 Nandi of Lord Shiva has been consecrated in her shrine.  Ashtabhuja Durga, Mahalakshmi and Saraswati carrying the amrita casket are in the koshta.

 Three-point Ambikai: Vishwamitra Maharishi chanted the Gayatri Mantra and attained the title of Brahmarishi.  The image that appeared while reciting this mantra was cast as Gayatri.  She is seated on a lotus facing west, five-faced, and armed with ten arms.  Near the foot is Srichakra.  It is believed that she graces Gayatri in the morning, Savitri in the afternoon and Saraswati in the evening.  She is the aspect of the Trinity and the Muttevi.

 Full Moon Puja

 Since Gayatri is the giver of power to the sun, she is celebrated on the full moon of the month of Leo (Avani), which is favorable to the sun.  Gayatri mantra is recited 1008 times on full moon days and special pooja is performed along with homam.  For the education of children, she is worshiped by garlands of red flowers, Vada and Payasam.  Laksharchan is performed on Navratri and Parivet on Vijayadashami.

 Head history

 A king went on the Thala Yatra to get rid of his sin.  An Anthana, who met him on the way, gave the king the virtue he had gained by the Gayatri Mantra.  This got rid of his guilt.  The happy king gave the material to Antanar.  He refused to buy it and asked him to build a temple for Gayatri.  Accordingly, the king built a separate temple here with Gayatri as the source.

சிவனுக்குரிய நந்தியை இவளது சன்னதிக்குள் பிரதிஷ்டை செய்துள்ளனர். கோஷ்டத்தில் அஷ்டபுஜ துர்க்கை, அமிர்த கலசம் ஏந்திய மகாலட்சுமி, சரஸ்வதி உள்ளனர்.

மூன்று அம்ச அம்பிகை:விஸ்வாமித்திர மகரிஷி காயத்ரி மந்திரம் சொல்லி, பிரம்மரிஷி பட்டம் பெற்றார். இந்த மந்திரத்தைச் சொல்லும் போது தோன்றிய உருவத்தை காயத்ரியாக வடித்தனர். இவள் மேற்கு நோக்கி, ஐந்து முகம், ஆயுதம் ஏந்திய பத்து கரங்களுடன் தாமரை மலரில் அமர்ந்திருக்கிறாள். பாதம் அருகில் ஸ்ரீசக்ரம் உள்ளது. இவள் காலையில் காயத்ரி, மதியம் சாவித்திரி, மாலையில் சரஸ்வதியாக அருளுவதாக ஐதீகம். இவளே மும்மூர்த்திகள் மற்றும் முத்தேவியரின் அம்சமாக இருக்கிறாள்.

பவுர்ணமி பூஜை

காயத்ரி, சூரியனுக்கு சக்தி தருபவள் என்பதால், சூரியனுக்கு உகந்த சிம்ம (ஆவணி) மாத பவுர்ணமியை ஒட்டி இவளுக்கு விழா நடக்கும். பவுர்ணமி நாட்களில் 1008 முறை காயத்ரி மந்திரம் சொல்லி, ஹோமத்துடன் விசேஷ பூஜையும் நடக்கிறது. குழந்தைகளின் கல்வி சிறக்க, இவளுக்கு சிவப்பு நிற மலர் மாலை அணிவித்து, வடை, பாயசம் படைத்து வணங்குகின்றனர். நவராத்திரியில் லட்சார்ச்சனையும், விஜயதசமியன்று பரிவேட்டை நிகழ்ச்சியும் நடக்கும்.

தல வரலாறு

மன்னன் ஒருவன் தனக்கு ஏற்பட்ட தோஷ நிவர்த்திக்காக, தல யாத்திரை சென்றான். வழியில் அவனைச் சந்தித்த அந்தணர் ஒருவர், காயத்ரி மந்திரத்தால் தான் பெற்ற புண்ணியத்தை மன்னனுக்கு கொடுத்தார். இதனால் அவனது தோஷம் நீங்கியது. மகிழ்ந்த மன்னன், அந்தணருக்கு பொருள் கொடுத்தான். அதை வாங்க மறுத்தவர், காயத்ரிக்கு கோயில் கட்டும்படி கேட்டுக்கொண்டார். அதன்படி மன்னன் இங்கு காயத்ரியை மூலவராகக் கொண்டு தனிக்கோயில் கட்டினான்.
