There was a saint named Ananthamuni Swami in Rajamannargudi, one of his disciples, Meru Swami, had two disciples, Syamaraja and Sethu Swami. This Sethu Swami is also known as Sethubava Swami. 

When Pratapa Simman, who ruled Thanjavur from 1739 to 1763, was interested in spirituality, he went to Bhimaraja Swami in Thanjavur and asked him to bless him with the blessing of asceticism, he sent him to Sethubava Swami, who was his guru in Mannargudi, to seek his blessings. . Accordingly, the king went to Sethubava Swami and sought his blessings. 

Pratapsimhan built a monastery for his guru in Thanjavur, opposite his palace, and gave him gold and other things as a gift. He built an Anna Chatram in Mannargudi, a large pond called Arithra River, and a temple on the bank of the pond in the name of the guru. He also built a town called Sethubava Chatram on the east coast of Pattukottai. This is the story of the origin of Sethubava Chatram. 

When Sri Ramachandra Murthy went to Rameswaram in the Treta Yuga, he stayed in this town and bathed in the sea and worshipped his ancestors, which is why this town was named Sri Ramachandrapuram. In 1676, the guru of the Maratha king Shivaji Maharaja, Ramadasa Swamigal, stayed here and bathed in the sea before going to Rameswaram. Sethubhava Swamigal, the guru of Pratap Simha Maharaja, built a Nithya Anna Chatram and a temple for Anjaneyar in this town, and in 1750 he built a Shiva temple with a Linga brought from Kasi and consecrated it. 

Pratap Simha had donated twenty thousand acres of land to this temple and made arrangements for the distribution of food from the income generated from it. These lands are located in the villages of Sethubhavasatram, Umattanadu, Andikadu Marungapallam, Mannargudi, Vettattidal, Keezhayur Chettiyamoolai Keezhashanthanmangalam Annavasal. 

Realizing the greatness of this place, the great sage of Kanchi stayed here. By coming and worshiping here, one can get rid of the curse of fathers, fathers, gurus and ancestors and live with the blessings of the ancestors. 

This village is located 21 km south of Pattukottai, along the coast. 

The temple faces east and there is a large freshwater pond behind the temple.

The deity is a medium-sized Lingamurthy. His sanctum sanctorum is built of black stone and has a high vimana. In front of it is the Idanali Arthamandapam, the front hall. The south-facing Ambikai shrine is attached to it. Outside the front hall, there is the Nandi Mandapam and next to it is a tall flag tree. Dakshinamurthy is in the towers around the prakara. There is a front hall with lion-bearing pillars in the front. Only Durga is in the north. 

In the small temple of the prakara, there is Vinayagar Murugan. In the north-east, there is a Navagraha Mandapam. A small temple has also been built for Ayyappa. This may be recent, it is not clear who is in the south-facing chamber, adjacent to the wall. The west-facing chambers have Bhairava, Sun and Moon. 

The temple is not only special for its Theertham murti, but also for the feet of many saints, Maharajas and lakhs of Rameshwara pilgrims. The place where our feet set foot is Shiva's home.

ராஜமன்னார்குடியில்  அனந்தமௌனி சுவாமி என்றொரு மகான் இருந்தார், அவரது  சீடர்களில் ஒருவரான மேரு சுவாமிகளுக்கு சியாமராசர், சேது சுவாமிகள் ஆகிய இரு சீடர்கள் இருந்தனர். இந்த சேது சுவாமிகள் தான்  சேதுபாவா சுவாமிகள் என்றும் அழைக்கப்படுகின்றார். 

தஞ்சையை 1739 முதல் 1763 வரை ஆட்சி செய்த பிரதாப சிம்மன் ஆன்மீகத்தில் நாட்டம் கொண்டு, தஞ்சையில் இருந்த  பீமராஜ சுவாமிகளிடம் சென்று தனக்கு துறவறம் குறித்து அருளும்படி வேண்டியபோது அவர் உனக்கான குரு  மன்னார்குடியில் இருக்கும் சேதுபாவா சுவாமிகள் தான் அவரிடம்  சென்று ஆசி பெறக்  கூறி அனுப்பி வைக்கிறார். . அதன்படி மன்னர் சேதுபாவா சுவாமிகளிடம் சென்று ஆசி பெறுகிறார். 

பிரதாபசிம்மன் தன் குருவிற்கு தஞ்சாவூர் கீழராஜவீதியில், தன் அரண்மனைக்கு எதிரில் ஒரு மடம் கட்டிக்கொடுத்து குரு காணிக்கையாக பொன்னும், பொருளும் கொடுத்து கௌரவித்தார். சுவாமிகளின் பெயரில்  மன்னார்குடியில் ஓர் அன்ன சத்திரமும், அரித்ரா நதி என்னும் பெரிய குளமும் குளக்கரையில் கோயிலும் உருவாக்குகிறார்.  பட்டுக்கோட்டை கிழக்கில் கடற்கரை ஒட்டி  சேதுபாவா சத்திரம் என்னும் ஊரையும் உருவாக்குகிறார். இது தான் சேதுபாவாசத்திரம் உருவான கதை. 

