Kaalahastheeswarar Temple, 17, Coral Merchant Street, Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Old Washermanpet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu 600001 Kaalahastheeswarar Temple is located in  Old Washermanpet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu  at a distance of 4 Kms from Chennai Central Railway station and   23 Kms from Chennai Airport. This is one of the Pancha Bootha Sthalams in Chennai (representing the element Vayu – Air. The temple is considered equivalent to Kalahasthi Kalahasteeswarar Temple, Andhra Pradesh

The temple is facing east with an entrance arch. Dwajasthambam, Palipeedam and Nandhi in a mandapam   face  the sanctum. Stucco Dwarapalakas can be found at the entrance of the sanctum. Vinayagar, Dhakshinamoorthy, Vishnu , Brahma and Durgai are the Koshta Deities located on the walls around the sanctum.

Ambal Gnanaprasanambikai idol  is  very  beautiful. All the idolsi ncluding Kalahasteeswarar and Gnanaprasanambikai are very small in this temple. There are also shrines for Ayyappa, Hanuman, Naga Devadas, Pathanchali , Vyaghrapada , Bairavar Manjanamata, Chandikeswara, Shivalinga, Lord Subramanyar along with his consorts Valli and Devasena, Ganesha, and Navagraha in the Temple premises.

The main temple consists of sanctum sanctorum and ardha mandapam. The temple was reconstructed completely and the inscription tablet is missing now. From adhistanam to prastaram built with stone. A two tier dravida Vimana is on the sanctum sanctorum.

Stucco images of Ambal, Kannappar puranam, Ekapada thirumurthy, Kalahasti Kalahasteeswara Temple sthala puranam, Kanchipuram Ekambareswarar Sthala puranam, Kalahasti Shiva Lingam are on the side walls of mandapam and praharam.

As per the Legend, Sri Kalahasti is the name derived from  SRI = Spider, KALA = Serpent ( Snake) and Hasti = Elephant. It is believed that all the three worshiped Lord Shiva of this temple and attained mukti. The Spider weaved a shade to avoid leaves falling on Lord Shiva. This was destroyed by wind with fire and Lord Shiva gave mukthi to Spider. The snake used to worship Lord Shiva by offering precious gems which it brought from its naga land. This was cleaned and worshiped by the elephant with water which it brought water through it’s trunk from the river. On seeing this, the snake got angry and went inside the trunk and killed the elephant through bite and injected it’s poison. The elephant hits it’s head on the rock to killed the snake and died. Lord Shiva gave mukti to both snake and elephant for their devotion and bhakti. Hence Shri Shiva is called as Sri Kalahastheeswarar.

It is believed that this temple is very much similar to Kalahasti Sri Kalahastheeswarar temple and those who cannot go to Kalahasti, can offer their prayers at this temple. Ambal is very powerful and a varaprasadhi, grants child boon. Temple timings are : 7 am to 11 am and  5  pm to 8 pm.

காளஹஸ்தீஸ்வரர் கோவில், வண்ணாரப்பேட்டை, சென்னை

காளஹஸ்தீஸ்வரர் கோயில் , 17, பவள வணிகர் தெரு, திருவள்ளுவர் நகர், பழைய வண்ணாரப்பேட்டை , சென்னை, தமிழ்நாடு 600001 காளஹஸ்தீஸ்வரர் கோயில், சென்னை சென்ட்ரல் ரயில் நிலையத்திலிருந்து 4 கிமீ தொலைவிலும், சென்னை விமான நிலையத்திலிருந்து 23 கிமீ தொலைவிலும், தமிழ்நாட்டின் சென்னை, பழைய வண்ணாரப்பேட்டையில் அமைந்துள்ளது. சென்னையில் உள்ள பஞ்ச பூத ஸ்தலங்களில் இதுவும் ஒன்று (வாயு - காற்றை குறிக்கும்.இந்த கோவில் ஆந்திர பிரதேசம் காளஹஸ்தி காளஹஸ்தீஸ்வரர் கோவிலுக்கு சமமாக கருதப்படுகிறது.

கோயில் நுழைவு வளைவுடன் கிழக்கு நோக்கி உள்ளது. ஒரு மண்டபத்தில் த்வஜஸ்தம்பம், பலிபீடம் மற்றும் நந்தி ஆகியவை கருவறையை நோக்கி உள்ளன. கருவறையின் நுழைவாயிலில் ஸ்டக்கோ துவாரபாலகர்களைக் காணலாம். விநாயகர், தட்சிணாமூர்த்தி, விஷ்ணு, பிரம்மா மற்றும் துர்க்கை ஆகிய கோஷ்ட தெய்வங்கள் கருவறையைச் சுற்றியுள்ள சுவர்களில் அமைந்துள்ளன.

