Ezhumathur Kanakachala Kumaran Temple

Kanakachala Kumaran temple, Ezhumathur:  This place is around 22 Kms from Erode on the Vellakoil Road.    This temple is not well known outside Erode District.  This is a very rare temple where the Mama and Marumagan ( Uncle and Nephew ) co-exist on top of a hill!

As per the legend, Pulipani Siddhar, one of the 18 Siddhars, was searching for Patharaimatru Thangam ( Purest form of gold with a traditional purity measurement of 10.5 Matru ).  He was advised by Sage Agasthya to search in this hill.  Though he got the gold, it is of lesser purity at 71/2 Matru ( in Tamil, it is Ezharai Mathu or Matru ).   Hence the place came to be called Ezharai Mathur which later became Ezhumathur.    The purpose of showing only a lesser quality of gold is to advise the Siddhar not to be after the worldly things.  Since Gold ( Kanakam ) was found in the hill ( Achalam ), it came to be known as Kanakachalam.

Since Pulipani Siddhar was a staunch devotee of Murugan, he installed the idol of Murugan on top of this hill.  Since He sits on top of the Kanakachalam, He is called Kanakachala Murugan.   As mentioned earlier, Lord Krishnan with Rukmani and Sathyabama also give darshan from this hill temple.  It is believed that as Krishna came from a cattle breeding family, His presence here would ensure that the local people would be having healthy and yielding cattle.  I do not know whether there is any such ancient temple of this nature in existence anywhere else.

Lord Vinayaka gives darshan under the Holy Ilandhai tree.    The same place also houses the Saptha Kannikas.  People light lamps here for five consecutive Thursdays to get child boon.  Similarly, Go Pooja ( worship of Cow ) is done on the hill on all Tuesdays.  While Tuesday is an auspicious day for praying to Murugan, Cow is dear to Krishna!  The calf selected for Pooja reaches the shrine by climbing the hill!  

எழுமாத்தூர் கனகாசல குமரன் கோவில்

கனகாசல குமரன் கோவில், எழுமாத்தூர்:   ஈரோட்டில் இருந்து வெள்ளக்கோவில் சாலையில் 22 கிமீ தொலைவில் உள்ளது.     இந்த கோவில் ஈரோடு மாவட்டத்திற்கு வெளியே அதிகம் அறியப்படவில்லை.   மலை உச்சியில் மாமாவும் மருமகனும் (மாமாவும் மருமகனும்) இணைந்து வாழும் மிகவும் அரிதான கோயில் இது!

புராணத்தின் படி, 18 சித்தர்களில் ஒருவரான புலிப்பாணி சித்தர், பதரைமாற்று தங்கம் (10.5 மாத்ரு என்ற பாரம்பரிய தூய்மையான தங்கத்தின் தூய்மையான வடிவம்) தேடினார்.   அகஸ்திய முனிவரால் இம்மலையில் தேடுமாறு அறிவுறுத்தப்பட்டார்.   அவருக்கு தங்கம் கிடைத்தாலும், அது 71/2 மாத்ருவில் குறைவான தூய்மையைக் கொண்டுள்ளது (தமிழில், இது ஏழரை மாது அல்லது மாத்ரு).    எனவே அந்த இடம் ஏழரை மாத்தூர் என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டு பின்னர் எழுமாத்தூர் ஆனது.     தங்கத்தை மட்டும் தரம் குறைந்ததாகக் காட்டுவதன் நோக்கம், உலகப் பொருட்களைப் பின்தொடரக் கூடாது என்று சித்தருக்கு அறிவுரை கூறுவதாகும்.   தங்கம் (கனகம்) மலையில் (அச்சலம்) காணப்பட்டதால், அது கனகாசலம் என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டது.

புலிப்பாணி சித்தர் தீவிர முருக பக்தராக இருந்ததால் இம்மலையின் உச்சியில் முருகன் சிலையை நிறுவினார்.   கனகாசலத்தின் உச்சியில் அமர்ந்திருப்பதால் கனகாசல முருகன் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறார்.    முன்பு குறிப்பிட்டபடி, ருக்மணி மற்றும் சத்தியபாமாவுடன் கிருஷ்ணன் இந்த மலைக்கோயிலில் இருந்து தரிசனம் தருகிறார்.   கிருஷ்ணர் கால்நடை வளர்ப்பு குடும்பத்தில் இருந்து வந்தவர் என்பதால், இங்குள்ள அவரது இருப்பு உள்ளூர் மக்கள் ஆரோக்கியமான மற்றும் மகசூல் தரும் கால்நடைகளைப் பெறுவதை உறுதி செய்யும் என்று நம்பப்படுகிறது.   இது போன்ற பழமையான கோவில் வேறு எங்கும் உள்ளதா என்று தெரியவில்லை.

இலந்தை மரத்தடியில் விநாயகப் பெருமான் தரிசனம் தருகிறார்.     அதே இடத்தில் சப்த கன்னிகைகளும் உள்ளனர்.   குழந்தை பாக்கியம் பெற மக்கள் தொடர்ந்து ஐந்து வியாழன்கள் இங்கு தீபம் ஏற்றுகிறார்கள்.   இதேபோல், அனைத்து செவ்வாய் கிழமைகளிலும் மலையில் கோ பூஜை (பசு வழிபாடு) செய்யப்படுகிறது.

செவ்வாய்கிழமை முருகனை வழிபட உகந்த நாளாக இருந்தாலும் பசு கிருஷ்ணருக்கு பிரியமானது.
