Velachery Aadhi Sivan Temple

The Adi Shiva Temple in Vilacheri, a Kallar state, was built for the Kallars during the Pandya period. The people of Melaurapanur Vellaithevar are a group of four members. They worship the Adi Shiva Temple in Vilacheri as their ancestral temple.

In Vilacheri, next to Thiruparankundram, there is an ancient Adi Shiva Temple that is centuries old and is spread over an area of ​​several acres with natural resources, peace and devotion. It is believed that Adi Shiva appears here as Swayambu and blesses the devotees. If it is a Shiva temple, then Nandeeswarar would have been seated there in front of the sanctum sanctorum. But the fact that Shiva has appeared without Nandeeswarar in this glorious temple is an additional highlight.

The four deities of Mela Urappanur and Vilacheri, along with the temple administration team, decided to conduct the Kumbabhishekam after 300 years in this temple, which has been worshipped for many generations, and to start the renovation work for it. Accordingly, a new 72-foot-high 5-tiered Rajagopuram has been built at the entrance of the big temple.

This gopuram has also been built with a main hall measuring 101 feet long and 51 feet wide. A small gopuram with a special hall measuring 67 feet long and 47 feet wide has been built in the small temple complex. The majestic appearance of these has created ecstasy among the devotees.

More than 500 people, including the four deities of Mela Urappanur and Vilacheri, and the temple administration team, wore yellow saffron clothes and tied bracelets on their hands and began a strict fast. A large number of devotees participated in the Muhurtakakal planting ceremony. 

The Mahakumbabhishekam was held on May 27, 2018, after 300 years, to mark the completion of the renovation work.

திருப்பரங்குன்றத்தை அடுத்த விளாச்சேரியில் பல ஏக்கர் பரப்பளவில் இயற்கை வளத்தோடு, அமைதியும் பக்தியும் நிலவும் பல நூற்றாண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பான பழமையான ஆதி சிவன் கோவில் உள்ளது. இங்கு ஆதிசிவன் சுயம்புவாக தோன்றி பக்தர்களுக்கு அருள்புரிந்து வருவதாக ஐதீகம். சிவன் கோவில் என்றாலே அங்கு கருவறைக்கு முன்பு நந்தீஸ்வரர் வீற்றிருப்பார். ஆனால் பெருமை வாய்ந்த இந்த திருத்தலத்தில் நந்தீஸ்வரர் இல்லாமல் சிவன் எழுந்தருளியிருப்பது கூடுதல் சிறப்பம்சமாகும்.

பல தலைமுறைகளாக வழிபட்டு வந்த இந்த கோவிலில் 300 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு பிறகு கும்பாபிஷேகம் நடத்துவது என்றும், அதற்கான திருப்பணி வேலைகளை தொடங்க மேல உரப்பனூர், விளாச்சேரி நான்கு தேவர்கள் வகையறாக்கள், திருப்பணி நிர்வாக குழுவினர் முடிவு செய்தனர். அதன்படி பெரிய கோவிலின் நுழைவு வாயிலில் 5 நிலைகள் கொண்ட 72 அடி உயர புதிய ராஜகோபுரம் கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது.

மேலும் 101 அடி நீளம், 51 அடி அகலம் கொண்ட பிரதான மண்டபத்துடன் இந்த கோபுரம் கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. சின்ன கோவில் வளாகத்தில் 67 அடி நீளம், 47 அடி அகலம் கொண்டு சிறப்பு மண்டபத்துடன் ஒரு சிறிய கோபுரம் கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. இவை கம்பீரமாக காட்சியளிப்பது, பக்தர்களிடையே பரவசத்தை ஏற்படுத்தி உள்ளது.

இதில் மேல உரப்பனூர், விளாச்சேரி நான்கு தேவர் வகையாறாக்கள், கோவில் திருப்பணி நிர்வாக குழுவினர் உள்பட 500-க்கும் மேற்பட்டோர் மஞ்சள் நிற காவி உடை அணிந்து கைகளில் காப்பு கட்டி கடும் விரதம் தொடங்கினர். முகூர்த்தக்கால் நடும் விழாவில் ஏராளமான பக்தர்கள் கலந்து கொண்டனர். 

திருப்பணி வேலைகள் நிறைவடைந்ததையொட்டி 300 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு பின்பு மே 27,  2018  மகாகும்பாபிஷேகம் நடைபெற்றது.
