Aadhi Saktheeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Thevasthana Gopurapuram Village in Virudhachalam Taluk in Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Aadhi Saktheeswarar and Mother is called as Aadhi Saktheeswari.
Legends
Nandi Parayanar:
It is said that Nandi Parayanar, a renowned Siddhar, performed penance in this village for several years. Local King paid a visit to this Sidhar in a grand procession. When the Siddhar opened his eyes all the people who accompanied the King and King himself went to Yogic state. Realizing his power, the king worshipped him immediately. As per Siddhar instruction, the local king built this Temple for the Linga worshipped by the Siddhar.
Sasivarnar:
As per legend, a brahmin named Sasivarnar became addicted to meat and alcohol. He was afflicted with skin disease due to the bad habits. He came to Siddhar Nandi Parayanar for relief. Siddhar advised him to take bath in the temple pond for relief. Sasivarnar did as per Siddhar instruction and got relief from the skin disease. He became his disciple and attained Mukthi at this Temple.
Aadhi Saktheeswaram:
It is believed that Uma Devi worshipped Lord Shiva in ancient times. Hence, the place came to be called as Aadhi Saktheeswaram.
Thevasthana Gopurapuram:
It is also believed that Nandi helped Mother Uma Devi in her worship of Lord Shiva. Hence, the place came to be called as Goparvatham. Later got corrupted to Gopurapuram. As the templeis under the control of Virudhachalam Vriddhagiriswarar Temple Thevasthanam, the village came to be called as Thevasthana Gopurapuram.
The Temple
This Temple is facing towards east with five tiered Rajagopuram. Nandi, Balipeedam and Dhwaja Sthambam can be found outside the temple in front of Rajagopuram facing the sanctum. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Maha Mandapam, Artha Mandapam and Sanctum. There is a small Nandi in Artha Mandapam facing the sanctum. The Sanctum is guarded by Dvarapalas. Presiding Deity is called as Aadhi Saktheeswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of tall Lingam.
Lord is a Swayambhu Moorthy. It is said that sun rays fall on top portion of the Lingam daily. It is believed that Lingam is growing daily. Vinayagar, Dakshinamoorthy, Lingodbhava, Brahma and Durga are the Koshta idols located around the sanctum walls. Sthala Vriksham is Ilandhai Tree. It is situated behind the sanctum. Stucco image of Kamadhenu can be found in a platform below the tree.
Mother is called as Aadhi Saktheeswari. She is housed in a separate east facing shrine. There is a mandapam attached to the wall running around the inner prakaram. Irattai Vinayagar Shrine can be found in the south west corner of this Mandapam. Shrines of Annamalaiyar with his consort Unnamulai Amman, Kasi Viswanathar with his consort Visalakshi, Lord Murugan with his consorts Valli & Devasena, Vishnu and Gaja Lakshmi can be found next to Irattai Vinayagar Shrine in this Mandapam.
There are also shrines for Bhairavar, Saneeswarar and Navagrahas can be seen in the temple premises. There is an east facing shrine of Nandi Parayanar in the inner prakaram. It is situated close to Ilandhai Tree. Samadhi of Sasivarnar is situated opposite to Nandi Parayanar Shrine. Both the shrines have Peedam over their Samadhi. There is a big pond with five wells on the northern side of the temple. This pond is provided with bathing Ghats.

Festivals
10 days Chithirai Brahmotsavam, Aani Thirumanjanam, Purattasi Arrow Festival, Aippasi Annabishekam, Karthigai Somavaram, Margazhi Arudhra Darisanam, Pournami, Pradosham and Amavasai are the festivals celebrated here.
Prayers
Devotees suffering from skin disease should take bath in the temple pond and worship Lord Shiva for relief.

கடலூர் கோபுராபுரத்தில் அமைந்த அருள்மிகு ஆதிசக்தீஸ்வரர் திருக்கோயில், சக்தியின் ஆட்சி சிறப்பாக வெளிப்படும் ஒரு புனித மற்றும் சக்திவாய்ந்த திருத்தலமாகும்.

அருள்மிகு ஆதிசக்தீஸ்வரர் திருக்கோயில், கோபுராபுரம், கடலூர் மாவட்டத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள ஒரு சக்தி மிக்க திருத்தலமாகும். இந்தக் கோயில் தொன்மையான வரலாறும், ஆன்மீக அதிசயங்களும் நிறைந்த இடமாக இருக்கிறது. "ஆதிசக்தி" என்ற பெயர் கூறுவது போலவே, இந்தக் கோயில் முதற்கடவுளாகிய பராசக்தியின் திருவருளை வழங்கும் முக்கிய புண்ணிய ஸ்தலமாகப் போற்றப்படுகிறது. இங்கு சிவபெருமானும், பார்வதியம்மையும் மகிழ்வுடன் எழுந்தருளியுள்ளார்கள். இந்தக் கோயிலின் அமைப்பு, அதன் சக்திவாய்ந்த இருப்பு மற்றும் வரலாற்றுப் பின்னணியால் பக்தர்கள் எண்ணற்றவர்கள் இந்தத் திருத்தலத்தை நோக்கி செல்கின்றனர்.
