This resort is located on the south side of Balarangarai, 25 km east of Kanchi city.

Kaliswarar, who has a temple in this place, appeared under the manipunga tree of Makizha forest as Swayambu Murthy. History tells us that the Pandavas received the teachings of Sage Vyasa, reached the forest of bliss, worshiped this Lord and got rid of their previous sins. Obeying Lord Shiva's orders, Lord Kumara created a pool called Kumara Theertha and anointed Swayambu Murti through Athirtha and got rid of the sky that had afflicted Surana. Thousands of years ago, one of the great Chettiars who traded in cloves, pepper and cardamom and a great devotee of Shiva came to this Shiva lingam every day after doing pooja and while resting under the nearby manipunga tree, he saw a herd of cows coming there and pouring milk on the lingam. Later, while the merchant was sleeping under the tree, Eason, who appeared in his dream, increased the business of the merchant and accumulated more gold coins and wealth. It seems that the merchant, who was a devotee of Shiva, built this temple with black rocks and black stone rocks.

காஞ்சி மாநகரின் கிழக்கே 25km தொலைவில் பாலாற்றங்கரையின் தென்புறம் அமைந்துள்ளது இத்திருத்தலம்.

இத்தலத்தில் கோயில் கொண்டிருக்கும் காளீஸ்வரர், மகிழ வனத்தின் மணிப்புங்க மரத்தின் அடியில் சுயம்பு மூர்த்தியாய் எழுந்தருளினார்.பரத்வாஜ முனிவரால் பூசிக்க பெற்று கைலாய மோட்சமடைய அருளியவர். பாண்டவர்கள் வியாச முனிவரின் உபதேசம் பெற்று மகிழ வனத்தை அடைந்து இந்த இறைவனை வணங்கி முன்வினை பாவங்களை நீங்க பெற்றதாக வரலாறுகள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன. சிவபெருமான் கட்டளைக்கு கீழ்ப்படிந்து குமரக்கடவுள் குமார தீர்த்தம் என்னும் குளத்தை உருவாக்கி அத்தீர்த்தத்தின் மூலம் சுயம்பு மூர்த்தியை அபிஷேகம் செய்து சூரனை வதைத்த வானம் நீங்க பெற்றார். பல ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் கிராம்பு, மிளகு, ஏலக்காய் பொருள்களை வியாபாரம் செய்யும் பெரி செட்டியார்களில் ஒருவரும் சிறந்த சிவபக்தரும் ஆனா ஒருவர் இந்த சிவ லிங்கத்திற்கு தினமும் வந்து பூஜை செய்துவிட்டு அருகில் இருந்த தல விருட்சமான மணிப்புங்க மரத்தின் கீழ் இளைப்பாறும் சமயத்தில் பசுக்கூட்டங்கள் வந்து தானாக அங்கு வந்து லிங்கத்தின் மீது பால் சொரிவதை கண்டுள்ளார். பிறகு மரத்தின் கீழ் அவ்வியாபாரி உறங்கு சமயத்தில் அவரின் கனவில் தோன்றிய ஈசன் வியாபாரியின் தொழிலுக்கு பெருக்கியதால் அதிக பொற்காசுகள் செல்வமும் குவிந்தன.சிவபக்தரான அந்த வியாபாரி தன் ஈட்டிய பெருந் செல்வத்தினை கொண்டு கரும் பாறைகளை கொண்டு கருங்கற் பாறைகளை கொண்டு இத்திருக்கோவில் கட்டப்பட்டதாக தெரிகிறது.
