1. Temple History and Origin of the Name

This Vaishnavite temple gained prominence during the reign of King Parakrama Pandya of Tenkasi, the same era in which the Kasi Viswanathar Temple was constructed.

The deity is named 'Porundhinindra Perumal' because He appears to devotees in a posture of perfect harmony and union (*porundhi*) with His consorts.

When the Kasi Viswanathar Temple was built, this shrine stood out alongside the surrounding guardian deity shrines and other ancillary temples, symbolizing the unity between the Shaivite and Vaishnavite traditions.

2. Location and Architecture

The temple is beautifully situated along the banks of the Chitra River, near Yanaipalam (Aanaipalam) and Mela Masi Street—a key area in Tenkasi town.

The entrance features a beautiful, small *Vimana* (tower) adorned with sculpted figures of Lord Perumal with His consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi, as well as Hanuman and Garuda.

Upon entering the main gateway, one finds the *Bali Peedam* (sacrificial altar), the *Kodi Maram* (flagstaff), and the shrine of Garuda (Garudazhwar) facing the sanctum sanctorum of the presiding deity.

Brahmotsavam & Kumbabishekam

The *Brahmotsavam* festival, which spans ten days and begins with the flag-hoisting ceremony, is highly celebrated at this temple. These festivities are conducted with great grandeur during the Tamil months of *Vaikasi* or *Aani*. People from Tenkasi and the surrounding areas gather here in large numbers to worship on occasions such as Vaikunta Ekadashi and the Saturdays of the Purattasi month.

காசி விஸ்வநாதர் கோவில் கட்டப்பட்டபோது அதைச் சுற்றியுள்ள காவல் தெய்வங்கள் மற்றும் பிற பரிவார ஆலயங்களுடன், சைவ-வைணவ ஒற்றுமையை நிலைநாட்டும் வகையில் இந்தத் திருத்தலமும் சிறப்புடன் விளங்கியது.

 இக்கோவில் தென்காசி நகரின் முக்கியப் பகுதியான மேல மாசி வீதி, யானைப்பாலம் (ஆனைபாலம்) மற்றும் சித்ரா நதியின் கரையோரம் எழிலாக அமைந்துள்ளது.
