Kuzhumur Shiva Temple, Sendurai Taluk, Ariyalur District

Kuzhumur - In ancient times, it was a place where the minor rulers of the Chola kingdom gathered to consult with the great Chola emperor, and it also served as a commercial center.

Before the Chola period, this region was a flourishing center of Buddhism. Many Buddha statues can be found in this area. A Buddha statue was discovered in Kuzhumur, but some people broke off its head and took it away.

This Kuzhumur is located 9 km from Sendurai in Ariyalur district, on the southern bank of the Anaivari stream, accessible via Vanjinapuram. Kuzhumur is situated on the banks of a large lake. As it was a town of merchants, it was very prosperous in ancient times.  Therefore, a Perumal temple and a Shiva temple were built in the center of the town during the Chola period, making it a spiritual center.

However, having fallen into disrepair over time, it was revived by divine grace and consecrated with a Kumbhabhishekam (consecration ceremony) last year. The Shiva temple stands opposite a beautiful pond. A three-tiered Rajagopuram (gateway tower) stands at the entrance, and the temple is surrounded by high compound walls. There is a small Ganesha shrine at the gateway. Opposite the gopuram is a Nandi mandapam with a small vimana (tower). Behind it is a beautifully carved balipeetam (altar).

The sanctum sanctorum, antarala (vestibule), ardha mandapam (half-hall), and mukha mandapam (front hall) are beautifully arranged. The vimana of the sanctum sanctorum is adorned with numerous sculptures that tell many stories. The yellow color shines like gold in the midday sun. Chola-era granite carvings always give a majestic appearance, and this temple exemplifies that. The deity stands majestically with a large lingam. On either side of the sanctum sanctorum entrance are granite dwarapalakas (guardian deities).

On one side are a large Ganesha and several Lingam deities. On the other side is Murugan, seated majestically on his peacock mount. In his two rear hands, he holds the six-faced spear (Vel) and the Vajrayudha. In temples, if the peacock's face is turned towards the left of Lord Murugan, it is called the Indra Peacock.

This is the form of Lord Murugan before the slaying of Surapadman, when Indra transformed into a peacock. The darshan of Lord Murugan with the peacock on his left is considered very powerful. I urge all visitors not to forget to have this darshan.

In the sanctum's niches, there is Ganesha in a standing posture, followed by Dakshinamurthy in a separate stone mandapam, then Lingodbhava at the back, and Brahma and Durga in the north.

Chandikeswara can be seen with beautiful matted locks.  There are sub-shrines for Ganesha and Murugan in the circumambulatory path. To the left of the main deity, in a separate temple facing east, the Goddess is also facing east. The sanctum has an antechamber and a conical-shaped mandapam at the entrance. At the entrance of the front mandapam, Ganesha and Murugan are present in niches.  Opposite the Goddess, Nandi is seated in a mandapam. A balipeetam (sacrificial altar) is located behind it.

In the northeast, there is a well and a Navagraha mandapam. A shrine for Bhairava, facing west, is located at the corner of the compound wall. A large Bael tree stands flourishing. Surya (the Sun God) is located in a shrine near the gopuram.

In this village, a large Perumal temple is also undergoing renovation. Since the priest resides in the village, it is convenient for the Lord, the villagers, and visiting devotees to have Darshan.

குழுமூர் - சோழ நாட்டின் சிற்றசர்கள் சோழ மாமன்னரோடு குழுமி ஆலோசனை செய்யும் இடமாகவும், வணிக நகராகவும் அக்காலத்தில் இருந்தது.  

சோழர்கள் காலத்தின் முன்னர் பௌத்த சமயம் தழித்து ஓங்கிய பகுதி.  இப்பகுதியில் பல புத்தர் சிலைகளை காணலாம். குழுமுரில் ஒரு புத்தர் சிலை கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டது,  சிலர்  அதன் தலையை உடைத்து எடுத்து சென்றுவிட்டனர். 

அரியலூர் மாவட்டம், செந்துறையின் வடக்கில் வஞ்சினபுரம் வழியாக சென்றால் 9 கிமி தூரத்தில் ஆனைவாரி ஓடையின்  தென் கரையில் உள்ளது. உள்ளது. இந்த குழுமூர். குழ்மூர் பெரிய ஏரிக்கரையின் கரையில் அமைந்துள்ளது. வணிகர்கள் ஊர் என்பதால் ஊர் அக்காலத்தில் நன்கு செழிப்புடன் விளங்கி உள்ளது. இதனால் ஊரின் மையத்தில் ஒரு பெருமாள் கோயில் ஒன்றும் சிவன் கோயில் ஒன்றும் சோழர்கள் காலத்தில் கட்டப்பட்டு ஆன்மிக நகராக இருந்துள்ளது. 

