Thiruvadhigai Ranganathar Temple

Thiruvadhigai Ranganathar Temple: Thiruvadhigai also hosts a beautiful temple for Sri Ranganayaki sametha Shri Ranganathar. This temple is hardly ½ km from Saranarayana Perumal Temple. However it is not as well known as the latter and the size of the temple is also smaller. The temple is open from 7 to 11 am and from 5 to 8.30 pm. Apart from Kedilam (Garuda Nadhi), Pinakini (Pennar river) is also theertham for this temple.

The sthala puranam shows the extent to which a king had respected the wishes of his beloved. Once this area was having a king known as Adhikapuri King. He wanted to marry the daughter of Chozha King, Pallavarayan. This lady was a staunch devotee of the Thayar and Swamy of Sri Rangam and being a resident of Tiruchirapalli, she would not miss darshan even on a single day. Hence she was reluctant to marry the Adhikapuri king and move out of her place.

Though Saranarayana Perumal temple was there in Thiruvadhigai, there was no shrine of Ranganathar there nor was Ranganayaki’s. Hence the Thiruvathigai king assured the princess that he would specially construct a Ranganathar temple so that she would not miss out her daily darshan. Accordingly he constructed this temple for Ranganayaki Thayar and Ranganathar and fulfilled his promise. He had also very wisely chosen the location for this temple. This temple is situated in between the two rivers, similar to the location of Sri Rangam temple between Kaveri and Kollidam. Later, this temple came under the control of Ranganatha Palayakarar.

Lord Ranganathar is in the reclining position in the main shrine. He is around 12 feet in length. Brahma has come out of His Nabhi (navel). Sridevi and Bhudevi Thayars are also with Him. The Utsavar in this temple is Shri Azhagiya Manavalan. Ranganayaki Thayar ( Adigavalli Thayar) is a tall idol of 8 feet height. She is in sitting posture. Even Andal’s idol is 6 feet in height and She faces the Lord’s shrine in standing posture. There is a shrine for Sri Rama with Seetha, Lashmana and Hanuman. He gives darshan as Kothandaraman with His bow. Separate shrines are there for Chakrathazhwar and Garudazhwar. Special poojas are offered in this temple on Revathi star days. திருவதிகையில் ஒரு ஸ்ரீரங்கம்

மனதைக் கவர்ந்த இளவரசியை மணம் முடிப்பதற்காக ஸ்ரீரங்கம் அரங்கநாத சுவாமியைப் போன்று சிலை வடித்து திருமாலுக்கு ஒரு இளவரசன் கோயில் கட்டிய இடம்தான் திருவதிகை. கடலூர் மாவட்டம் பண்ருட்டி அருகே உள்ளது திருவதிகை. முன்னொரு காலத்தில் இந்தப் பகுதி குறும்பர்கள் என்னும் குறுநில மன்னர்களின் ஆளுமையில் இருந்தது. திருவதிகையில் கெடில நதிக்கரையின் தென் கரையில் குறும்பர்களின் கோட்டை இருந்தது.

ஸ்ரீரங்கம் அரங்கநாதப் பெருமாள் மீது பக்தி கொண்டிருந்த குறும்ப இளவரசன் ஒருவன் அரங்கனை தரிசிக்க அடிக்கடி ஸ்ரீரங்கம் செல்வதை வழக்கமாக வைத்திருந்தான். அப்படிச் சென்று வந்து கொண்டிருந்த சமயத்தில் ஸ்ரீரங்கத்தை ஆண்ட குறுநில மன்னனின் மகளை அரங்கநாதர் சந்நிதியில் சந்திக்கிறான். அவளது பேரழகில் தன்னைப் பறிகொடுத்தவன் அவளை மணக்க விரும்புவதாகத் தனது விருப்பத்தை வெளிப்படுத்தினான். குறும்ப இளவரசனை விடவும் அரங்கநாதர் மீது அதீத பக்தி கொண்டிருந்த அவளோ, “தினமும் அரங்கநாதர் திருவடியை பார்க்காமல் என்னால் இருக்க முடியாது. நான் உங்களை மணம் முடித்தால் அரங்கனுக்கு சேவை செய்ய முடியாமல் போய்விடும்.’’ என்று சொல்லி திரு மணத்திற்கு சம்மதிக்க மறுத்தாள்.

இளவரசிக்கு அழைப்பு

இருந்தபோதும், அவளை மறக்க முடியாத இளவரசன், கைதேர்ந்த சிற்பிகளைக் கொண்டு ஸ்ரீரங்கம் அரங்கநாதரைப் போலவே ஒரு சிலையை நேர்த்தியாக வடித்தான். திருவதிகையில் கெடில நதியின் வடகரையில் ஒரு கோயிலைக் கட்டி அதில் அந்த அரங்கநாதர் சிலையை பிரதிஷ்டை செய்தான். கோயிலின் குடமுழுக்கு விழாவிற்கு ஸ்ரீரங்கம் இளவரசிக்கும் அழைப்பு அனுப்பினான்.

குறும்ப இளவரசனின் அழைப்பை ஏற்று குடமுழக்கு விழாவில் கலந்து கொண்ட இளவரசி, கோயிலில் ஸ்ரீரங்கம் அரங்கநாதரைப் போன்று சிலை பிரதிஷ்டை செய்யப்பட்டிருந்ததைப் பார்த்து வியந்தாள். தன் மீது இருந்த ஆழமான அன்பின் காரணமாக குறும்ப இளவரசன் ஸ்ரீரங்கம் அரங்கநாதரையே இங்கே வரவைத்துவிட்டான் என்று நினைத்தவள், அதற்குப் பிறகு திருவதிகையை விட்டுப் போக மனமில்லாமல் அங்கேயே தங்கிப் போனாள்.

அங்கேயே அரங்கனுக்கு சேவை செய்துகொண்டு குறும்ப இளவரசனையும் கரம்பிடித்தாள். கெடில நதிக்கரையின் அக்கரையில் இருந்த கோட்டையிலிருந்து இக்கரையிலுள்ள கோயிலுக்கு இளவரசி வந்து போக வசதியாக சுரங்கப்பாதையும் அமைத்துக் கொடுத்தான் குறும்ப இளவரசன். காலச்சக்கரம் சுழன்று குறும்பர்களின் கோட்டை இடிந்து மண் மேடாகிவிட்டது. ஆனால், அவர்களால் எழுப்பப்பட்ட ஸ்ரீரங்கநாதர் திருக்கோயில் அவர்களின் வரலாற்றைச் சொல்லிக் கொண்டு இன்னமும் கம்பீரமாய் நிற்கிறது.

அரங்கநாதர் வீற்றிருக்கும் திருக்கோயில்களில் நடைபெறும் முக்கியத் திருவிழாக்கள் அனைத்தும் இங்கேயும் விமரிசையாகக் கொண்டாடப்படுகின்றன. திருமலை திருப்பதிக்குச் செல்லமுடியாதவர்கள் திருவந்திபுரம் சென்று வந்தால் அதற்கான பலனை அடையலாம் என்பார்கள். அதுபோல, ஸ்ரீரங்கம் செல்ல முடியாதவர்கள் திருவதிகை சென்று வந்தால் ஸ்ரீரங்கம் அரங்கநாதரை தரிசித்ததற்கான பலா பலன்களை அடையலாம் என்ற நம்பிக்கை பண்ருட்டி பகுதியில் உள்ளது.
