Devi Karumari Amman Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Goddess Sakthi located at Nanganallur, a well-known locality in Chennai City in Tamil Nadu. The Temple faces the new highway laid recently for connecting Velachery with the GST road at the Thillai Ganga Nagar Point. This Temple is located adjacent to Lakshmi Narasimha Temple.

Legends

The founder of the temple, C J Vijaykumar, an ardent devotee of the goddess narrated an interesting episode about the genesis of the temple. Vijaykumar is a leading realtor here. In order to build apartments, he bought the land where the temple now exists. He used to frequently visit Tiruverkadu Karumariamman temple to seek her blessings. After purchasing the vacant land, he fixed an auspicious day for registration. The day before the registration, while walking on the street, he heard a ‘voice’ behind him. But he was unable to spot anyone. As he continued walking, he heard the voice of goddess Karumariamman ordering him to build a temple in that place. Bewildered and shocked beyond words, he at once obeyed the divine decree.

History

The Temple belongs to 20th Century, under the control of Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar Temple. The Kumbhabhishekam was performed on September 4, 1987.

The Temple

The temple is facing east with a 4 tier Rajagopuram. Trishul, Balipeedam and Simha Vahana can be found immediately after the Rajagopuram. The sanctum sanctorum consists of a Sanctum and a Mukha Mandapam. The east facing sanctum enshrines Karu Mari Amman idol which has only the head of the Goddess. Behind this, there is another idol of Karu Mari Amman who is found with her complete body and is in the sitting posture. 

Vinayagar, Thakshayini, Vaishnavi, Brahmi and Durga are the Koshta Idols located around the sanctum walls. A specially-designed glass case contains the idol of Karumariamman opposite the sanctum sanctorum of the goddess. The icon of the goddess worshipped earlier is inside the sanctum sanctorum of Durga. There is a separate shrine for the stucco image of Tirupati Balaji. Garuda is found facing towards Balaji.

The sub shrines of Vijaya Maha Ganapati, Lord Subramanya with his consorts Valli & Devasena, Hanuman and Navagraha in this temple. There are two stucco images of Mari Amman, one bigger and the other one smaller, located within the temple complex. The temple belongs to 20th century, under the control of Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar Temple. Both these temples share the common shed erected on the 24th street for functions & Utsavams.

Nanganallur or Nangainallur had been one of the southern neighbourhood of Chennai until September 2011; but thereafter a part of Chennai Corporation in Tamil Nadu. It is a residential area close to the Chennai International Airport. Nanganallur is located at about 4 Kms from Meenambakkam, 6 Kms from Pallavaram, 8 Kms from Guindy, 12 Kms from Thiruneermalai, 13 Kms from Tambaram and 21 Kms from Chennai.

The Temple is located at about 300 meters from Thillai Ganga Nagar Main Road Bus Stop, 500 meters from Surendra Nagar Bus Stop, 1 Km from Anjaneyar Kovil Bus Stop, 14 Kms from Tambaram Bus Stand and 12 Kms from Koyambedu Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus. The Temple is well accessible by road and connected to other parts of Chennai by MTC Buses.

கல்யாண வரமருளும் கருமாரி அம்மன்!

தாம்பரத்திலிருந்து கிண்டிவரை நெடுக வயல்வெளிகள். சென்னை-நங்கநல்லூர் 25 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு கிராமத்திலிருந்து புறநகராக மெல்ல மாறிவந்த காலகட்டம். நங்கநல்லூரின் விரிவாக தில்லை கங்கா நகர் குடியிருப்புகள் இருக்க, நங்கநல்லூரில் காஞ்சிமகாப்பெரியவரின் அருளால் அர்த்தநாரீஸ்வரர் கோயில் அழகுற அமைந்திருந்தது.

