Mythology

Arsunan's great grandson King Janamejaya was conducting a velvi when one of the anthanas fell and died. Due to this, Janamejaya suffered Brahmahatti Dosam. It is said that Narasimha built five temples to remove this dosha, one of which is this temple.

Temple structure

The temple, which was built at that time with only the sanctum sanctorum, was later expanded. The temple has a three-tiered rajagopuram. If you enter beyond Rasa Gopuram, the idols of Hayagreeswarar and Veera Anjaneyar are erected. There is a small sannidhi for Garudalwar in front of the moolavar. Then the temple is situated as Mahamandapam and Arthamandapam sanctum sanctorum. Narasimha is shown meekly holding Mahalakshmi on his lap in the sanctum sanctorum. In the Sathya Narayan Mandapam in the temple complex, Sathyanarayana is depicted in a standing golam along with Satyavathy and Ramadevi. There is a small sculpture of Sayana Narasimha in the prakaram. 

Special worship is conducted on Saturdays. Special worship is performed on Vaikundekadasi. Satyanarayana Pooja is performed on full moon day and Sudarsana homam on new moon day. Special worship is conducted on Puratasi Saturdays.

Varattanapally is located at the 10th km on the road from Krishnagiri to Kuppam.

அர்சுனனின் கொள்ளுப் பேரனான ஜனமேஜய மன்னன் ஒரு வேள்வி நடத்தும்போது அதில் அந்தணர் ஒருவர் தவறி விழுந்து இறந்துவிட்டார். இதனால் ஜனமேஜயருக்கு பிரம்மஹத்தி தோசம் பீடித்தது. இந்த தோசம் நீங்கவேண்டி ஐந்து நரசிம்மர் கோயில்களை அமைத்ததாகவும், அதில் ஒரு கோயில் இது எனப்படுகிறது.

கோயில் அமைப்பு

கருவறையை மட்டும் கொண்டதாக அக்காலத்தில் கட்டப்பட்டதாக இக்கோயில், பிற்காலத்தில் விரிவுபடுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. இக்கோயிலானது மூன்று நிலை இராசகோபுரத்துடன் அமைந்துள்ளது. இராச கோபுரத்தை தாண்டி நுழைந்தால் ஹயகிரீசுவரர், வீர ஆஞ்சனேயர் ஆகியோரின் சிலைகள் அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. மூலவருக்கு எதிரில் கருடாழ்வாருக்கு சிறிய சந்நிதி உள்ளது. இதையடுத்து மகாமண்டபம், அர்த்தமண்டபம் கருவறை என கோயில் அமைந்துள்ளது. கருவறையில் மகாலட்சுமியை மடியில் தாங்கியபடி நரசிம்மர் சாந்தமாக காட்சியளிக்கிறார். கோயில் வளாகத்தில் உள்ள சத்திய நாராயணர் மண்டபத்தில் சத்தியவதி, ரமாதேவி ஆகியோருடன் சத்தியநாராயணர் நின்ற கோலத்தில் காட்சியளிக்கிறார். பிரகாரத்தில் சிறிய சயன நரசிம்மரின் சிற்பம் உள்ளது.

வழிபாடு

சனிக்கிழமைகளில் சிறப்பு வழிபாடு நடத்தப்படுகிறது. வைகுண்டேகாதசியன்று சிறப்பு வழிபாடு நடத்தப்படுகிறது. பௌர்ணமியன்று சத்தியநாராயண பூசையும், அமாவாசையன்று சுதர்சன ஹோமமும் நடத்தப்படுகிறது. புரட்டாசி சனிக்கிழமைகளில் சிறப்பு வழிபாடு நடத்தப்படுகிறது.