இந்தக் கோயிலின் மூலவர் “ஆதிசக்தீஸ்வரர்” என அழைக்கப்படுகிறார். இவர் சிவனின் சக்தி வடிவமாக கருதப்படுகிறார். இங்கு அம்மனார் “சாகம்பாரி தேவி” என்ற நாமத்தில் உள்ளார். சாகம்பாரி தேவி என்பவர் மூல சக்தியாகவும், உலகிற்கு உணவையும் பாதுகாப்பையும் வழங்கும் தாயாகவும் போற்றப்படுகிறார். இந்த அம்மன் சிலை மிகவும் அரிதாகக் காணப்படும் ஒரு வடிவமாக உள்ளதுடன், வலிமை மற்றும் கருணையின் அடையாளமாக பக்தர்களை காக்கிறார்.
கோயில் மிக அமைதியான சூழலில், இயற்கை அழகோடு கூடிய கிராமப்புறத்தில் அமைந்துள்ளது. இதனால் பக்தர்களுக்கு ஆன்மீக அடையாளமேற்பட்ட மனநிலை ஏற்படுகிறது. நிசப்தமாகக் கூடி வரும் காற்றும், நெருக்கமற்ற தெய்வீகப் பரப்பும், இந்தக் கோயிலுக்கு ஒரு சித்தாந்த அமைப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. இங்கு வரும் போது ஒருவர் தங்கள் சிந்தனைகளைத் தணித்து, உள்ளார்ந்த அமைதியோடு இறைவனை அணுக முடியும்.
இந்த கோயிலில் நடைபெறும் வழிபாடுகள் மிகவும் முறையாகவும், அந்தணர்களால் முழு பக்தியோடும் செய்யப்படுகின்றன. காலை மற்றும் மாலையில் நடைபெறும் பூஜைகளில் பக்தர்கள் பெருந்தொகையில் பங்கேற்கின்றனர். அன்றாட அபிஷேகங்களில் பால், விபூதி, சந்தனம், புஷ்பம் போன்றவை பயன்படுத்தப்படுகின்றன. சிறப்பு நாட்களில், பவுர்ணமி, அமாவாசை, நவராத்திரி, பங்குனி உத்திரம் போன்ற தேதிகளில் அம்மனுக்கு விசேஷ அலங்காரங்கள் செய்யப்படுவது வழக்கம்.
அருள்மிகு ஆதிசக்தீஸ்வரர் திருக்கோயில், பல பரிகாரங்களுக்கு ஏற்ற இடமாகவும் விளங்குகிறது. திருமண தடை, குழந்தை பாக்கியம், உடல் நலம், கல்வி, தொழில் வளர்ச்சி போன்ற பல பிரார்த்தனைகளுக்காக இங்கு பக்தர்கள் வந்து பூஜை செய்கின்றனர். சாகம்பாரி அம்மனுக்கு வெள்ளிக்கிழமைகளில் சிறப்பு ஆராதனைகள் செய்யப்படுகின்றன. பெண்கள் பெரிதும் வந்து தீப அர்ப்பணம் செய்வதும், தேவி பரம்பொருளாக தங்கள் குடும்பத்தை பாதுகாக்க வேண்டியும் வருவது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
இந்தக் கோயிலின் வரலாறு பழமையானதாகும். சோழர் கால கட்டடக் கலை, சிலைகள், தூண்கள் ஆகியவை இதன் தொன்மையைப் பறைசாற்றுகின்றன. கோயிலின் ராஜகோபுரம் மிகவும் உயரமாகவும், அழகாகவும் வடிவமைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. அதன் சிகரத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள கலசம் பக்தர்களின் பார்வைக்கு ஒரு தெய்வீகமாக தோன்றுகிறது. கோபுரத்தின் வரைபடங்கள், தீர்த்தங்களின் உருவங்கள், தேவதைகள்—all these intricacies reflect the excellence of Tamil temple architecture.
இந்தத் திருக்கோயிலின் சந்நிதிகள் அனைத்தும் சிறப்பாக வடிவமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. விநாயகர், முருகன், நவகிரகங்கள், சண்டிகேஸ்வரர், நந்தி ஆகியோர் தனித்தனியாக உள்ளனர். இதில் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது, பைரவர் சந்நிதி மிகவும் சக்திவாய்ந்ததாக கருதப்படுகிறது. இரவில் பூஜை செய்யப்பட்ட பின் பக்தர்கள் பைரவரை வணங்குவது வழக்கமாகும்.
