Rajamandri

Sri Uma Markandeyeswara Swamy Temple is a famous temple located in Rajahmundry town dedicated to Lord Shiva. Here, Lord Shiva is residing in the form of Uma Markandeyeswara Swami. The temple was reconstructed in 1818 by Gundu Sobhanadriswara Rao. The reconstruction of the temple was done with the addition of a gate at Gunduvari Street.

Legend

According to the legends, Sage Mrukhanada was childless and he prayed to Lord Shiva here for a child. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Shiva appeared before him and granted him with the wish of a child. However, Lord Shiva asked the sage to choose between a child with a life of 11 years and a child with low intelligence but with a long life. Sage and his wife chose the child with a life of 11 years. Later, after 11 years the death came to take the life of the child; however, the child was granted a long life by Lord Shiva.

Architecture

The gopuram of the temple has carvings of gods idols. The internal temple flooring is made of rock stone. The Shiva linga is made of black marble which is 3 feet tall. The temple walls are sculptured with the legendary stories of Lord Shiva.

ஸ்ரீ உமா மார்க்கண்டேயேஸ்வர ஸ்வாமி கோயில் ராஜமுந்திரி நகரில் உள்ள சிவபெருமானுக்கு அர்ப்பணிக்கப்பட்ட ஒரு புகழ்பெற்ற கோயிலாகும். இங்கு சிவபெருமான் உமா மார்க்கண்டேயேஸ்வர சுவாமி வடிவில் வீற்றிருக்கிறார். 1818ல் குண்டு சோபநாதீஸ்வர ராவ் என்பவரால் இக்கோயில் புனரமைக்கப்பட்டது. குண்டுவரித் தெருவில் ஒரு வாயில் சேர்த்து கோயிலின் புனரமைப்பு செய்யப்பட்டது.

புராணக்கதை

புராணங்களின்படி, ம்ருகநாத முனிவருக்கு குழந்தை இல்லாததால், குழந்தை வேண்டி இங்குள்ள சிவபெருமானிடம் பிரார்த்தனை செய்தார். அவரது பக்தியில் மகிழ்ந்த சிவபெருமான் அவர் முன் தோன்றி அவருக்கு குழந்தை வேண்டும் என்ற விருப்பத்தை வழங்கினார். இருப்பினும், சிவபெருமான் முனிவரிடம் 11 வயது ஆயுளைக் கொண்ட ஒரு குழந்தை மற்றும் குறைந்த புத்திசாலித்தனம் கொண்ட ஆனால் நீண்ட ஆயுளைக் கொண்ட குழந்தைகளில் ஒன்றைத் தேர்வு செய்யும்படி கேட்டார். முனிவரும் அவரது மனைவியும் 11 வயது ஆயுளைக் கொண்ட குழந்தையைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தனர். பின்னர், 11 ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு குழந்தையின் உயிரைப் பறிக்க மரணம் வந்தது; இருப்பினும், குழந்தைக்கு சிவபெருமான் நீண்ட ஆயுளை வழங்கினார்.

கோயிலின் கோபுரத்தில் கடவுள் சிலைகள் செதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. கோயிலின் உட்புறத் தளம் பாறைக் கல்லால் ஆனது. சிவலிங்கம் 3 அடி உயரம் கொண்ட கருப்பு பளிங்குக்கல்லால் ஆனது. கோயிலின் சுவர்கள் சிவபெருமானின் புராணக் கதைகளால் செதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.
