பேசுவது:

கொண்டரங்கி மலையின் உச்சியில் இருந்து பழனி மலையின் சிறப்பைக் கண்டு வியக்கலாம். பசுமையான போர்வையால் அலங்கரிக்கப்பட்ட ஒரு வெள்ளை கம்பளத்தின் மயக்கும் காட்சியை விவரிக்க முயற்சிக்கும்போது வார்த்தைகள் குறைகின்றன. இந்த மலையில் ஏறுவதற்கு காலை நேரம் மிகவும் உகந்த நேரத்தை வழங்குகிறது. இந்த மலையேற்றம் இயற்கையோடு மீண்டும் இணைவதற்கும் அவர்களின் ஆன்மீகப் பக்கத்தை ஆராயவும் விரும்புவோருக்கு விலைமதிப்பற்ற அனுபவமாக விளங்குகிறது.

சிறப்புகள்

மலைக்கோயில்:

கொண்டரங்கி மலை மலையேற்றம் தினமும் காலை 8:30 மணி முதல் 11:30 மணி வரை இருக்கும், மேலும் மலை உச்சியில் உள்ள பூஜை நேரங்களும் அதே நேரத்தில் திட்டமிடப்பட்டுள்ளது(கொண்டரங்கி மலையின் உச்சிக்கு ஏற சராசரியாக 2 மணிநேரம் ஆகும்). மற்ற நேரங்களில் கோவில் மூடப்படும். எனவே, பக்தர்கள் குறிப்பிட்ட நேரங்களுக்கு இடையே சரியான நேரத்தில் வந்து அமைதியான வழிபாட்டை மேற்கொள்ளுமாறு கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறோம்.

குறிப்பு: தமிழ் மாதமான மார்கழியின் போது, மலை உச்சியில் உள்ள கோவில் அதிகாலை 4 மணிக்கு திறக்கப்பட்டு, வழக்கமான நேரத்தில் 11:30 மணிக்கு மூடப்படும். ஒவ்வொரு ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமையும், கோவில் மதியம் 1:30 மணிக்கு மூடப்படும்.

கீழ் கோயில்:

கீழே மலையில் பூஜை நேரங்கள் 06:00 முதல் 13:00 வரையிலும், 16:00 முதல் 18:00 வரையிலும் இருக்கும்.

பிரதோஷம் (பூஜை நேரம் 16:00 முதல் 18:00 வரை), அமாவாசை மற்றும் பௌர்ணமி நாட்களில் கீழ்மலைக் கோவிலில் சிறப்பு பூஜை நடைபெறும்.

குறிப்பு: சித்திரை பௌர்ணமி மற்றும் மகா சிவராத்திரி போன்ற திருவிழாக் காலங்களில் கோயில்கள் 24 மணி நேரமும் திறந்திருக்கும்

திருவிழாக்கள்

3 முக்கிய திருவிழாக்கள் கொண்டாடப்படுகின்றன,

சித்திரை பௌர்ணமி:

சித்திரை பௌர்ணமி மிகப் பெரிய திருவிழாவாகக் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. இந்த நாளில் மலையின் உச்சியிலும், கீழும் 24 மணி நேரமும் கோயில் திறந்திருக்கும். ஆறு கிராம மக்கள் பணம், காய்கறிகள், அரிசி, எலுமிச்சை, பால் போன்றவற்றை நன்கொடையாக வழங்கும் இவ்விழாவில், ஒரு லட்சத்திற்கும் மேற்பட்ட மக்களுக்கு அன்னதானம் வழங்கப்படும்.

மகா சிவராத்திரி:

மகா சிவராத்திரியும் ஒரு பெரிய திருவிழாவாகக் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. கொண்டரங்கி மலையை தங்கள் குடும்பக் கடவுளாகக் கருதும் பக்தர்களால் இது ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்படும். இந்த நாளில் மலையின் உச்சியிலும், கீழும் 24 மணி நேரமும் கோயில் திறந்திருக்கும். இந்நிகழ்ச்சியில், 50,000க்கும் மேற்பட்டோருக்கு அன்னதானம் வழங்கப்படும்.

கார்த்திகை தீபம்:

இந்த நாளில், மலை உச்சியில் சிறப்பு தீபம் ஏற்றப்படும், அதை நாம் ‘கம்பம்’ என்று அழைக்கிறோம். மலையின் உச்சியில்/கீழே சிறப்பு பூஜை செய்யப்படும்.

பிரதோஷம் (பூஜை நேரம் 16:00 முதல் 18:00 வரை), அமாவாசை மற்றும் பௌர்ணமி நாட்களில் கீழ்மலைக் கோவிலில் மட்டும் சிறப்பு பூஜை நடைபெறும்.

லிங்க வடிவ மலை

கொண்டரங்கி மலையின் மொத்த உயரம் 1165.86 மீட்டர் (3825 அடி) உயரம். மலை உச்சியை அடைய 2 மணி நேரம் ஆகும். இந்த மலையில் ஏறுவதற்கு படிக்கட்டுகள் வெட்டப்பட்டுள்ளன. இந்த மலையின் வடிவம் லிங்கம் போல் காட்சியளிக்கிறது. இதனால் திருவண்ணாமலையைப் போன்று மலையே சிவலிங்கமாக வழிபடப்படுகிறது.

மன அமைதி வேண்டுவோர் வந்து வழிபடும் தலம் இது! பாண்டவர்கள் இங்கு சிவபெருமானை வழிபடுவதற்காக ஏராளமான குகைகளை உருவாக்கியுள்ளனர்.

மலையடிவாரத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள மற்றொரு கோவில் ஸ்ரீ கெட்டி மல்லேஸ்வரர் மற்றும் ஸ்ரீ பிரமராம்பிகை கோவில்.

இந்த மலையிலிருந்து பழனி மலையைக் காணலாம். பழனி மலையில் வசிக்கும் முருகனுக்கும், கொண்டரங்கி மலையில் உள்ள மல்லிகார்ஜுன சுவாமிக்கும் மர்ம தொடர்பு இருப்பதாக நம்பப்படுகிறது. மைந்தன் தன் தந்தையைப் பார்த்துக்கொண்டு நிற்பதாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது. இங்கிருந்து பழனி மலையில் நின்றபடியே ஈசனும் சக்தியும் பாலகனுக்கு தரிசனம் கொடுத்ததாகவும் ஐதீகம்.
