Chinnalapatti Chaturmuga Murugan Temple

Chinnalapatti Chaturmuga Murugan Temple:  This is another well known temple situated within the town.  We might have visited several Murugan temples and heard the sthala puranams. But the story connected with this temple is very unique and the readers would agree  on this aspect, after reading the entire write up on this temple.

Readers must be familiar with the rivalry between Sages Vashista and Vishwamithra.  The former refused to accept the latter as a Brahmashri as he belonged to the Kshatriya community.   The latter went on a severe penance and prayed to Parameswara.  The Lord told him that it was Mother Bala Thripurasundari who could confer the honour and advised him to pray to Her.  The sage recommenced his penance.  After some time, he heard the sounds of the anklets.  When he opened his eyes, he found a beautiful young girl with a smiling face, standing before him. 

He understood that it was the Mother Bala Thripurasundari.  He offered Her prayers and requested for help.  The girl started laughing and asked him as to why he was struggling so much to get the exalted status; he could easily obtain it by applying Kumkum on Her forehead.  The Rishi prepared the Kumkum after praying to Shiva and applied the thilak.  The girl went to the nearby tank and looked at her image.  A small portion of the Kumkum fell in the water and from it came a beautiful child face.  It was followed by three more children faces and all of them got united and became a beautiful child with four faces.  This Divine child worshipped the Mother and she called Him Chaturmuga Muruga. 

Viswamithra was moved and realised that Ambal created this Murugan only to help him in his quest.  The Mother told him that while Arumugan was created out of the Third Eye of the Lord without Ambal’s involvement, now She has created this Chathurmurugan only for the Rishi! Ambal asked him to pray to this Murugan and achieve his goal and disappeared.  The Rishi was moved and started praying to this Murugan.  He then realised that he had completely lost his ego and repented for wasting his time in trying to achieve the Maharishi title. 

At that time, he saw stones falling like rain drops in a nearby place.  Murugan advised him to come there to realise his desire.  When he went there, he saw the shrines of Bala Thripurasundari and Chaturmuga Murugan.  When he was praying there, he heard someone addressing him as Maharishi.  When he turned around, he saw Vasishta standing there.  As stones were raining in bulk ( Dindu ), the place came to be called Dindigul and the place shown to the Rishi by a young boy ( Chinna Aal in Tamil ),  became Chinnalapatti.

We have seen Murugan temples with either six or single face.  This may be the only temple where the Lord is with four faces.  There are other unique features about this Lord.  While the Conch ( Shanku ) and Wheel ( Chakra ) insignias are seen on both his hands, Gowrishankara Rudraksham adorns his chest.  I am hearing about the symbols of Vishnu ( Shanku and Chakra ) seen on a Muruga idol for the first time. 

The special abhishekam in this temple is the one where Kumkum is mixed with milk.  This Abhishekam is performed every Tuesday.  The Lord with the four faces sits in the Mahamandapam facing South.  Moolavar appears with both Valli and Devasena.  In the praharam, there are shrines for Vinayaka, Dhandapani, Kukkuda Subramanya, Balasubramanyar and Chandikeswarar. There is also a separate shrine for Bhairavar where special poojas are offered on Krishna Paksha Ashtami.  People with Sevvai Dosham ( ill effects of Mars ) pray in this temple.

திண்டுக்கல்லில் இருந்து சுமார் 15 கி.மீ. தொலைவில் உள்ளது சின்னாளப்பட்டி. கண்டாங்கிப் புடவைக்குப் பேர் பெற்ற இந்த ஊரில், கருணையோடு கோயில் கொண்டு அனைவருக்கும் அருள்பாலிக்கிறார் கந்தக் கடவுள்!

 

திண்டுக்கல்லில் இருந்து சுமார் 15 கி.மீ. தொலைவில் உள்ளது சின்னாளப்பட்டி. கண்டாங்கிப் புடவைக்குப் பேர் பெற்ற இந்த ஊரில், கருணையோடு கோயில் கொண்டு அனைவருக்கும் அருள்பாலிக்கிறார் கந்தக் கடவுள்!

பிரணவத்தின் பொருளைக் கேட்டு, விளக்கம் தெரியாமல் தவித்த பிரம்மாவை சிறையில் அடைத்தார் அல்லவா, சிவமைந்தன்?! அதை நினைவுகூரும் வகையில் இங்கே, இந்தத் தலத்தில் நான்முகனாக, சதுர்முகத்துடன் அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார் முருகப்பெருமான் என்கிறது கோயிலின் ஸ்தல வரலாறு.

வடக்குப் பார்த்தபடி அருள்கிற ஸ்ரீசதுர்முக முருகக் கடவுளுக்குத்தான் ராஜகோபுரம் அமைந்துள்ளது. இப்படி நான்கு முகங்களுடன் முருகக் கடவுளைத் தரிசிப்பது விசேஷம் எனப் போற்றுகின்றனர் பக்தர்கள்!

செவ்வாய்க்கிழமைகளில், குங்குமமும் பாலும் கலந்து அபிஷேகித்தால், செவ்வாய் தோஷம் நீங்கும் என்பது நம்பிக்கை. மேலும், சத்ரு பயம் விலகும். குழந்தை பாக்கியம் கிடைக்கப் பெறுவர் என்பது நம்பிக்கை!

சஷ்டி விழா இங்கே விசேஷம். சஷ்டி விரதம் இருந்து கந்தவேளைத் தரிசித்தால், எதிரிகள் முதலான சகல தொல்லைகளும் நீங்கும். சந்தோஷங்கள் பெருகும்.

மூலவராக முருகக் கடவுள் கோலோச்சும் இந்த ஆலயத்தில், கன்னிமூலையில் ஸ்ரீகணபதியும் வாயுமூலையில் ஸ்ரீதண்டாயுதபாணியும் ஈசான்ய மூலையில் ஸ்ரீபைரவரும் சந்நிதி கொண்டிருக்கின்றனர். தேய்பிறை அஷ்டமி நாளில் ஸ்ரீபைரவருக்கு தயிர்சாதம், வடை ஆகியவற்றை நைவேத்தியம் செய்து வேண்டிக் கொண்டால், சத்ரு உபாதைகள் நீங்கும்;

இங்கே உள்ள ஸ்ரீபாலதிரிபுரசுந்தரிக்கு புடவை சார்த்தி, செவ்வரளி மலர்கள் சூட்டி வழிபட்டால், கல்வியும் ஞானமும் பெறலாம்! அங்காரகன் வழிபாடும் இங்கு விசேஷம்! செவ்வாய்க்கு அதிபதியான கந்தக் கடவுளுக்கு செவ்வாய்க் கிழமைகளில், துவரம்பருப்புடன் அச்சுவெல்லமும் கலந்து நைவேத்தியம் செய்து பிரார்த்தித்தால், வீடு- மனை சம்பந்தமான பிரச்னைகள் அனைத்தும் நீங்கும்.
