One of the most revered Durga Mata temples in India is the Vindyavasini Beejasan Durga Devi Temple located in Salkanpur village at a little distance from Hoshangabad that lies on the Narmada Parikrama. This ancient temple is situated atop a hillock at an elevation of 800 feet and accessed by a flight of about 1000 plus steps or ropeway. The temple offers a panoramic view of the nearby densely wooded forests and hills.

Though the actual temple is believed to be thousands of years old, the structure seen today has been built by the Gonds around 1100 CE. Historians opine that this temple was constructed around the same time as the Ginnorgarh (Ginnaurgarh) Fort in Ratapani Tiger Reserve.

The presiding deity is also called Vijayasana Mata and this place used to be known as Vijayasana Dham. According to the Hindu scriptures, Divine Mother manifested as Durga Mata in this place to kill Raktabeeja. Locals say that there are marks and impressions of this great battle in various parts of the hill.

Durga Mata came to be known as Beejasan Durga Devi and took the name of Vijayasana after the battle. The idol of Vijayasana Mata in the sanctum sanctorum is Swayambhu. She is depicted as Parvati Devi with Lord Ganesha on her lap and is always adorned with vermillion. Vijayasana Mata faces south with Lord Bhairava consecrated in front of her and Lakshmi Devi and Saraswati Devi also enshrined in this sacred temple.

According to the locals, a tiger has been seen circumambulating the temple often and residing in a nearby cave. Thousands of devotees throng this temple during the auspicious occasion of Navaratri.

It is believed that Durga Mata will hear the prayers of one and all and rid them of disease, anguish and delusion.

 இந்தியாவில் உள்ள துர்கா மாதா கோயில்களில் ஒன்று, நர்மதா பரிக்கிரமாவில் அமைந்துள்ள ஹோஷங்காபாத்திலிருந்து சற்று தொலைவில் உள்ள சல்கன்பூர் கிராமத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள விந்த்யவாசினி பீஜாசன் துர்கா தேவி கோயில் ஆகும்.  இந்த பழமையான கோவில் 800 அடி உயரத்தில் உள்ள ஒரு குன்றின் மேல் அமைந்துள்ளது மற்றும் சுமார் 1000 க்கும் மேற்பட்ட படிகள் அல்லது ரோப்வே மூலம் அணுகலாம்.  அருகிலுள்ள அடர்ந்த மரங்கள் நிறைந்த காடுகள் மற்றும் மலைகளின் பரந்த காட்சியை இந்த ஆலயம் வழங்குகிறது.

 உண்மையான கோயில் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான ஆண்டுகள் பழமையானது என்று நம்பப்பட்டாலும், இன்று காணப்படும் கட்டிடம் 1100 CE இல் கோண்டுகளால் கட்டப்பட்டது.  ரதபானி புலிகள் சரணாலயத்தில் உள்ள கின்னோர்கர் (கின்னூர்கர்) கோட்டை கட்டப்பட்ட காலத்திலேயே இந்தக் கோயிலும் கட்டப்பட்டதாக வரலாற்றாசிரியர்கள் கருத்து தெரிவிக்கின்றனர்.

 மூலஸ்தான தெய்வம் விஜயாசன மாதா என்றும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறது, மேலும் இந்த இடம் விஜயாசன தாம் என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டது.  இந்து மத நூல்களின்படி, ரக்தபீஜைக் கொல்ல தெய்வீக தாய் துர்கா மாதாவாக இந்த இடத்தில் காட்சியளித்தார்.  மலையின் பல்வேறு பகுதிகளில் இந்த மாபெரும் போரின் அடையாளங்களும் பதிவுகளும் இருப்பதாக உள்ளூர்வாசிகள் கூறுகின்றனர்.

 துர்கா மாதா பீஜாசன் துர்கா தேவி என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டு, போருக்குப் பிறகு விஜயாசனா என்ற பெயரைப் பெற்றார்.  கருவறையில் உள்ள விஜயாசன மாதாவின் சிலை சுயம்பு.  அவள் மடியில் விநாயகப் பெருமானுடன் பார்வதி தேவியாக சித்தரிக்கப்படுகிறாள் மற்றும் எப்போதும் வர்மத்தால் அலங்கரிக்கப்படுகிறாள்.  விஜயாசன மாதா தனது முன் பைரவர் பிரதிஷ்டை செய்ய தெற்கு நோக்கி உள்ளது மற்றும் லக்ஷ்மி தேவி மற்றும் சரஸ்வதி தேவி இந்த புனித கோவிலில் பிரதிஷ்டை செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது.

 உள்ளூர்வாசிகளின் கூற்றுப்படி, ஒரு புலி அடிக்கடி கோவிலை சுற்றி வருவதையும், அருகிலுள்ள குகையில் தங்குவதையும் காண முடிந்தது.  இந்த கோவிலில் நவராத்திரி பண்டிகையின் போது ஆயிரக்கணக்கான பக்தர்கள் கூடுவார்கள்.

 துர்கா மாதா ஒருவரின் பிரார்த்தனைகளைக் கேட்டு, நோய், வேதனை மற்றும் மாயையிலிருந்து விடுபடுவார் என்று நம்பப்படுகிறது.
