Lakshminarayana perumal temple,Vazudavur

The ancient idols of Lakshmi Sri Devi, Lakshmi Narayana Perumal, Bhoodevi, Andal, and Hanuman, worshipped by the Vijayanagara Emperor Desingu Raja of Valudavur, Villupuram, a thousand years ago.

These idols were unearthed from beneath the ground at the Valudavur fort mound in Villupuram in the month of Margazhi (December-January) of 1980. They were then installed in a temple in Valudavur village and are currently worshipped by the people of the surrounding villages.

Imagine how many Tamil kings would have stood before these idols, how many kings from neighboring regions would have come to worship them, how many rituals and ceremonies would have taken place, and how many small and large towns would have celebrated and spoken of their greatness and power.  It is a great blessing for us to stand before these idols today, which embody such historical glory.

It is believed by many people in the surrounding villages that all prayers offered at this temple are fulfilled.

Here (as seen in the photograph), the smiling face of Andal, the sacred thread on Perumal's chest, Perumal's nipples, and the ornaments worn around Perumal's neck are all the pinnacle of the grandeur of Tamil sculptural art.

These are exceptionally intricate and magnificent idols of our Tamil tradition, which should be seen and admired at least once by not only devotees but also history students, archaeologists, and sculptors.

1000 வருடங்களுக்கு முன்பு விழுப்புரம் வழுதாவூர் விஜயநகர பேரரசர் தேசிங்கு ராஜாவால் வழிபட்ட தொன்மை வாய்ந்த லட்சுமி ஶ்ரீ தேவி, லட்சுமி நாராயண பெருமாள், பூதேவி, ஆண்டாள், மற்றும் ஆஞ்சநேயர் சிலைகள் 

இச்சிலைகள் அனைத்தும் 1980 ஆம் ஆண்டு மார்கழி மாதம் விழுப்புரம் வழுதாவூர் கோட்டை மேடு பூமிக்கடியிலிருந்து கண்டெடுக்கப்பட்டு வழுதாவூர் கிராமத்திலுள்ள ஒரு திருக்கோயிலில் அமைக்கப்பட்டு சுற்று வட்டார கிராம மக்களால் அனைவராலும் தற்போது பூஜிக்கபட்டு வருகிறது 

இச்சிலைகள் முன் எத்துணை தமிழ் அரசர்கள் நின்றுயிருப்பர், எத்துணை அண்டை ஊர் அரசர்கள் வந்து வழிபட்டுயிருப்பர், எத்துணை பூஜை புனஸ்காரங்கள் நடந்தேறியிருக்கும், இதன் பெருமைகளை சக்திகளை எத்துணை சிற்றூர் பேரூர்கள் கொண்டாடபட்டிருக்கும், பேசப்பட்டுயிருக்கும், இத்துணை வரலாற்று புகழை உள்ளடக்கிய இது போன்ற சாமி சிலைகளின் முன் இன்று சென்று நாம் நிற்பதே நாம் அடையும் பெரும் பாக்கியம் 

இக்கோயிலில் வேண்டப்படும் அனைத்தும் அப்படியே நிறைவேறுவதாக சுற்றுவட்டார கிராம மக்கள் பலராலும் நம்பப்படுகிறது 

இங்கு (புகைப்படத்தில் காணலாம்) சிரித்த முகத்துடன் வடிவமைப்டிருக்கும் ஆண்டாள், பெருமாள் மார்பில் உள்ள பூநூல், பெருமாள் மார்பக காம்புகள், பெருமாள் கழுத்தில் அணிந்திருக்கும் ஆபரணம் போன்றவைகள் அனைத்தும் தமிழர் சிற்பக் கலை நுணக்கத்தின் பிரமாண்டங்களின் உச்சம்

ஆத்திகர்கள் மட்டுமல்லாது வரலாற்று மாணவர்கள், தொல்லியல் ஆய்வாளர்கள், மற்றும் சிற்பக் கலைஞர்கள் அனைவரும் ஒருமுறையாவது நேரில் சென்று பார்த்து சிலாய்க்க கூடிய மிக நுட்பக்கலை மிகுந்த அதாத்திய நமது தமிழ் பாரம்பரிய சாமி சிலைகள் இவைகள்

நேரம் கிடைக்கும் பட்சத்தில் ஒரு முறை சென்று வாருங்கள், அக்காலத்து நமது தமிழ் பண்டைய கலாச்சாரத்திற்க்கே சென்று வந்தது போல கம்பீரமாக உணர்வீர்கள்.
