*Pathimalai Balamurugan Temple*

There are many famous hill temples of Lord Muruga in Tamil Nadu. The oldest temple in this regard is the Pathimalai Muruga Temple. Pathimalai, which is a part of the lush green Western Ghats, is located in the village of Kumittipathi in Coimbatore district.

Temple structure

The temple is located on a small hillock. There is a small decorative entrance at the foot of the hill. From there, you can reach the temple by climbing about 350 steps.

Lord Muruga is enshrined on the hillock as a sword-wielding warrior. The temple is built with mountain stones. The temple has only one shrine. Lord Muruga is shown in a standing position in the sanctum sanctorum. In front of him is a sacrifice altar and a peacock vehicle. Lord Ganesha is seated on the left side of the sanctum sanctorum and bestows blessings.

On the left side of the temple, Goddess Shakti is seen from a separate shrine. In front of her, a lion vehicle, planted sulams and a flag tree are visible. There is an inexhaustible well at the top of the hill. The water in this well is used to anoint the Lord.

Primitive humans

If you go a little further down from the hill where the temple is located, you will find very ancient mountain caves. There is much evidence that primitive humans lived here. The cave paintings here are believed to be about 4000 years old. When compared to this, it is said that this temple is also very ancient.

Researchers say that in ancient times, not only elephants were raised and trained in this area, but also an elephant market was held.

It is said that this mountain was used as a watchtower for warriors during the Chera-Chola wars and that this is the Murugan temple worshipped by the ancient Tamils.

Worship

Devotees say that visiting this temple, which is situated on a mountain surrounded by natural beauty, will bring peace of mind. They worship here to remove the impediment to marriage and to get a child. Devotees who have benefited say that by worshipping this Murugan, they will get a favorite job, a house of their own, etc.

Special pujas and worships are performed in the temple on days dedicated to Murugan such as Karthigai, Sashti, Thaipusam, and Panguni Utthiram. Also, every month, Amavasya and Pournami pujas are held, followed by annadanam.

There are two steps to reach this temple. One is a rough path carved into the mountain like the steps used to reach this temple in those days. The other is a footpath that has been constructed for the convenience of devotees, making it easy to climb.

The temple is open for devotees to have darshan from 9.30 am to 2 pm.

This Kumittipathi hill temple is located 20 kilometers away from Coimbatore on the way to Palakkad.

தமிழ்நாட்டில் முருகப்பெருமானுக்கு பல புகழ்பெற்ற மலைக்கோவில்கள் உள்ளன. அந்த வகையில் மிகவும் பழமை வாய்ந்த கோவில்தான் பதிமலை முருகன் கோவில். பசுமை நிறைந்த மேற்குத் தொடர்ச்சி மலையின் ஒரு அங்கமாக திகழும் பதிமலை, கோவை மாவட்டம் குமிட்டிபதி என்னும் கிராமத்தில் அமைந்துள்ளது.

கோவில் அமைப்பு

கோவில், சிறிய மலைக் குன்றின் மீது சிறிய அளவில் அமைந்துள்ளது. குன்றின் அடிவாரத்தில் சிறிய அலங்கார நுழைவுவாசல் உள்ளது. அங்கிருந்து சுமார் 350 படிகள் ஏறிச்சென்றால் கோவில அடையலாம்.

குன்றின் மீது முருகப்பெருமான் பாலதண்டாயுதபாணியாக அருள்பாலிக்கிறார். மலைக் கற்களைக் கொண்டு கோவில் அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஒரே ஒரு சன்னிதியை கொண்ட கோவில் கருவறையில் முருகப்பெருமான் நின்ற திருக்கோலத்தில் காட்சி தருகிறார். அவருக்கு எதிரே பலி பீடமும், மயில் வாகனமும் காட்சி தருகின்றன. கருவறை வாசலின் இடதுப்பக்கம் விநாயகப்பெருமான் வீற்றிருந்து அருள் வழங்குகின்றார்.

