Ishwaran Temple, Wiradhanur Madurai, where Eswaran took care of the tears  shed by devotees.

 Generally, Rishabharuda Murthy is the sub-murthy in all temples.  But in the Iswaran temple where the tears of Viratanur near Madurai were shed, Rishabarudar is blessed as the main deity.  The special feature of this temple is that you can worship the Lord as Rishabarudra during Pradosha.

 Rishabarudar:- Being harassed by demons, Devas went to Kailayam and appealed to Lord Shiva to save them.  Shiva mounted a chariot made by the Devas and set out to fight the Asuras.  The axle of the chariot is broken.  Because of his love for Shiva, Lord Vishnu carried Shiva in the form of a bull.  After this, Shiva got the name "Rishabarudar". Since Vishnu is the vehicle here, you can visit Shiva, Shakti and Perumal in the same place.

 750 years ago, two families from a town called Uttarakosamangai came to pay tribute to their ancestral deity Alaghar Kovil Perumal.  On the way they rested at Viradanur.  They cradled their baby in the banyan tree there and made them sleep.  Adults are also asleep.  The baby was missing in the crib when they woke up.

 The child was sitting on the tree.  Seeing this, the parents burst into tears and said, "Oh God!  Save the child,'' they cried.  Then the Lord asked Asari to build a temple for him in that town and worship him.  As per the Lord's order, they also kept the Rishabharudar idol, built a temple and worshiped it.  As he wiped away the tears of the lost child, the Lord was given the name 'Ishwaran who saved the devotees wept tears'.

The entrance of the temple is facing south.  Most of the temples have the moolavar shrine in the central area.  But here it is located in North West Vayu corner.  Nandi in the separate hall, Bhadrakali on the right side of the shrine, Veerabhatra on the left, Ganesha and Murugan in the Arthamandapa.

 In the South East Agni corner there is a shrine for village deities like Muthu Karupanna Sami, Rakkai, Chappani, Kaval Karupu, Muniyandi.

 The temple is at Viradanur about 14 km from Madurai.   From Madurai Central Bus Stand you can take a bus to Nedungulam via Chintamani, Panaiyur.

அழுத கண்ணீர் ஆற்றிய  ஈஸ்வரன் திருக்கோயில்,  விராதனூர் மதுரை 

பொதுவாக எல்லா  சிவாலயங்களிலும்  ரிஷபாரூட மூர்த்தி உப மூர்த்தியாகத்தான் இருப்பார். ஆனால், மதுரை அருகே உள்ள  விராதனூர் அழுத கண்ணீர்  ஆற்றிய ஈஸ்வரன் கோயிலில்  ரிஷபாரூடர் மூலவராக , அருள்பாலிக்கிறார். பிரதோஷ  காலங்களில் மூலவரையே  ரிஷபாரூடராக வழிபடலாம்  என்பது  இக்கோயிலின் சிறப்பு.

ரிஷபாரூடர்:- அசுரர்கள்  தொல்லையினால் தேவர்கள்  கயிலாயம் சென்று தங்களை  காப்பாற்ற சிவனிடம்  முறையிட்டனர்.  சிவன் தேவர்களால்  செய்யப்பட்ட தேரில் ஏறி  அசுரர்களுடன்  போருக்கு புறப்பட்டார்.  தேரின் அச்சு முறிந்து விட்டது. சிவனிடம் கொண்ட அன்பின் காரணமாக மகாவிஷ்ணு காளை உருவம் கொண்டு சிவனை ஏற்றிச்  சென்றார். இதன் பின்  சிவனுக்கு "ரிஷபாரூடர்'  என்ற திருநாமம்  உண்டாயிற்று. விஷ்ணு இங்கு  இடபவாகனமாக இருப்பதால்  சிவனையும், சக்தியையும்,  பெருமாளையும் ஒரே  மூலஸ்தானத்தில் தரிசிக்கலாம்.

750 வருடங்களுக்கு முன்,  உத்திரகோசமங்கை என்ற  ஊரிலிருந்து இரு குடும்பத்தினர், தங்கள் குலதெய்வமான அழகர் கோவில் பெருமாளுக்கு  நேர்த்திக் கடன் செலுத்த  வந்தனர். வழியில்  விராதனூரில் இளைப்பாறினர். தங்கள் குழந்தையை  அங்கிருந்த ஆலமரத்தில்  தொட்டில் கட்டி உறங்க  வைத்தனர்.  பெரியவர்களும் உறங்கி  விட்டனர்.  விழித்த போது தொட்டிலில்  குழந்தையைக் காணவில்லை.

மரத்தின் மீது அந்த குழந்தை  அமர்ந்திருந்தது. இதைக்கண்ட பெற்றோர் கண்ணீர் விட்டு  ""இறைவா! குழந்தையை  காப்பாற்று,'' என அழுதனர்.  அப்போது  இறைவன் அந்த ஊரில் தனக்கு கோயில் அமைத்து  வழிபடும்படி அசரீரியாக  கூறினார்.  இறைவனின் கட்டளைப்படி  அவர்களும் ரிஷபாரூடர் சிலை வைத்து, கோயில் கட்டி வழிபாடு  செய்தார்கள். குழந்தையை  காணாமல் அழுத கண்ணீரை  போக்கியதால், இறைவனுக்கு "அழுத  கண்ணீர் ஆற்றிய ஈஸ்வரன்'  என்ற திருநாமம் சூட்டப்பட்டது.

கோயிலின் வாசல் தெற்கு  நோக்கி அமைந்துள்ளது.  பெரும்பாலும் சிவாலயங்களில் மையப்  பகுதியில் தான் மூலவர்  சன்னதி இருக்கும். ஆனால்  இங்கு   வட மேற்கு வாயு  மூலையில்  அமைந்துள்ளது.  தனி  மண்டபத்தில்  நந்தி, சன்னதியின் வலப்புறம்  பத்ரகாளி, இடப்புறம்  வீரபத்திரர், அர்த்தமண்டபத்தில் விநாயகர், முருகன் அருள் பாலிக்கிறார்கள்.

தென் கிழக்கு அக்னி  மூலையில் முத்துக் கருப்பண்ண சாமி,  ராக்காயி, சப்பாணி, காவல்  கருப்பு, முனியாண்டி போன்ற  கிராம தேவதைகளுக்கு  சன்னதி  உள்ளது.

மதுரையிலிருந்து 14 கி.மீ. தூரத்தில் விராதனூர் உள்ளது.  மதுரை மத்திய பஸ் ஸ்டாண்டிலிருந்து சிந்தாமணி, பனையூர் வழியாக  நெடுங்குளம் செல்லும்   பஸ்சில் செல்லலாம்.
