Nandikeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Thuraiyur Town in Trichy District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Nandikeswarar and Mother is called as Sambath Gowri Amman. This temple had been renovated during 8^th - 14^th centuries.

Legends

It is said that Ayyanar, Pidari, Nagakanni, Indran, Thirumal, Venuvana Munivar, Parasara had prayed Lord Siva here. 

The Temple

Presiding Deity is called as Nandikeswarar. It is told that the Sundara Chozhan, named the Linga here as Nandikeswarar. Mother is called as Sambath Gowri Amman. The temple tank is called 'Nandhi Theertham. There are many life size exquisitely carved stone sculptures in the temple. There is a Nagakanni Amman statue enshrined in this temple. During all Fridays, during Raghukala (10.30 am to 12.00 Noon) Special poojas are conducted for this Goddess, to expiate the sin of Raghu – Kethu, delay in marriages etc. There is a beautiful centre Mandapam (Maiya Mandapam) in a dilapidated condition in the big irrigation tank nearby the temple. Vedanta Mahadesigar temple also lies here.

The Temple is located at about 200 meters from Paalakkarai Bus Stop, 2 Kms from Thuraiyur, 1 Km from Thuraiyur Bus Stand, 40 Kms from Perambalur, 35 Kms Samayapuram, 40 Kms from Srirangam and 47 Kms from Trichy. Nearest Railway Station is located at Trichy (51 Kms) and Nearest Airport is located at Trichy (52 Kms).

  தீர்த்தம் :   வழிபட்டோர்:நந்திதேவர், காமதேனு Sthala Puranamஇத்தலம் சம்பந்தர், அப்பர் வாக்கில் இடம்பெற்றுள்ள - வைப்புத் தலமாகும்.முற்காலத்தில் இவ்வூர் சிவலிங்கபுரம் என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டது. சிவபெருமான் திருமேனி வாகை மரத்தின் கீழ் அமைந்திருந்தது. வாகை மரத்தில் இருந்த தேன் கூட்டிலிருந்து தேன் அபிஷேகம் சிவபெருமானுக்கு நிகழ்ந்துகொண்டிருந்ததால் தேனூர் என்று அழைக்கப்படலாயிற்று என்பர்.இத்தலத்திற்கு "மதுவாபுரி" என்ற பெயரும் உண்டு.காமதேனு, பூலோகம் வந்து இத்தல இறைவனிடம் விமோசனம் கேட்டு வழிபாடு செய்தது. தினமும் தன்னுடைய பாலை சொரிந்து வழிபட்டதால் இத்தலம் ‘காமதேனூர்’ என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டதாகவும் ஒரு செய்தி சொல்லப்படுகிறது.இவ்வூரைச் சேர்ந்த வராகவி சொக்கலிங்கனார் தேனூர்ப் புராணம் இயற்றியுள்ளார். ஆனால் அது பிரசுரிக்கப்படவில்லை.வைப்புத்தலப் பாடல்கள் : சம்பந்தர் - ஆனூரா வுழிதருவான் (1-61-9)  அப்பர் - தந்தைதா யில்லாதாய் (6-41-9).Specialitiesசுவாமி - அழகான சிவலிங்கத் திருமேனி.சுவாமி சந்நிதிக்கு முன்புள்ள மண்டபத்தில் - மேற்புறம் - 'சரபப்பறவை'யின் அற்புதமான சிற்பம் உள்ளது.பாதாள லிங்கம் உள்ள ஆலயம். (பாதாள அறை பழையது. அதில் வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ள சிவலிங்கம் புதியது.)21 நாட்கள் கேதார கௌரி விரதம் இவ்வாலயத்தில் சிறப்பு.ஆலயம் 16ம் நூற்றாண்டில் துறையூர் ஜமீன்தாரால் விரிவாகக் கட்டப்பட்டது. ஜமீன்தார் மற்றும் அவர் மனைவியின் உருவங்கள் மகாமண்டபத்தில் உள்ளன.ஆலய கருவறை முன் மண்டப வெளிச்சுவரில் பழமையான கல்வெட்டுகள் காணப்படுகின்றன.ஆலய கருவறையின் வலதுபுறச் சுவரில் கி.பி. 17-ம் நூற்றாண்டினைச் சேர்ந்த கல்வெட்டு காணப்படுகிறது. இதில் கோவிலுக்கு துறையூரைச் சார்ந்த அடியார் ஒருவர் அளித்த தானம் குறிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.Contact Addressஅமைவிடம்
