 * This town has the pride of being a healing place.  Even after the age of eight, a boy who could not speak properly, Vadakaleeswarar spoke kindly!  It is the belief of the devotees here that if one sees Kamakshi Ambal, all the doshas like marital dosha will be removed.*

*History:*

 * Temple of Pallavar period;  Elder Kanjimahaan has visited the village of Attur three times.  When he came here in 1938, he stayed at Vengaiyar's house in Agraharam and blessed everyone.  Then there was something searching on his face... Is there a temple here, in this town, what?  He asked.  When the monks of the monastery looked at the villagers, they said yes.  Let's go to that temple,  Periyawa got up suddenly and left quickly... the whole town gathered behind him.  Periyava was ecstatic when he saw the temple.  He went in, saying, "Wonderful...wonderful."  Even though the bushes and vines were spread all over, Mahaperiyava sat still in front of the Shiva shrine.  The one who was looking at Sivalinga Thirumeni was moved and said, "Ah, well...  Arrangements were immediately made to look at the Madathu sippandis saying that Swami and Ambal need new clothes.   After many years, he told that the Pradosha Pooja was going to take place.  That evening, he anointed Swami and Ambal with his hands.  Pradosha Puja was held specially.  The whole town was thrilled.*

*இந்த ஊர், நோய் தீர்க்கும் ஸ்தலம் என்ற பெருமை கொண்டது. எட்டு வயதைக் கடந்தும், சரியாப் பேச்சு வராத சிறுவன் ஒருத்தனுக்கு, வடகலீஸ்வரர் கருணையால பேச்சு வந்தது! காமாட்சி அம்பாளோ கடைக்கண் பார்வை பட்டாலே, திருமண தோஷம் முதலான எல்லா தோஷங்களும் நிவர்த்தியாகி விடும் என்பது இங்குள்ள பக்தர்களின் நம்பிக்கை.*

*தல வரலாறு:*

*பல்லவர் காலத்துக் கோயில்; ஆத்தூர் கிராமத்துக்கு மூன்று முறை விஜயம் செய்திருக்கிறார் காஞ்சிமகா பெரியவர். 1938 -ஆம் வருடம் இங்கு வந்தபோது, அக்ரஹாரத்தில் உள்ள வெங்கய்யர் வீட்டில் தங்கி, அனைவருக்கும் ஆசி வழங்கினார். அப்போது அவருடைய முகத்தில் ஏதோவொரு தேடல்... இங்கே, இந்த ஊர்ல சிவாலயம் இருக்கா, என்ன? என்று கேட்டாராம். மடத்து அன்பர்கள் ஊர்க்காரர்களைப் பார்க்க, அவர்கள் ஆமாம் என்றனர். அந்தக் கோயிலுக்குப் போகலாம், வாங்கோ ! என்று சட்டென்று எழுந்த பெரியவா, விறுவிறுவெனக் கிளம்பிச் செல்ல... மொத்த ஊரும் திரண்டு அவருக்குப் பின்னே சென்றது. கோயிலைப் பார்த்ததும் பரவசமானார் பெரியவா. அற்புதம்... அற்புதம் என்று சொல்லிக் கொண்டே, உள்ளே சென்றார். புதர் மண்டி, செடிகொடிகள் படர்ந்து காணப்பட்டாலும் அதையெல்லாம் பொருட்படுத்தவில்லை, மகாபெரியவா !சிவ சன்னதிக்கு எதிரில் அப்படியே அமர்ந்துவிட்டார். சிவலிங்கத் திருமேனியையே பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தவர், அடடே... என்று நெகிழ்ந்து போனார். சுவாமிக்கும் அம்பாளுக்கும் புது வஸ்திரம் வேணுமே... என்று மடத்துச் சிப்பந்திகளைப் பார்த்துச் சொல்ல... உடனே ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டது. இன்னிக்கிப் பிரதோஷம். ரொம்ப வருஷத்துக்குப் பிறகு, ஸ்வாமிக்குப் பிரதோஷ பூஜை நடக்கப் போறது என்று சுவாமி சொல்ல... பூமாலைகளும் வில்வ இலைகளும், பழங்களும் சர்க்கரைப் பொங்கலும் கொண்டு வந்து வைக்கப்பட்டன. அன்று மாலை, தன்னுடைய திருக்கரங்களால் சுவாமி மற்றும் அம்பாளுக்கு அபிஷேகங்கள் செய்தார். பிரதோஷ பூஜை சிறப்புற நடந்தது. மொத்த ஊரும் சிலிர்த்துப் போனது.*

*சென்னை விழுப்புரம் தேசிய நெடுஞ்சாலையில் உள்ளது மேல்மருவத்தூர். இங்கிருந்து சுமார் 9 கி.மீ. தொலைவில் உள்ளது தொழுப்பேடு. இந்த ஊரில் இருந்து சூணாம்பேடு எனும் ஊருக்குச் செல்லும் வழியில், சுமார் 3 கி.மீ. தொலைவில் உள்ளது ஆத்தூர் எனும் கிராமம்.*