த்ரேதா யுகத்தில்  ஸ்ரீ ராமச்சந்திர மூர்த்தி ராமேஸ்வரம் சென்ற போது இந்த ஊரில் தங்கி கடலில் நீராடி முன்னோர்களுக்கு வழிபாடு செய்ததால் இந்த ஊருக்கு ஸ்ரீ ராமசந்திரபுரம் என பெயர் விளங்கி வந்தது. 1676 ஆம் ஆண்டு மராட்டிய மன்னர் சிவாஜி மகராஜாவின் குரு ராமதாஸ சுவாமிகள் இங்கு தங்கி கடலில் நீராடி பின்னர் ராமேஸ்வரம் சென்றார். பிரதாப சிம்ம மகாராஜாவின் குருவாகிய சேதுபாவா சுவாமிகள் இந்த ஊரில் நித்ய அன்ன சத்திரமும் ஆஞ்சநேயருக்கு ஒரு ஆலயமும், காசியில் இருந்து கொணரப்பட்ட  லிங்கத்தை  வைத்து 1750ல் ஒரு சிவன்கோயில் கட்டி குடமுழுக்கு செய்தார். 

இக்கோயிலுக்கு பிரதாப சிம்மன் இருபதாயிரம் ஏக்கர் நிலங்கள் தானமாக கொடுத்து அதில் கிடைக்கும் வருவாயில் அன்னதானம் செய்ய வழிவகை செய்திருந்தார். சேதுபாவாசத்திரம், ஊமத்தநாடு, ஆண்டிக்காடு மருங்கப்பள்ளம், மன்னார்குடி, வேட்டைதிடல், கீழையூர் செட்டியமூலை கீழசாந்தான்மங்கலம்  அன்னவாசல் ஆகிய கிராமங்களில் இந்த நிலங்கள் உள்ளன. 

இத்தல பெருமை உணர்ந்து காஞ்சி மகா பெரியவர் இங்கு தங்கி சென்றுள்ளார். இங்கு வந்து வழிபடுவதன் மூலம் பித்ருசாபம் பிரேதசாபம் குருசாபம் நீங்கி முன்னோர்கள் ஆசியினை பெற்று வாழலாம்.

 பட்டுக்கோட்டையின் நேர் தெற்கில் 21 கிமி தொலைவில் கடற்கரையினை ஒட்டி இவ்வூர் உள்ளது. 

கிழக்கு நோக்கிய திருக்கோயில், கோயிலின் பின்புறம் நீளவாக்கில் உள்ள ஒரு பெரிய நன்னீர் குளம்  உள்ளது. 

 இறைவன் காசிவிஸ்வநாதர் இறைவி காசிவிசாலாட்சி 

 இறைவன் நடுத்தர அளவில் லிங்கமூர்த்தியாக உள்ளார். அவரது கருவறை கருங்கல் கொண்டு கட்டப்பட்டு உயர்ந்த விமானம் கொண்டுள்ளது. அதன்முன்னர் இடைநாழி அர்த்தமண்டபம் முகப்பு மண்டபம் உள்ளது. அதில் தெற்கு நோக்கிய அம்பிகை சன்னதி இணைகிறது. முகமண்டபத்தின் வெளியில் நந்தி மண்டபம் அடுத்து உயர்ந்த கொடிமரம் உள்ளது. பிரகார சுற்றில் கோஷ்டங்களில் தக்ஷ்ணமூர்த்தி உள்ளார்.  முகப்பில் சிம்ம தாங்கு தூண்கள் கொண்டு ஒரு முகப்பு மண்டபம் உள்ளது.  வடக்கில் துர்க்கை மட்டும் உள்ளார்.

 பிரகார சிற்றாலயத்தில் விநாயகர் முருகன் உள்ளனர். வடகிழக்கில் நவகிரக மண்டபம் உள்ளது. ஐயப்பனுக்கு ஒரு சிற்றாலயம் ஒன்றும் கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது.  இது சமீபத்தியதாக இருக்கலாம், மதில் சுவரை ஒட்டி, தெற்கு நோக்கி மாடத்தில் இருப்பது யாரென விளங்கவில்லை மேற்கு நோக்கிய மாடங்களில் பைரவர் சூரியன் சந்திரன் உள்ளனர். 

தலம் தீர்த்தம் மூர்த்தி சிறப்பு என்பது மட்டுமன்றி, ஸ்ரீ ராமச்சந்திர மூர்த்தி தொடங்கி பல மகான்கள், மகாராஜாக்கள் லட்சக்கணக்கான ராமேஸ்வர யாத்ரிகர்கள் பாதம் பட்ட மண். இதில் நம் காலடி பதிவதும் சிவானுக்ரஹம் தான்.
