Sadaiudayar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Sastha located at Pappankulam Village near Kallidaikurichi in Thirunelveli District of Tamilnadu. Lord Sadaiudayar, the presiding deity is the Kula Deivam (family deity) of a select set of Hindus mainly from Southern Tamilnadu. This temple is mainly patronized by the matrilinear descendants of the Ettu Pillai Kootthar (family of the 8 sons). The temple has a humble appearance and is called Kudusai, which in Tamil means "hut". The offerings to this temple are rice and coconut and no cooked offering is permitted.

The temple of Sri Porsadayachi and Sri Sadaiudayar Sastha is situated right in the middle of paddy fields. Mother is called as Porsadayachi aka Raja Rajeshwari. Women and girls are not allowed to enter into the temple. It is not a temple built according to the Agama Sastras. There is no flag mast or prakarams. No Utsavam is performed or festival celebrated but has a moving tale behind its origin. When a Brahmin was taking his daughter home for delivery, she gave birth to a child here helped by Sastha himself playing the role of a harijan midwife.

Sadavudayar is the 'Amsa' of Sastha. An interesting legend is associated with this temple. A Brahmin was passing through Pappankulam village along with his pregnant daughter. The girl got labour pain suddenly. The father found a hut nearby where a Dalit woman played midwife and the girl delivered a baby boy. It is believed that Shasta took the form of the woman and helped the girl. And hence the Sastha here is known as Sadavudayar. A temple was built in that place with the other deities like Chinna Madan, Periya Madan and Nalla Madan. The Brahmin thanked the God and offered raw rice and coconut which he was having with him at that time. 

Later, the girl gave birth to eight sons. All of them and their descendants became staunch devotees of Shasta and served him. They are being called as 'Ettu Pillai Koottaththaar" (Ettu pillai means eight sons). Sadavudayar had assured that the decedents of the family of that woman should worship him and he will take care of everyone in the family. Hence grand pooja celebrations will be performed in the Tamil Month of "Thai" in all Fridays. The pooja will start by 9.00 pm in the Thai month Fridays and will be performed continuously till next day morning 6.00 a.m.

In that time Abishekam and all other poojas will be performed to Sadavudayar, Chinna Madan, Periya Madan and Nalla Madan. "Villu Pattu" will be performed throughout the night narrating the story of the Sadavudayar. All the family members and the people from 7 villages including Kalakkad, Ambasamudram and Kallidaikurichi will participate in the pooja. This pooja will be performed in all Thai Fridays and in the daytime of Thai Fridays also.

The Temple

The temple is situated amidst paddy fields surrounded by hills in a picturesque village named Therku Pappankulam near Ambasamudram. The temple is not built based on Agama Sastra. Hence, it does not have tower, Bali peetha or flag staff. The Sanctum Santorum houses four deities: Raja Rajeshwari under the five hood snake; she is also called as Porsadayachi. Sadaiudayar Shasta in the form of Bala jadadhaari - a rare form to find him in the standing posture and with beard; he is holding a stick. Other two deities are Durga Parameswari and Kali. The entrance of the sanctorum has an idol of Lord Ganesha.

This temple can be accessed by auto from Kallidaikurichi, which is near Ambasamudram, about 1 hour drive from Thirunelveli. Kallidaikurichi is located on the Southern bank of the river Thamirabarani at about 12 Kms West of Cheranmahadevi, 8 Kms from Veeravanallur, 4 Kms from Ambasamudram, 43 kms from Thirunelveli, 210 Kms from Madurai and 147 Kms from Thiruvananthapuram. The temple is located very close to the bus stop. Nearest Railway Station is located at Ambasamudram. Nearest Airport is located at Madurai and Thiruvananthapuram.

திருநெல்வேலி மாவட்டம், கல்லிடைக்குறிச்சிக்கு அருகில் தெற்கு பாப்பன்குளம் கிராமத்தில் அமைதியான சூழலில் அமைந்துள்ள சுவாமி சதாவுடையார் கோயில், சாஸ்தாவுக்கு அர்ப்பணிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. கோயிலுக்குச் செல்லும் அடர்ந்த காடுகளும், அருகில் மலையுடன் கூடிய பசுமையான நெல் வயலும் இந்த சடாவுடையார் கோயிலுக்கு வருபவர்கள் அனைவரும் பார்க்க வேண்டிய ஒரு உண்மையான விருந்தாகும். ஸ்ரீ சுவாமி சதாவுடையார் கோயிலுக்கு வர விரும்பும் பக்தர்கள், இங்கு பிரார்த்தனை செய்வதற்கு முன் முதலில் பொட்டலடி மாதவாடி கோயிலுக்குச் செல்வது இங்கு வழக்கமான நடைமுறையாகும். இங்குள்ள சாஸ்தா சுவாமி சதாவுடையார் என்றும், தெய்வம் பொற்சடையாச்சி அல்லது ராஜராஜேஸ்வரி என்றும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. இந்தக் கோயில் ஆகம சாஸ்திரத்தின்படி கட்டப்படவில்லை. எனவே கோபுரம், பலி பீடம் அல்லது துவஜஸ்தம்பம் அல்லது கொடிக்கம்பம் இல்லை. சதாவுடையார் அல்லது சாஸ்தா பால ஜடாதாரி வடிவத்தில், நீண்ட தாடியுடன் சாய்ந்து கொள்ள ஒரு குச்சியுடன் நிற்கும் நிலையில் இருக்கிறார். கருவறையின் நுழைவாயிலில் விநாயகர் சிலை உள்ளது. பொதுவாக அனைத்து வெள்ளிக்கிழமைகளும், குறிப்பாக தை வெள்ளிக் கிழமைகளும் மிகவும் புனிதமானவை, மேலும் அந்த நேரங்களில் கோயில் இரவு முழுவதும் திறந்திருக்கும். கோயிலில் கடுமையான ஆடைக் கட்டுப்பாடு உள்ளது, மேலும் ஆண்கள் வேஷ்டி / வேஷ்டியுடன் மட்டுமே அனுமதிக்கப்படுகிறார்கள். பேன்ட், பனியன் மற்றும் சட்டைக்கு அனுமதி இல்லை. பெண்கள் கோயிலுக்குள் நுழைவதற்கு கண்டிப்பாக தடை விதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்தக் கோயில் எண்.26/160, வீரப்பபுரம் தெரு, கல்லிடைக்குறிச்சி - 627 416 இல் இயங்கும் சடையுடையார் சேவா அறக்கட்டளையால் நிர்வகிக்கப்படுகிறது.