 ஆனால் காலப்போக்கில் பழுதடைந்து போய் இருந்த நிலையில் இறைவன் அருளால் மீண்டும் உயிர்ப்பிக்கப்பட்டு சென்ற ஆண்டில் குடமுழுக்கு கண்டுள்ளது. ஒரு அழகிய  குளத்தினை எதிரில் கொண்டு சிவாலயம் விளங்குகிறது. மூன்று நிலை ராஜகோபுரம் ஒன்று முகப்பில் நிற்க உயர்ந்த சுற்று மதில் சுவர்கள் சூழ கோயில் விளங்குகிறது.  கோபுர வாயிலில் சிறிய வினாயகர் சன்னதி உள்ளது. கோபுரத்தின் எதிரில் நந்தி மண்டபம் சிறிய விமானத்துடன் உள்ளது. அதன் பின்புரம் அழகிய வேலைப்பாடுகள் கொண்ட பலிபீடம் உள்ளது.

கருவறை, இடைநாழி, அர்த்தமண்டபம், முகமண்டபம் என அழகாக அமைந்துள்ளது கருவறை விமானம்  எண்ணற்ற கதைகள் சொல்லும் சுதைகள் கொண்டுவிளங்குகிறது. மஞ்சள் வர்ணம் மதிய வேளையில் தங்கமென பிரகாசம் காட்டுகிறது. சோழ நாட்டு கருங்கல் வேலைப்பாடுகள் எப்போதுமே ஒரு கம்பீரமான தோற்றத்தை தரும், அதனை இக்கோயிலும் மெய்ப்பிக்கிறது. இறைவன் பெரிய பாணத்துடன் கம்பீரமாக உள்ளார் கருவறை வாயிலில் இரு புறமும் கருங்கல் துவாரபாலகர்கள் உள்ளனர். 

ஒரு புறம் பெரிய விநாயகரும் சில லிங்க மூர்த்திகளும் உள்ளனர். மறுபுறம் இந்திர மயில் மீதமர்ந்த கம்பீரமான ஆளுமை தோற்றத்துடன் முருகன் உள்ளார். இவரது பின்னிரு கரங்களில் ஆறுமுக வேலும், வஜ்ராயுதமும் உள்ளன.    கோயில்களில் முருகப்பெருமானுக்கு இடது கைப்புறமாக மயிலின் முகம் திரும்பி இருந்தால், அது இந்திர மயில் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. 

சூரசம்ஹாரத்திற்கு முன் தேவேந்திரன் மயிலாக மாறிய வடிவம் இதுவாகும். இடது பக்கம் மயில் உள்ள முருகப்பெருமான் தரிசனம் மிகவும் சக்தி வாய்ந்ததாகக் கருதப்படுகிறது.  செல்வோர் மறக்காமல் தரிசனம் செய்ய வேண்டுகிறேன். 

கருவறை கோஷ்டங்களில் நின்ற கோலத்தில் விநாயகர், அடுத்து தக்ஷ்ணமூர்த்தி முன்னிழுக்கப்பட்ட ஒரு கருங்கல் மண்டபத்தில் விளங்குகிறார், பின்புறம் லிங்கோத்பவ மூர்த்தி, வடக்கில் பிரம்மன் துர்க்கை உள்ளனர். 

சண்டேசர் அழகிய ஜடாமுடியுடன் விளங்குவதை காணலாம். பிரகார சிற்றாலயங்களாக விநாயகர் முருகன் இருவருக்கும் சன்னதிகள் உள்ளன. இறைவனின் இடது புறம் கிழக்கு நோக்கிய தனி திருக்கோயிலில் அம்பிகை கிழக்கு நோக்கியபடி உள்ளார். கருவறை இடைநாழி, முகப்பில் கூம்பு வடிவமண்டபம் கொண்டு விளங்குகிறார். முகப்பு மண்டப வாயிலில் விநாயகரும் முருகனும் மாடங்களில் உள்ளனர். அம்பிகையின் நேர் எதிரில் நந்தி ஒரு மண்டபத்தில் வீற்றிருப்பதை பார்க்க முடிகிறது. பின்புறம் பலிபீடம் உள்ளது. 

வடகிழக்கில் ஒரு கிணறும் நவக்கிரக மண்டபமும் உள்ளது, மதில் சுவற்றின் மூலையில் மேற்கு நோக்கிய பைரவர் சன்னதி அமைந்துள்ளது. பெரிய வில்வமரம் ஒன்றும் செழிப்பாக உள்ளது. சூரியன் ஒரு சன்னதியில் கோபுரத்தினை ஒட்டி உள்ளார். 

இவ்வூரில் ஒரு பெரிய பெருமாள் கோயில் ஒன்றும் திருப்பணி காண்கிறது. அர்ச்சகர் இவ்வூரிலேயே உள்ளதால் எம்பெருமானுக்கும், ஊர் மக்களுக்கும் வெளியூர் பக்தர்களுக்கும் தரிசனம் செய்ய ஏதுவாக அமைந்துள்ளது.