அம்பாள் ஞானபிரசாணாம்பிகை சிலை மிகவும் அழகு. இக்கோயிலில் காளஹஸ்தீஸ்வரர், ஞானப் பிரசனாம்பிகை உட்பட அனைத்து சிலைகளும் மிகச் சிறியவை. கோயில் வளாகத்தில் ஐயப்பன், அனுமன், நாக தேவதாஸ், பதஞ்சலி, வியாக்ரபாதர், பைரவர் மஞ்சனமாதா, சண்டிகேஸ்வரர், சிவலிங்கம், சுப்பிரமணியர் மற்றும் அவரது துணைவியார் வள்ளி, தேவசேனா, விநாயகர், நவகிரகம் ஆகியோருக்கும் சன்னதிகள் உள்ளன.

பிரதான ஆலயம் கருவறை மற்றும் அர்த்த மண்டபம் ஆகியவற்றைக் கொண்டுள்ளது. கோவில் முழுவதுமாக புனரமைக்கப்பட்டு, கல்வெட்டுப் பலகை இப்போது காணவில்லை. அதிஷ்டானம் முதல் பிரஸ்தாரம் வரை கல்லால் கட்டப்பட்டது. கருவறையில் இரண்டு அடுக்கு திராவிட விமானம் உள்ளது.

அம்பாள், கண்ணப்பர் புராணம், ஏகபாத திருமூர்த்தி, காளஹஸ்தி காளஹஸ்தீஸ்வரர் கோயில் ஸ்தல புராணம், காஞ்சிபுரம் ஏகாம்பரேஸ்வரர் ஸ்தல புராணம், காளஹஸ்தி சிவலிங்கம் ஆகியவற்றின் ஸ்டக்கோ படங்கள் மண்டபம் மற்றும் பிரஹாரத்தின் பக்க சுவர்களில் உள்ளன.

புராணத்தின் படி , ஸ்ரீ காளஹஸ்தி என்பது ஸ்ரீ = சிலந்தி, காலா = பாம்பு (பாம்பு) மற்றும் ஹஸ்தி = யானை ஆகியவற்றிலிருந்து பெறப்பட்ட பெயர். மூவரும் இக்கோயிலின் சிவபெருமானை வழிபட்டு முக்தி அடைந்ததாக நம்பப்படுகிறது. சிவபெருமான் மீது இலைகள் விழாமல் இருக்க சிலந்தி ஒரு நிழலை நெய்தது. இதை காற்றினால் நெருப்பால் அழித்து சிவபெருமான் சிலந்திக்கு முக்தி கொடுத்தார். பாம்பு தனது நாக தேசத்தில் இருந்து கொண்டு வந்த விலையுயர்ந்த ரத்தினங்களைக் காணிக்கையாக செலுத்தி சிவபெருமானை வழிபட்டது. இதை யானை தனது தும்பிக்கை வழியாக ஆற்றில் இருந்து கொண்டு வந்த தண்ணீரை கொண்டு சுத்தம் செய்து வழிபட்டது. இதைப் பார்த்த பாம்பு கோபமடைந்து தும்பிக்கைக்குள் சென்று யானையை கடித்து விஷ ஊசி போட்டு கொன்றது. பாம்பை கொல்ல யானை அதன் தலையை பாறையில் மோதி இறந்தது. சிவபெருமான் பாம்பு மற்றும் யானை ஆகிய இரண்டிற்கும் அவர்களின் பக்தி மற்றும் பக்திக்காக முக்தி கொடுத்தார். எனவே ஸ்ரீ சிவன் ஸ்ரீ காளஹஸ்தீஸ்வரர் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறார்.

இந்த கோவில் காளஹஸ்தி ஸ்ரீ காளஹஸ்தீஸ்வரர் கோவிலுக்கு மிகவும் ஒத்ததாக உள்ளது என்றும், காளஹஸ்திக்கு செல்ல முடியாதவர்கள் இந்த கோவிலில் பிரார்த்தனை செய்யலாம் என்றும் நம்பப்படுகிறது. அம்பாள் மிகவும் சக்தி வாய்ந்தவள், வரப்பிரசாதி, குழந்தை வரம் தருகிறாள். கோயில் நேரங்கள்: காலை 7 மணி முதல் 11 மணி வரை மற்றும் மாலை 5 மணி முதல் இரவு 8 மணி வரை.
