The temple is facing east. Stucco image of Shiva and Parvati are on the top of the mukha mandapam. The balipeedam and a rishabam are in front of the sanctum sanctorum. In koshtam..

Vinayagar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Ambal Parvathambigai, Bairavar Chandikeswarar and Navagrahas are in the praharam.

ARCHITECTURE

The temple is under renovation during my Visit.  An eka tala Gajaprishta Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum. Stucco images of Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu and Brahma are in the Greeva koshtam. The entrance to the sanctum sanctorum is very small. Viewing from inside, the temple was built with stone may be up to the ceiling level.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS

It is believed that the temple belongs to Pallava period. Before renovation the temple was below the ground level. The total sanctum sanctorum was lifted to the present level using Hydraulic jack. It is proposed to perform Maha Kumbhabhishekam on 5, 6 & 7th June 2023.

The temple space is encroached by the people and the Government too. An over head tank was constructed on the north west corner of the temple.

LEGENDS

During the celestial wedding of Shiva and Parvati, all the Devas, Rishis and Munis assembled at Mount Kailash to witness the marriage. Due to this the earth, South side raised and North side went to down. Shiva asked Agasthiyar to go to South to balance it. On the way to Podhigai, Agasthiyar installed and worshipped Shiva Lingas at many places. It is believed that the moolavar of this temple was also installed and worshiped by Agasthyar. hence Moolavar is called as Agastheeswarar.

Apart from regular poojas special poojas are conducted on pradosham, Maha shivaratri, Amavasya, Pournami, Sankadahara Chaturthi, Kiruthigai days, etc,.

எனது வருகையின் போது கோவில் புதுப்பிக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. கருவறையில் ஏக தல கஜபிருஷ்ட விமானம் உள்ளது. தட்சிணாமூர்த்தி, மகா விஷ்ணு மற்றும் பிரம்மா ஆகியோரின் ஸ்டக்கோ படங்கள் கிரீவ கோஷ்டத்தில் உள்ளன. கருவறையின் நுழைவாயில் மிகவும் சிறியது. உள்ளே இருந்து பார்க்கும் போது, ​​கல்லால் கட்டப்பட்ட கோவில் உச்சவரம்பு வரை இருக்கும். 

வரலாறு மற்றும் கல்வெட்டுகள்

இக்கோயில் பல்லவர் காலத்தைச் சேர்ந்தது என்று நம்பப்படுகிறது. புனரமைப்பதற்கு முன், கோவில் தரைமட்டத்திற்கு கீழே இருந்தது. ஹைட்ராலிக் ஜாக்கைப் பயன்படுத்தி மொத்த கருவறை தற்போதைய நிலைக்கு உயர்த்தப்பட்டது. 2023 ஜூன் 5, 6 மற்றும் 7 ஆகிய தேதிகளில் மகா கும்பாபிஷேகம் நடத்த திட்டமிடப்பட்டுள்ளது .

கோவில் இடம் மக்களாலும், அரசாங்கத்தாலும் ஆக்கிரமிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. கோயிலின் வடமேற்கு மூலையில் மேல்நிலைத் தொட்டி கட்டப்பட்டது.

புராணம்

சிவன் மற்றும் பார்வதி திருமணத்தின் போது, ​​அனைத்து தேவர்கள், ரிஷிகள் மற்றும் முனிகள் திருமணத்தைக் காண கைலாச மலையில் கூடினர். இதன் காரணமாக பூமி, தெற்கு பக்கம் உயர்ந்து, வடக்குப் பக்கம் கீழே சென்றது. அதை சமன் செய்ய சிவன் அகஸ்தியரை தெற்கு நோக்கிச் செல்லும்படி கூறினார். பொதிகை செல்லும் வழியில் அகஸ்தியர் பல இடங்களில் சிவலிங்கங்களை நிறுவி வழிபட்டார். இக்கோயிலின் மூலவர் அகஸ்தியரால் நிறுவப்பட்டு வழிபட்டதாக நம்பப்படுகிறது. எனவே மூலவர் அகஸ்தீஸ்வரர் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறார்.

பூஜைகள் மற்றும் கொண்டாட்டங்கள்

வழக்கமான பூஜைகள் மட்டுமின்றி, பிரதோஷம், மகா சிவராத்திரி, அமாவாசை, பௌர்ணமி, சங்கடஹர சதுர்த்தி, கிருத்திகை நாட்கள் போன்ற நாட்களில் சிறப்பு பூஜைகள் நடத்தப்படுகின்றன.
