The visit to this Sri Santhana Gopalan Temple at Sirumadurai, in Kallakurichi District was a part of the 105^th Ahimsa walk organized by the Tamil Samanars, on 06^th April 2025.

The temple faces east with a mottai gopuram. Balipeedam and Garudan are after the entrance. Moolavar santhana Gopalan is with Sridevi and Bhudevi.

ARCHITECTURE

The temple comprises sanctum sanctorum, ardha mandapam, and open mukha mandapam. The temple was built with stone from adhistanam to prastaram. The sanctum sanctorum is on a pada bandha adhistanam with jagathy, and pattikai. The bhitti is plain without pilasters or koshtas. A two-tier brick nagara vimanam is on the bhumidesam. Stucco images of Maha Vishnu’s various avatars are on the vimanam.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS

The original temple was built during the 12^th to 13^th century. Later Pallava King Koperunjinga’s inscriptions are found on the adhistanam.

The original temple was reconstructed in the 18th—19th Century. It is said that efforts are ongoing to renovate the temple.

LEGENDS

Santhana Gopalan is one of the forms of Maha Vishnu. Santhana is related to the Child, hence devotees worship Sri Santhana Gopalan for Child boon.

Even though the temple is dilapidated, regular oru kala poojas are conducted and no other special poojas are conducted.

The temple is in the center of the village. The temple is 5.6 km from Thiruvennainallaur, one of the Thevara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam, 17 km from Viluppuram, and 21 km from Tirukoilur/ Thirukoilure.

The nearest Railway Station is Viluppuram.

கோயில் கருவறை, அர்த்த மண்டபம் மற்றும் திறந்த முக மண்டபம் ஆகியவற்றைக் கொண்டுள்ளது. இக்கோயில் அதிஷ்டானம் முதல் பிரஸ்தாரம் வரை கல்லால் கட்டப்பட்டது. கருவறை ஜகதி மற்றும் பட்டிகையுடன் கூடிய பாத பந்த அதிஷ்டானத்தில் உள்ளது. பைலஸ்டர்கள் அல்லது கோஷ்டங்கள் இல்லாமல் பிட்டி வெற்று. இரண்டு அடுக்கு செங்கல் நகர விமானம் பூமிதேசத்தில் உள்ளது. மகா விஷ்ணுவின் பல்வேறு அவதாரங்களின் ஸ்டக்கோ படங்கள் விமானத்தில் உள்ளன.

வரலாறு மற்றும் கல்வெட்டுகள்

^{அசல் கோயில் 12}முதல் 13 ^{ஆம் நூற்றாண்டு}வரை கட்டப்பட்டது . பிற்கால பல்லவ மன்னர் கோபருஞ்சிங்காவின் கல்வெட்டுகள் ஆதிஸ்தானத்தில் காணப்படுகின்றன.

அசல் கோயில் 18-19 ஆம் நூற்றாண்டில் புனரமைக்கப்பட்டது. கோயிலைப் புதுப்பிக்க முயற்சிகள் தொடர்ந்து நடைபெற்று வருவதாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது .

புராணக்கதைகள்

சந்தான கோபாலன் மகா விஷ்ணுவின் வடிவங்களில் ஒருவர். சந்தான குழந்தையுடன் தொடர்புடையவர், எனவே பக்தர்கள் குழந்தை வரம் வேண்டி ஸ்ரீ சந்தான கோபாலனை வழிபடுகின்றனர்.

இந்தக் கோயில் கிராமத்தின் மையத்தில் உள்ளது. இந்தக் கோயில் தேவார பாடல் பெற்ற சிவ தலங்களில் ஒன்றான திருவெண்ணெய்நல்லூரிலிருந்து 5.6 கி.மீ தொலைவிலும், விழுப்புரத்திலிருந்து 17 கி.மீ தொலைவிலும், திருக்கோவிலூர்/திருக்கோவிலூரிலிருந்து 21 கி.மீ தொலைவிலும் உள்ளது.