இந்த தருணத்தில் தில்லை கங்காநகரில் ஒரு அன்பர் அம்மன் கன்ஸ்ட்ரக்ஷன் என்கிற பெயரில் வீட்டுமனைகள் வாங்கி அடுக்குமாடி கட்டிடம் கட்டும் தொழிலை செய்து வந்தார். இவர் தீவிர அம்மன் பக்தர். திருவேற்காடு கருமாரி அம்மன் கோயிலுக்கு வாய்ப்பு கிடைக்கும் போதெல்லாம் சென்று அன்னையை தரிசிப்பதை வழக்கமாக கொண்டிருந்தார்.

அவர் தில்லை கங்காநகரில் பிரதான இடத்தில் ஒரு மனையை விலைக்கு வாங்க பேசிமுடித்தார். அந்த இடத்தில் ஒரு பிரம்மாண்டமான அடுக்கு மாடி குடியிருப்பு கட்ட திட்டமிட்டார். பத்திரப் பதிவுக்கு முதல்நாள் அவருக்குப் பின்னால் ஒரு குரல் கேட்டது. திரும்பிப் பார்த்தார்; யாருமில்லை. மீண்டும் நடக்கத் தொடங்க அந்த குரல் முற்றிலும் தெளிவாய் பேசியது. ‘தான் கருமாரி அம்மன் என்றும் நாளை வாங்கும் இடத்தில் தனக்கு ஆலயம் எழுப்பு’ என்றும் பணித்தது.

அன்னையின் வாக்கை கட்டளையாய் ஏற்ற அந்த பக்தர் அன்னைக்கு அழகிய ஆலயம் எழுப்பி தேவி கருமாரி அம்மனை அழகுற அமர்த்தினர். கிழக்கு நோக்கி அமர்ந்திருக்கும் அன்னை தன்னை நாடி வருபவர் வாழ்வில் எல்லாம் வசந்தம் கூட்டி அருள்கிறாள்.சென்னை&பரங்கிமலைக்கும் நங்கநல்லூருக்கும்  மத்தியில் அமைந்துள்ளது தில்லை கங்காநகர் தேவிகருமாரிஅம்மன் கோயில்.ஊரின் தொடக்கத்திலேயே இருக்கும் கோயிலை அழகிய ராஜகோபுரம் அலங்கரிக்கிறது. உள்ளே செல்ல பிராகாரத்தில் அனுமன், வெங்கடேசபெருமாள், விஜய மகாகணபதி, வள்ளி-தெய்வானை சமேத முருகன், அரசமரத்தடி நாகர், துர்க்கையம்மன், நவக்கிரகங்கள் ஆகியோர் தனிசந்நதிகளில் அருள்கிறார்கள்.

கருவறை கோஷ்டத்தில் விநாயகர், தாட்சாயினி, வைஷ்ணவி, பிராம்மி, துர்க்கை ஆகியோர் இருக்க கருவறையில் அரசிபோல் கொலுவிருக்கும் அன்னை வேப்பிலை மாலையும் எலுமிச்சை மாலையும் சூடி கம்பீரமாய் வீற்றிருக்கிறாள். நல்ல அதிர்வோடு துலங்கும் இந்த இடத்தில் நிற்கும் போதே மனம் லேசாகிறது.

அன்னைக்கு குங்குமம் அர்ச்சனை செய்து எலுமிச்சை தீபம் ஏற்ற கல்யாண வரம் நிச்சயம் என்கிறார்கள் பலனடைந்த பக்தர்கள். இது தவிர ஒவ்வொரு ஆங்கில மாதமும் கடைசி ஞாயிறு அன்று மாலை கருமாரிஅம்மனுக்கு மகா அபிஷேகமும் பூச்சொரிதலும் நடைபெறுகிறது. இதில் கலந்து கொண்டு மனதில் நினைத்து கைகூப்பி நின்றதை, செயலில் நிறைவேற்றி அருள்கிறாள் அன்னை. ஆடி வெள்ளிகளில் அன்னையின் தலத்தில் பக்தர்கள் கூட்டம் நிரம்பி வழிவது அன்னையின் அருளால் விளைந்த ஆனந்த காட்சி.