சந்தனக் கலசம், லட்சார்ச்சனை, நவராத்திரி காலத்தில் இடம்பெறும் கொலு, செருப்புப் பூஜை போன்றவை இங்கு விசேஷ நிகழ்வுகளாக நடைபெறுகின்றன. நவராத்திரி நாட்களில் ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் அம்மன் ஒரு புதிய அலங்காரத்தில் பக்தர்களுக்கு அருள் புரிகிறார். அந்த நாட்களில் கோயில் முழுவதும் விளக்குகள், பூந்தொடர்கள், இசை இசைக்குழுக்கள், பஜனைகள் போன்றவை நிகழ்வதை காணலாம்.
கோபுராபுரம் திருத்தலம் என்பது பலருக்கும் அந்தரங்க ஆசைகளுக்கான நிறைவேற்ற இடமாக பார்க்கப்படுகிறது. நோய்கள் குணமாக, மன அமைதி பெற, வழிபாட்டுக்கு ஏற்ப சிறப்பான பரிகாரங்கள் செய்யும் இடமாக இது விளங்குகிறது. சமீபகாலங்களில் பல தரிசன அனுபவங்கள் பக்தர்களால் பகிரப்பட்டு வருகின்றன. சிலர் நீண்டகால நோயிலிருந்து மீண்டனர், சிலர் குழந்தைப் பாக்கியம் பெற்றனர், மற்றவர்கள் தொழிலில் உயர்வு கண்டனர். இவை அனைத்தும் அம்மனின் அருளின் சாட்சியாகக் கூறப்படுகின்றன.
பிரதோஷம், மஹா சிவராத்திரி, கார்த்திகை தீபம் ஆகிய முக்கிய நாள்களில் இங்கு மக்கள் கூட்டம் மிக அதிகமாக காணப்படுகிறது. அந்த நாட்களில் சாமிக்கு விசேஷ அபிஷேகம், பஜனை, தீபாராதனை நடைபெறுகிறது. இளம் தலைமுறையும் இங்கு ஆர்வமுடன் பங்கேற்று ஆன்மீக வழியில் தங்களை செலுத்தி வருகின்றனர்.
இக்கோயிலுக்கு வருகை தரும் பக்தர்கள் தங்களது பரிகாரங்களை நெய்வெளிக் கொள்கல்களில் எழுதுகிறார்கள். கொட்டையடி விளக்கு ஏற்றுவது, பசு நல் காணிக்கை, ஏழை குடும்பங்களுக்கு உணவளிப்பது போன்ற நற்பணிகள் இங்கு வழிபாட்டு பங்காகவே இருக்கின்றன. இவை பக்தியின் ஒரு புதிய அடையாளமாகவும் பார்க்கப்படுகின்றன.
இந்தக் கோயிலின் பெருமையை மேலும் பெருக்குவது அதன் சூழலியல் அமைப்பும் கூட. ஆற்றுப்பக்கம், மரவளர்கள், பசுமை சூழல் ஆகியவை மனதிற்கும் உடலுக்கும் அமைதி அளிக்கின்றன. இந்த இயற்கை அமைப்பின் மத்தியில் உள்ள ஒரு காட்சிப்பதிவாகவே கோயில் எழுந்திருக்கிறது.
பூஜை நேரங்களில் கோயிலில் வாசிக்கும் வேத மந்திரங்கள், தம்புரா ஓசை, கும்பின் இடிப்பு எல்லாம் இணைந்து ஒரு தெய்வீகத் திடலை உருவாக்குகிறது. அந்தச் சாமி தரிசனம் என்பது ஒருவரின் வாழ்க்கையை மாற்றக்கூடிய ஆழ்ந்த அனுபவமாகவே இருக்கிறது.
இவ்வாறு கோபுராபுரம் அருள்மிகு ஆதிசக்தீஸ்வரர் திருக்கோயில் என்பது ஆன்மீகத் தேடலுக்கு ஒரு நிரந்தர விடையளிக்கும் தெய்வீக புனிதத்தலமாக விளங்குகிறது. இங்கு ஒரு முறை வந்துவிட்டால், மீண்டும் மீண்டும் வர வேண்டிய விருப்பம் இயற்கையாகவே ஏற்படுகிறது. இறை அருளும், மன அமைதியும் வேண்டுபவர்களுக்கு இங்கு திருப்பயணம் செய்தல் நிச்சயமாக பலனளிக்கக்கூடியதாக இருக்கும்.
