Marur / Maruvur sivan temple

Marur is located on the north bank of the Cauvery, 9 km from Thiruvaiyaru on the road leading to Thirukattupally. It is also known as Maruvur. 

Marur Sivan Temple is an ancient Chola temple located on the side of the main road. An inscription carved in the southern part of the Maha Mandapam of this temple in 1249 AD during the reign of Rajendra III states - Thiruganasambandhar Math was located on the northern side of the Thirumadai Vilagam of the Nayanar Temple in this village. Thirugnanasambandha Mudaliar was the head of this Math; There is a news that 23 pits of land, arable land, 1 maa, a Mukkani and saplings were given to this Math as a Matha Sesha by the Mathadhipati Thirugnanasambandha Mudaliar.  Therefore, the temple we see today is more than 775 years old. 

The Pasupathiswarar temple is an east-facing temple surrounded by coconut trees on a large area. The main gate is at the south gate facing the main road going south. 

Lord - Pasupathiswarar Goddess - Mangalambikai 

The east-facing god, the goddess is facing south. It may have been built by the early Cholas, because the sanctum of the goddess is built separately towards the south. Before the time of Rajendran, there was a custom of building the Ambika kottam separately towards the south. 

The sanctum of the god and the Idanali front hall are built with black stone. At the front hall gate, there is a sculpture of a Siddha and a cow milking a Lingam in a small attic. The Siddha in this may be the Kaduveli Siddha; Kaduveli is just one km east of here. 

 Nandi is located directly opposite the Lord outside the front hall. There are majestic Dwarapalaks on both sides of the sanctum sanctorum gate. On the left side of the gate is Lord Vinayaka, on the right is the statue of the beautiful Ambika, and on the right is the statue of Valli Deivanai Sametha Murugan. There is also a statue of Chandesar. 

In the enclosure around the sanctum sanctorum, there are Lord Vinayaka and Dakshinamoorthy with their four disciples, and behind is Lingothpavar Brahma. The statue of Durga is kept separately in a broken state. Chandesar is not in its usual place but is inside to the right of the sanctum sanctorum gate for safety. Murugan has a separate shrine facing west, adjacent to the shrine of Ambika. There are also Navagrahas nearby. 

Since the temple is isolated, no small temples have been built in the prakara.

 This Shiva temple, the nearby Aiyanar temple, and some other temples in the village are being worshipped through a trust fund. The trust department has completed its duty by giving a thousand to the priest as usual.

திருவையாற்றில் இருந்து திருக்காட்டுப்பள்ளி செல்லும் சாலையில் 9 கிமி தூரத்தில் காவிரி வடகரையில் உள்ளது மரூர். மருவூர் எனவும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. 

பிரதான சாலையின் ஓரத்திலேயே உள்ளது மரூர் சிவன்கோயில் பழமையான சோழர் கால திருக்கோயில். மூன்றாம் ராஜேந்திரன் காலத்தில் கிபி 1249ல்  இக்கோயிலின் மகா மண்டபத்தின் தென்புற ஜகதியில் வெட்டப்பட்டுள்ள  கல்வெட்டில் - இவ்வூர் நாயனார் கோயிலின் திருமடை விளாகத்தின் வடபுறத்தில் இருந்தது  திருகானசம்பந்தர் மடம் இம்மடத்திற்க்கு தலைமை  தாங்கி நடத்திக்கொண்டு இருந்தவர் திருஞானசம்பந்த முதலியார்; இம்மடத்திற்கு  மட சேஷமாக 23 குழி மனை நிலமும் விளை நிலம் 1 மாவும் மற்றும் முக்காணியும் நாற்றங்காலும் மடாதிபதி திருஞானசம்பந்த முதலியார் பேரில் நீர் வார்த்து கொடுத்த செய்தி உள்ளது. அதனால் இன்று நாம் காணும் கோயில் 775 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு மேல் பழமையானது. 

