History

In the year 1680, when the Maharashtra king Venkoji Maharaja Chatrapati (1676–1688) of Tanjore was on a pilgrimage at Samayapuram, where there is a famous temple dedicated to Kali, Mariamman appeared to the King in his dream and told him -that she (the idol) was in a forest of Punna trees at a distance of about 3 miles from Tanjore. The King lost no time in rushing to the spot indicated to him and recovered the idol from the jungle.

A temple was constructed at the place and the idol installed and so the deity of this temple is known as Punnainallur Mariamman. It is said that the daughter of Tulaja Raja (1729–35) of Tanjore, who lost her eyesight in an illness, regained it on offering worship at this temple.

Originally the Amman was in the form of white-ant hill (Putru). The Great saint Sadhasiva Brammendra swamy shaped the white-ant hill (Putru) into a form of Mariamman and also installed a powerful Chakra.

The temple is maintained and administered by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu.

தஞ்சாவூர் புன்னைநல்லூர் மாரியம்மன் திருக்கோயில்! 

 சோழர்கள் தஞ்சையில் ஆட்சி செய்த போது எட்டு திசைகளிலும் அஷ்ட தேவி சக்திகளை ஆவாஹணம் செய்து வைத்தார்கள் அதில் தஞ்சைக்கு கீழ்புறம் காவல் தெய்வம் புன்னைநல்லூர் மாரியம்மன் !

தஞ்சை தேவஸ்தானத்தை சேர்ந்த 88 கோவிலில் இதுவும் ஒன்று.

     

புற்று வடிவில் காட்சி தருகிறார் அதனால் மூலவருக்கு அபிஷேகம் செய்வதில்லை. தைல காப்பு  ஐந்து வருடங்களுக்கு ஒரு முறை மட்டுமே ! தலவிருட்சமாக வேம்பு.

  

சதாசிவ பிரம்மேந்திரர் சுவாமிகளால் உருவாக்க புற்று அம்மன் தான் நாம் வழிபாடு செய்யும் அம்மன்.

   

அம்மை நோய் கண்டவர்  மட்டும் அல்ல   பல விதமான வியாதிகள் குணமாகும் ஸ்தலம் என்பதால் பக்தர்கள் கூட்டம்  அலை மோதும்.

             

கோடை காலத்தில் அம்மனுக்கு போட்டு உள்ள தங்க கலசத்தின் முகத்தில் வேர்வை துளி  துளிர்ப்பதை நாம் கண்ணால் காணலாம்.

                 

அம்மன் சன்னதியின் வலப்புறம் துர்க்கை அம்மனையும் வழிபாடு செய்யலாம்

           

விநாயகர் முருகன் காத்தவராயர் அய்யனார் பேச்சி அம்மன் லாட சன்னாசி மதுரை வீரன் சுவாமிகள் உண்டு.

        

மாவிளக்கு அக்னி சட்டி  வழிபாடு அதிகம் உண்டு. 

       

1727-1735 வரை தஞ்சையை ஆண்ட துளசி மகாராஜாவால் சிறிய கோவிலாக கட்டப் பட்டது. அதன் பின்னர் 1798-1832 வரை ஆண்ட இரண்டாம் சரபோஜி மன்னரால்  நர்த்தன மண்டபம்  முன் கோபுரம் பெரிய இரண்டாம் சுற்று பிராகாரம்  கட்டப் பட்டது.

சமயபுரம் மாரியம்மன் தான் இங்கும்  இருப்பதாக  நம்பப்படுகிறது

 சதாசிவ பிரம்மேந்திரர் சுவாமிகளால்   இங்கு யந்திரம்  பிரதிஷ்டை செய்யப்பட்டது.

             

ஆடி மூன்றாம் வெள்ளிக்கிழமை பூச்சொரிதல் நடைபெறும்   ஆடி கடை  ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை முத்து பல்லக்கு வீதியுலா. முத்து பல்லக்கு நீளம் 35  அடி அகலம் 12 அடி  உயரம் 55 அடி கொண்டது மிகவும் பிரசித்தி பெற்ற முத்து பல்லக்கு இங்கு மட்டுமே காண முடியும்!  தஞ்சை கீழவாசல்  திரு அழகர் சாமி அவர்களின் தலைமையில்  இருபது நபர்கள் எட்டு நாட்கள் பணி செய்து உருவாக்க படுகிறது

          

நான்கு சக்கர பட்டறை வைத்து 40 அடி நீள மரவாரி வைத்து மூங்கில் பிளாச்சுகளை  (சட்டம்)  கொண்டும் முத்து மணிகளால் அலங்கார பணி செய்து  அம்மன் பவனி வரும் அழகை காண  இரு கண்  போதாது ( வேறு வழி இல்லை கண் கடன்வாங்க முடியாது  அதனால் முடிந்த வரை  ஒவ்வொரு முத்து பல்லக்கு வீதியுலா நடை பெறும் போது பார்த்து கணக்கை நேர் செய்ய முடியும்) ஆவனி மாதம் தேரோட்டம்  புரட்டாசி மாதம் தெப்பம் 

        

தீர்த்தம் இரண்டு உண்டு கோவிலுக்குள் இருக்கும் வெல்லக் குளத்தில் பக்தர்கள்  உடலில் கட்டி  வந்தால் வெல்லக் குளத்தில் வெல்லம் போட்டு நீரில் கரைவது போல்  கட்டி கரைய வேண்டும் என்று வேண்டிக் கொண்டு வேண்டுதல்களை செய்வார்கள். 

  

தஞ்சை - திருவாரூர் நாகப்பட்டினம் வேளாங்கண்ணி போகும் வழியில் தான் ஆலயம் உள்ளது.

            

இந்த கோவிலில் இருந்து   வடதிசையில்  நடந்து செல்லும் தொலைவில் மிகவும் பிரசித்தி பெற்ற சாளக்கிராம கல்லால் ஆன கோதண்டராமர் கோவில் உள்ளது.புன்னை மரத்தை தலவிருட்சமாக கொண்ட ராமர் கோவில்  அழகான அமைதியான பெரிய கோவில்.
