The third abode of Lord Vinayaka, Kallavaran Pillayar

In the outer courtyard of the Amritakadeswarar temple in Thirukkadaiyur, Nagapattinam district, on the right side of the Shiva shrine, near Nandi, is the abode of Lord Kallavarana Pillayar, holding an ambrosia pot in his hand. He is called Sora Ganapathi in Sanskrit. This name was given because he captivates the hearts of devotees. This place is the third abode of Lord Vinayaka, after churning the ocean of milk and extracting ambrosia, Mahavishnu distributed it to the gods before performing the Ganesha puja. Due to this, Lord Vinayaka took the ambrosia pot and hid it in this place. Therefore, the Ganesha of this place is called Kallavaran Pillayar. That pot turned into a linga and became Amritakadeswarar.  This is why it is important to perform rituals and pujas related to longevity here.

நாகப்பட்டினம் மாவட்டம் திருக்கடையூர் அமிர்தகடேஸ்வரர் கோயிலில் சிவன் சந்நிதிக்கு வலதுபுறத்தில், நந்திக்கு அருகேயுள்ள வெளிப்பிரகாரத்தில் கையில் அமுத கலசத்தை ஏந்தியபடி கள்ளவாரணப் பிள்ளையார் அருள்பாலிக்கிறார். இவரை சமஸ்கிருதத்தில் சோர கணபதி என்பார்கள். இவர் பக்தர்களின் உள்ளத்தைக் கவர்வதால், இந்தப் பெயர் ஏற்படக் காரணமாயிற்று. இத்தலம் விநாயகப் பெருமானின் அறுபடை வீடுகளில் மூன்றாம் படை வீடாகும் பாற்கடலைக் கடைந்து அமிர்தம் எடுத்தபின், மகாவிஷ்ணு, விநாயகர் பூஜை செய்யும் முன்பாகவே அதை தேவர்களுக்குப் பங்கிட்டுக் கொடுத்தார். இதனால் விநாயகப் பெருமான் அமிர்த குடத்தை எடுத்து இத்தலத்தில் ஒளித்து வைத்தார். எனவே இத்தலத்து விநாயகர் கள்ள வாரண பிள்ளையார் எனப்படுகிறார். அந்த குடம் லிங்கமாக மாறி அமிர்தகடேஸ்வரர் ஆனது. இதனால் தான் ஆயுள்விருத்தி தொடர்பான யாகங்கள், பூஜைகள் இங்கு செய்வது சிறப்பாகும்.