 பெரிய அளவிலான நிலப்பரப்பில் சுற்றிலும் தென்னை மரங்கள் சூழ கிழக்கு நோக்கிய திருக்கோயிலாக உள்ளது பசுபதீஸ்வரர் கோயில். தென்புறம் செல்லும் பிரதான சாலையை நோக்கியிருக்கும் தென்புறவாயிலே பிரதான வாயிலாக உள்ளது. 

இறைவன்- பசுபதீஸ்வரர் இறைவி- மங்களாம்பிகை 

கிழக்கு நோக்கிய இறைவன்,  இறைவி தெற்கு நோக்கி உள்ளார். முற்கால சோழர்களால் கட்டப்பட்டு இருக்கலாம், ஏனெனில் அம்பிகையின் கருவறை தெற்கு நோக்கி தனித்து கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. ராஜேந்திரன் காலத்தின் முன்னர் அம்பிகை கோட்டம் தனித்து  தெற்கு நோக்கி கட்டும் வழக்கம் இருந்து வந்தது. 

இறைவன் கருவறை மற்றும் இடைநாழி முகப்பு மண்டபம்  ஆகியவை கருங்கல் கொண்டு கட்டப்பட்டு உள்ளது.. முகப்பு மண்டப வாயிலில் சித்தர் ஒருவரும் பசு ஒன்று பால் தானே லிங்கத்தின் மீது பால் கறக்கும் சிற்பமும் சிறிய மாடத்தில் உள்ளது. இதில் உள்ள சித்தர் கடுவெளி சித்தராகலாம்; கடுவெளி இங்கிருந்து ஒரு கிமி கிழக்கில் தான் உள்ளது. 

முகப்பும் மண்டபத்தின் வெளியில் இறைவனுக்கு நேர் எதிரில் நந்தி அமைந்துள்ளது. கருவறை வாயிலில் இருபுறமும் கம்பீரமான துவாரபாலகர்கள் உள்ளனர். வாயிலின் இடதுபுறம் விநாயகரும், வலதுபுறம் அழகிய அம்பிகையின் சிலையும், வள்ளி தெய்வானை சமேத முருகனின் சிலையும் உள்ளது. இதனை ஒட்டி சண்டேசர் சிலையும் உள்ளது. 

  கருவறை சுற்றில் கோஷ்டத்தில் விநாயகர் மற்றும் தக்ஷ்ணமூர்த்தி தன் சீடர்கள் நால்வருடன் உள்ளார், பின்புறம் லிங்கோத்பவர் பிரம்மன் உள்ளனர். துர்க்கை சிற்பம் உடைந்த நிலையில் தனித்து வைக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளது. சண்டேசர் வழமையான இடத்தில் இல்லாமல் பாதுகாப்பு கருதி உள்ளே கருவறை வாயிலின் வலதுபுறம் உள்ளார்.  அம்பிகையின் சன்னதியை ஒட்டி மேற்கு நோக்கிய பாலதண்டாயுதபாணியாக முருகன் தனி சன்னதி கொண்டுள்ளார். அருகில் நவகிரகங்களும் உள்ளன. 

 கோயில் தனித்து உள்ளதால் பிரகார சிற்றாலயங்கள் ஏதும் அமைக்கப்படவில்லை.

இந்த சிவாலயமும் அருகில் உள்ள ஐயனார் கோயிலும்,  கிராமத்தில் உள்ள இன்னும் சில கோயில்களும் ஒரு அறக்கட்டளை நிதியின் மூலம் பூஜைகள் நடைபெற்று வருகிறது. அறநிலைய துறை வழக்கம் போல் அர்ச்சகருக்கு ஆயிரம் தருவதுடன் தான் கடமையை முடித்துக்கொண்டுவிட்டது. 

எல்லோருக்கும் கிடைக்காத மதி, ஆனால் எல்லோரும் விரும்பும் மதி இக்கோயிலில் கிடைக்கும் அந்த மதி.  அது என்ன?
