Famed for the Kurinji flower that blossoms only 12 years once, Kurinjiandavar Temple is a significantly known temple of Kodaikanal. It is situated just 3 km from mesmerizing Kodaikanal Lake and is devoted to the God of Hills, i.e. Lord Muruga. Decoding the meaning of this temple’s name, Kurinji stands for hill area and Andavar refers to God, so that is why this temple is called as Kurinjiandavar named after the Hill God Muruga.

Kurinji Andavar Temple was constructed in 1936 by a European woman who became Hindu, was named as Leelavathi and then married Mr. Ramanathan. She is also endearingly called as Lady Ramanathan.

கொடைக்கானல் குறிஞ்சி ஆண்டவர் கோயில்

 

மலைகளின் இளவரசியான கொடைக்கானலில் பஸ் ஸ்டாண்டில் இருந்து 3 கிமீ தொலைவில் அமைந்துள்ளது குறிஞ்சி ஆண்டவர் கோயில். பழந்தமிழர்களின் நிலவகை பகுப்பில் மலையும் மலை சார்ந்த நிலமும் குறிஞ்சி என அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. இது தமிழரின் மலை நிலத்திற்கும், குறிஞ்சி செடிகளுக்கும் இடையேயான பிணைப்பை குறிக்கும் சொல்.

12 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு ஒருமுறை மலரும் இந்த அரிய வகை குறிஞ்சி மலர்கள் கொடைக்கானல் மலைப் பகுதிகளில் நீல வண்ணத்தில் பூத்துக் குலுங்கும் அழகை ரசித்த ஆஸ்திரேலிய பெண்மணி ஆர்.எல்.ஹாரிசன் என்பவர், இப்பகுதியை சேர்ந்த ராமநாதன் என்பவரை திருமணம் செய்தார். தனது பெயரை லீலாவதி என மாற்றிக் கொண்டார். கொடைக்கானலில் தங்கிய அவர், அங்கிருந்தே முருகன், தண்டாயுதபாணியாய் வீற்றிருக்கும் பழநி மலையை தினமும் பார்த்து பரவசமடைந்துள்ளார்.

மழைக்காலங்களில் மேகக் கூட்டங்கள் பழநி மலை மற்றும் கோயிலை மறைத்ததால், கொடைக்கானலில் ஒரு பகுதியிலேயே கடந்த 1936ல் ஒரு முருகன் கோயிலைக் கட்டி வழிபட்டுள்ளார். பின்னர் ராமநாதனின் வளர்ப்புப் பெண்ணான பத்மினி, அவரது கணவர் பாஸ்கரன் ஆகியோர் இந்தக் கோயிலை பழநி தண்டாயுதபாணி சுவாமி திருக்கோவில் நிர்வாகத்திற்கு கொடுத்துள்ளனர். இதன் பின்னர், இக்கோயில் குறிஞ்சி ஆண்டவர் கோயில் என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது.

தற்போதும் குறிஞ்சி ஆண்டவர் கோயிலின் இடதுபுறத்தில் இருந்து பார்த்தால் பழநி மலைக்கோயிலை காணலாம். கொடைக்கானல் வரும் சுற்றுலாப் பயணிகள், குறிஞ்சி ஆண்டவரான முருகனை தரிசனம் செய்து செல்வதை வழக்கமாகக் கொண்டுள்ளனர்.

மலர் வழிபாடு

கொடைக்கானல் குறிஞ்சி ஆண்டவர் கோயிலில் மே மாதத்தில் மலர் வழிபாடு நடைபெறும். இதனைக் காண நாடு முழுவதும் இருந்து பல்லாயிரக்கணக்கான சுற்றுலாப் பயணிகள் வருகின்றனர். கொடைக்கானல் பகுதிகளில் பூத்துக் குலுங்கும் மலர்களைக் கொண்டே குறிஞ்சி ஆண்டவர் கோயில் நடை முழுவதும் அலங்காரம் செய்யப்படுகிறது. மேலும் குறிஞ்சி முருகனுக்கும் இந்த மலர்களால் சிறப்பு அலங்காரம் செய்யப்படுகிறது.

குறிஞ்சி செடி

குறிஞ்சி ஆண்டவர் கோயில் நடையில் குறிஞ்சி செடிகள் உள்ளன. 12 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு ஒருமுறையே இச்செடிகள் பூக்கும். கடந்த 2006ல் குறிஞ்சிப் பூக்கள் நீல நிறத்தில் கொடைக்கானலில் பூத்து குலுங்கின. பச்சைப் புடவையை மாற்றி, நீலக்கலரில் புடவை கட்டி பவனி வருகிறாள் கொடைக்கானல் மலை இளவரசி என இந்த அழகை இப்பகுதி மக்கள் சிலாகிக்கின்றனர்.

12 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு பின்னர் இந்த ஆண்டு குறிஞ்சி மலர்கள் பூக்கும் என எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது. குறிஞ்சி மலர் பூக்கும் காலங்களில், இக்கோயிலில் உள்ள முருகனுக்கு பெரும்பாலும் குறிஞ்சிப் பூக்களைக் கொண்டே அலங்காரங்கள் செய்து, சிறப்பு வழிபாடுகள் நடைபெறும்.
