Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east with a 5-tier Rajagopuram. Sri Santhavalliamman temple is on the left side of the Rajagopuram. A stucco image of a Shiva Lingam is on the top of a Mandapam in front of Rajagopuram. Vinayagar and Murugan are on the Rajagopuram first level. Veerabhadra and Nandi are in the koshtas of inside Rajagopuram. Stucco dwarapalakas are at the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum. Moolavar is on a round avudaiyar. In koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahma and Durgai.

In praharam, Suryan, Nalvar, Chandran, Nalvar, Navagrahas, Durgai Amman sannidhi, Vinayagar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Chandikeswarar, and Bairavar. Utsavars Somaskandar and Shivakami are in the ardha mandapam.

Durgai Amman is in a separate sannidhi facing east. Durgai is standing in a three-bangha posture.
Ambal is in a separate sannidhi in the ardha mandapam, facing south. Ambal is in a standing posture with abhaya varada hastam.
ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on an upanam and pada bandha adhistanam with jagathy, threepatta kumudam, and pattikai. The bhitti starts with vedikai. The pilasters are Brahma kantha pilasters with kalasam, kudam, lotus petals mandi, and pushpa pothyal. The prastaram consists of valapi and kapotam with nasi kudus. A two tier brick vimanam is the bhumi desam. Shiva, Dakshimurthy, Maha Vishnu, and Brahma are on the tala and greeva Kostas. The sigaram is of vesara style.
The mukha mandapam pillars have beautiful bas-reliefs of Nandi (in sitting posture), Kalinga Nardhanar, Shiva as Oorthuva Thandavar, Gandaberunda, Bairavar, etc.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It was said that the temple belongs to the 12th-13th century and the same was reconstructed during the 18th – 19th Century.
Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 29th June 2012.
LEGENDS
This Sri Kailasanathar temple is on the banks of the Palar River, where the river flows from south to north. Hence this temple is considered as a holy place equivalent to Kashi. Devotees can offer to this Shiva considering as Kashi Viswanathar.

Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on pradosham, Maha Shivaratri, Vinayagar Chaturthi, Fridays, etc.

The temple at village Ayyampettai is on the north side of Chengalpattu to Kanchipuram State Highway, 7 km from Walajabad bus stand, and 10 km from Kanchipuram.

இக்கோயில் 5 நிலை ராஜகோபுரத்துடன் கிழக்கு நோக்கி உள்ளது. ராஜகோபுரத்தின் இடதுபுறத்தில் ஸ்ரீ சாந்தவல்லியம்மன் கோவில் உள்ளது. ராஜகோபுரத்திற்கு எதிரே உள்ள மண்டபத்தின் உச்சியில் சிவலிங்கத்தின் ஸ்டக்கோ படம் உள்ளது. ராஜகோபுரம் முதல் நிலையில் விநாயகரும் முருகனும் உள்ளனர். ராஜகோபுரத்தில் உள்ள கோஷ்டத்தில் வீரபத்திரரும் நந்தியும் உள்ளனர். கருவறையின் நுழைவாயிலில் ஸ்டக்கோ துவாரபாலகர்கள் உள்ளனர். மூலவர் சுற்று ஆவுடையார் மீது இருக்கிறார். கோஷ்டத்தில் விநாயகர், தட்சிணாமூர்த்தி, மகா விஷ்ணு, பிரம்மா, துர்க்கை.
பிரஹாரத்தில் சூரியன், நால்வர், சந்திரன், நால்வர், நவகிரகங்கள், துர்க்கை அம்மன் சந்நிதி, விநாயகர், ஸ்ரீ வள்ளி தேவசேனா சுப்பிரமணியர், சண்டிகேஸ்வரர், பைரவர். அர்த்த மண்டபத்தில் உற்சவர்களான சோமாஸ்கந்தர், சிவகாமி ஆகியோர் உள்ளனர்.
சோமாஸ்கந்தர் மற்றும் சிவகாமி
துர்க்கை அம்மன் கிழக்கு நோக்கி தனி சன்னிதியில் உள்ளார். துர்க்கை மூன்று பங்க கோலத்தில் நின்றுள்ளார்.
அம்பாள் தனி சந்நிதியில் அர்த்த மண்டபத்தில் தெற்கு நோக்கி இருக்கிறார். அம்பாள் அபய வரத ஹஸ்தத்துடன் நின்ற கோலத்தில் இருக்கிறாள்.
கட்டிடக்கலை
கோயில் கருவறை, அந்தரளம், அர்த்த மண்டபம் மற்றும் முக மண்டபம் ஆகியவற்றைக் கொண்டுள்ளது. கருவறையில் ஜகதி, மூன்றுபட்ட குமுதம், பட்டிகை ஆகியவற்றுடன் உபனம் மற்றும் பாத பந்த அதிஷ்டானம் உள்ளது. பிட்டி வேதிகையில் தொடங்குகிறது. கலசம், குடம், தாமரை இதழ்கள் மண்டி, புஷ்ப பொத்தியல் ஆகியவற்றைக் கொண்ட பிரம்ம காண்ட பைலஸ்டர்கள். பிரஸ்தாரம் நாசி கூடுகளுடன் கூடிய வலபி மற்றும் கபோதம் கொண்டது. இரண்டு அடுக்கு செங்கல் விமானம் என்பது பூமி தேசம். சிவன், தக்ஷிமூர்த்தி, மகா விஷ்ணு மற்றும் பிரம்மா ஆகியோர் தல மற்றும் கிரீவ கோஷ்டத்தில் உள்ளனர். சிகரம் வேசர பாணியில் உள்ளது.
முக மண்டபத் தூண்களில் நந்தி (உட்கார்ந்த நிலையில்), கலிங்க நார்த்தனார், ஊர்த்துவ தாண்டவராக சிவன், கந்தப்பெருண்டா, பைரவர் போன்றவர்களின் அழகிய புதைபடிவங்கள் உள்ளன.
வரலாறு மற்றும் கல்வெட்டுகள்இந்தக் கோயில் 12 - 13 ஆம் நூற்றாண்டைச் சேர்ந்தது என்றும், 18 - 19 ஆம் நூற்றாண்டுகளில் இது புனரமைக்கப்பட்டதாகவும் கூறப்படுகிறது .
மகா கும்பாபிஷேகம் ஜூன் 29, 2012 அன்று நடைபெற்றது.
புராணக்கதைகள்
இந்த ஸ்ரீ கைலாசநாதர் கோயில் பாலார் நதியின் கரையில் உள்ளது, அங்கு ஆறு தெற்கிலிருந்து வடக்கு நோக்கி பாய்கிறது. எனவே இந்த கோயில் காசிக்கு சமமான புனித தலமாகக் கருதப்படுகிறது. பக்தர்கள் இந்த சிவனை காசி விஸ்வநாதராகக் கருதி காணிக்கை செலுத்தலாம்.
