 Temple History

 The temple where Lord Simhapuriswarar resided, established by the great sage Eranta in Avaniapuram, formerly known as Simmapuram, fell into disrepair and disappeared. 

Later, Adisankara Bhagavadbhada came to this region while performing a holy pilgrimage and was resting.  Then the sage appeared in his dream and told him that he had consecrated a Shiva lingam in this area and now the temple is destroyed.  Realizing this, Shankarar also recovered the lingam buried in the soil and consecrated it there.  This is why this place is also called Avaniruvara.

 Based on the evidence

 According to the inscriptions in this temple, the place may have been built by the Pallava kings in the 9th century AD.  In inscriptions this town is mentioned as Narayanamangalam.

 Organization

 The Shiva lingam enshrined in the Moolavar sanctum has a large dome.  The panam above him is the Emerald Tirumeni.  Adjacent to this is Mangalambhikai Ambal Sannidhi facing south.  Nandeeswarar appears before Moolavar Sannidhi.  It is noteworthy that the twelve-armed statue of Muruga Perumal is designed to have the features of Perumal.

 Worship

 Those who are facing loss in their business can get more profit in a few weeks if they worship Simhampureeswarar named as Avaneeswarar in this place.  Also, those who are facing hurdles in marriage and childless pray here.

 Elegance

 When all the requirements are fulfilled, they present new clothes to Moolavar and Ambal, anoint them with milk, fruit, water, sandalwood, etc.

 Arulmiku Simmapureeswarar temple  is open from 6 am to 12 pm and from 4 pm to 8 pm for devotees.

Festival

 Panguni Utthiram and Shivratri, which are auspicious days for Lord Shiva, are celebrated very well in this temple.  Devotees from different parts of the district gather to take part in the worship held here on Panguni Uttra.

 Arulmiku Simmapureeswarar Temple is located at Avaniapuram in Tiruvannamalai.  From Thiruvannamalai on the Kanpuram National Highway, one can reach this place after crossing Avalurpet and Chetupatta about 66 km.  There are bus facilities to go to Avaniyapuram from surrounding areas like Vellore, Kanchipuram, Vandavasi.

பஞ்ச பூத தலங்களில் ஒன்றாகக் கருதப்படுவது திருவண்ணாமலை. இந்த ஊரில் தான் அமைந்துள்ளது சிம்ம ராசிக்காரர்களுக்கு ஏற்ற அந்த சிவதலம். இத்தலத்தின் கருவறையில் எழுந்தருளியிருக்கும் சிவலிங்கம் பெரிய ஆவுடையாரைக் கொண்டுள்ளது. அதன் மேல் மரகதத் திருமேனி அமைந்திருப்பதே இக்கோவிலில் சிறப்பாக கருதப்படுகிறது. குறிப்பாக, சிம்ம ராசிக்காரர்களுக்கு உரிய தலமாக கருதப்படும் இக்கோவிலில் வந்து வழிபடுவதன் மூலம் தொழில், வர்த்தகம், குடும்பம் என அனைத்திலும் தலைசிறந்தவராக உருவெடுக்கலாம் என்பது நம்பிக்கை. 

கோவில் வரலாறு

முற்காலத்தில் சிம்மபுரம் என்றழைக்கப்பட்ட ஆவணியாபுரத்தில் ஏரண்ட முனிவரால் நிறுவப்பட்ட சிம்மபுரீஸ்வரர் இறைவன் வீற்றிருந்த கோவில் சிதிலமடைந்து மறைந்து போனது. பின், ஆதிசங்கர பகவத்பாதர் புண்ணிய யாத்திரை மேற்கொண்டபோது இப்பகுதிக்கு வந்து ஓய்வெடுத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார். அப்போது அவரது கனவில் தோன்றிய முனிவர், தான் இப்பகுதியில் சிவலிங்கத்தை வைத்து பிரதிஷ்டை செய்ததையும், தற்போது அக்கோவில் அழிந்துவிட்டதையும் கூறியுள்ளார். இதனை உணர்ந்த சங்கரரும், மண்ணில் புதையுண்டு கிடந்த அந்த லிங்கத்தை மீட்டெடுத்து அங்கேயே பிரதிஷ்டை செய்து வழிபட்டுள்ளார். இதனாலேயே இத்தல ஈசனுக்கு அவணீருவரர் என்ற பெயரும் சூட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. 

சான்றுகளின் அடிப்படையில்

இக்கோவிலில் உள்ள கல்வெட்டுக்களைக் கொண்டு இத்தலம் பல்லவ மன்னர்களால் கி.பி.9ஆம் நூற்றாண்டில் கட்டப்பட்டிருக்கலாம் என தொல்லியல் துறையினர் மூலம் கணிக்கப்படுகிறது. கல்வெட்டுக்களில் இந்த ஊர் நாராயணமங்கலம் என்று குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. 

தலஅமைப்பு

மூலவர் சன்னதியில் வீற்றிருக்கும் சிவலிங்கம் பெரிய ஆவுடையாரைக் கொண்டுள்ளது. அவர் மேல் அமைந்துள்ள பாணம் மரகதத் திருமேனி ஆகும். இதனருகே தெற்கு நோக்கியவாறு மங்களாம்பிகை அம்பாள் சன்னிதி உள்ளது. மூலவர் சன்னிதிக்கு முன் நந்தீஸ்வரர் காட்சியளிக்கிறார். பன்னிரு கரங்களுடன் முருகப் பெருமாள் திருவுருவம் பெருமாளின் அம்சங்களைக் கொண்டதாக வடிவமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. 

வழிபாடு

தொழிலில் தொடர்ந்து நஷ்டத்தைச் சந்தித்து வருவோர் இத்தலத்தில் உள்ள அவணீஸ்வரர் என்ற சிம்மபுரீஸ்வரரை வழிபட்டுச் சென்றால் ஒரு சில வாரங்களிலேயே கூடுதலான லாபத்தைச் சந்திக்க முடியும். மேலும், திருமணத் தடையுடையோர், குழந்தை பாக்கியம் அற்றோர் இங்கு பிரார்த்தனை செய்கின்றனர். 

நேர்த்திக்கடன்

வேண்டியவை யாவும் நிறைவேறியதும் மூலவர் மற்றும் அம்பாளுக்கு புது ஆடைகள் காணிக்கையாக வழங்கி, பால், பழம், திருநீர், சந்தனம் உள்ளிட்டவற்றைக் கொண்டு அபிஷேகம் செய்து மாலையிட்டு தங்களது நேர்த்திக்கடனை நிவர்த்தி செய்கின்றனர். 

நடை திறப்பு

அருள்மிகு சிம்மபுரீஸ்வரர் கோவில் நடை காலை 6 மணி முதல் 12 மணி வரையிலும், மாலை 4 மணி முதல் இரவு 8 மணி வரையிலும் திறக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும். 

திருவிழா

சிவபெருமானுக்கு உகந்த விரத நாட்களான பங்குனி உத்திரம், சிவராத்திரி உள்ளிட்டவை இத்தலத்தில் வெகு சிறப்பாகக் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. பங்குனி உத்திரத்தன்று இங்கு நடைபெறும் வழிபாட்டில் மாவட்டத்தின் பல்வேறு பகுதிகளில் இருந்தும் பக்தர்கள் திரண்டு வந்த பங்கேற்று அருள்பெறுவர்.