இக்கோவிலின் இடது பக்கத்தில் அன்னை சக்தி தேவி தனிச் சன்னிதியில் இருந்து அருள்பாலிக்கிறார். அவருக்கு எதிரே சிம்ம வாகனமும், நடப்பட்ட சூலங்களும், கொடி மரமும் காட்சி தருகின்றன. இக்குன்றின் மேற்பகுதியில் வற்றாத கிணறு ஒன்று அமையப்பெற்றுள்ளது. இந்தக் கிணற்றில் உள்ள நீரினால் சுவாமிக்கு அபிஷேகம் செய்யப்படுகிறது.

ஆதிகால மனிதர்கள்

கோவில் இருக்கும் மலைக்குன்றின் மேல் இருந்து சற்று கீழே வந்தால் மிகவும் பழமை வாய்ந்த மலைக் குகைகள் காணப்படுகின்றன. இங்கு ஆதிகால மனிதர்கள் வாழ்ந்ததற்கான பல சான்றுகள் உள்ளன. இங்குள்ள குகை ஓவியங்கள் சுமார் 4000 ஆண்டுகள் பழமையானது என்று கருதப்படுகிறது. இதனோடு ஒப்பிட்டுப் பார்க்கும்போது இந்த கோவிலும் மிகமிகப் பழமையானது என்றே கூறப்படுகிறது.

பழங்காலத்தில் இப்பகுதியில் யானை வளர்ப்பு மற்றும் பயிற்சிகள் அளிக்கப்பட்டதோடு மட்டுமில்லாமல் யானைச் சந்தையும் நடைபெற்றதாக ஆய்வாளர்கள் கூறுகின்றனர்.

சேர- சோழ போர்களின்போது இம்மலை போர் வீரர்களுக்கு கண்காணிப்பு கோபுரம் போல் பயன்பட்டதாகவும், ஆதித் தமிழர்கள் வழிபட்ட முருகன் கோவில் இது என்றும் கூறப்படுகிறது.

வழிபாடு

இயற்கை எழில் சூழ்ந்த மலை மீது அமைந்திருக்கும் இந்த திருக்கோவிலுக்கு வந்தாலே மன அமைதி கிடைக்கும் என்கிறார்கள் பக்தர்கள். திருமணத் தடை விலகவும், குழந்தை பாக்கியம் கிடைக்கவும் இங்கு வழிபாடு செய்கின்றனர். இந்த முருகப்பெருமானை வழிபட்டால் பிடித்தமான வேலை, சொந்த வீடு யோகம் போன்றவை கிட்டும் என்று பலன் பெற்ற பக்தர்கள் கூறுகிறார்கள்.

கோவிலில் முருகனுக்கு உரிய கார்த்திகை, சஷ்டி, தைப்பூசம், பங்குனி உத்திரம் போன்ற நாட்களில் சிறப்பு பூஜைகளும், வழிபாடுகளும் நடத்தப்படுகிறது. மேலும் ஒவ்வொரு மாதமும் அமாவாசை, பௌர்ணமி பூஜைகளும், அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து அன்னதானமும் நடைபெறுகிறது.

இக்கோவிலுக்குச் செல்ல இரண்டு படி வழிகள் உள்ளன. ஒன்று அந்தக் காலத்தில் இக்கோவிலுக்குச் செல்ல பயன்படுத்தப்பட்ட படிகள் போன்று மலையிலேயே செதுக்கப்பட்ட கரடு முரடான பாதை. மற்றொன்று தற்போது பக்தர்களின் வசதிக்காக, எளிதாக ஏறிச் செல்லக்கூடிய வகையில் அமைக்கப்பட்ட படிப்பாதையாகும்.

கோவில், காலை 9.30 மணி முதல் மதியம் 2 மணி வரை பக்தர்கள் தரிசனம் செய்வதற்காக திறந்து வைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும்.
