 Ekadasi Perumthrikovil Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Udayamperoor of Ernakulam District in Kerala, India. The Temple is believed to be more than 1000 years old. This Temple is considered as one of the 108 Shiva Temples created by Lord Parasurama. This temple is a classic example of the architectural style of Kerala and has monumental towers and Round Sanctum Sanctorum. One of the big Siva temples in Kerala, the Udayamperoor Temple has a courtyard of about four acres of land. The Temple is located at about 2.5 Kms from Chottanikkara Road Railway Station, 14 Kms from Cochin, 32 Kms from Cochin Airport; The Temple is situated on Ernakulam to Kumarakom Route.

Puranic Significance

According to mythology, Lord Parasurama created the land between Gokarna and Kanyakumari. Parasurama the sixth avatar of Maha Vishnu, he was youngest son of sage Jamadagni and Renuka. It is said that Kerala was reclaimed from the ocean using his axe for donating to Brahmins after killing of King Kartavirya. Arjuna and other Kshatriyas. He split this land in to 64 villages. Out of these 64 villages, 32 villages are in between Perumpuzha and Gokarnam and the spoken language was Tulu. The remaining 32 villages were in Malayalam speaking area between Perumpuzha and Kanyakumari. According legends, after donating the land to Brahmins108 Maha Shiva Lingam and Durga Idols were installed in these 64 villages. These 108 Shiva Temples are mentioned in the Shivala Stotram and song is written in Malayalam language. Of the 108 Siva Temples, 105 temples are situated in Kerala state, 2 temples in Karnataka and 1 in Kanyakumari District of Tamil Nadu. Among these temples, the Lord Shiva of Gokarnam Mahabaleswara Temple in the north and Goddess Kumari of Kanyakumari temple in the south were considered as the protectors of Kerala. The first temple created by Parasurama was the Thrissur Vadakkunnathan Temple and the last one was the Thrikkariyoor Mahadeva Temple.

Special Features

This temple is a classic example of the architectural style of Kerala. The Temple covers an area of about four acres. The Temple has a tower at the entrance. The Sanctum housing the presiding deity is in round shape. The Mukha Mandapa follows Kerala Dravidian architecture. There are shrines of Ganapathy, Parvathy, Subramaniyan, Sastha, Krishna, Yakshi and Dakshinamoorthy in the Temple premises.

Festivals

All Shiva related festivals especially Masi Magam is celebrated here with much fanfare.

உதயம்பேரூர் ஏகாதசி பெரும்திருக்கோவில் கோயில் என்பது இந்தியாவின் கேரள மாநிலம் எர்ணாகுளம் மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள உதயம்பேரூரில் சிவனுக்கு அர்ப்பணிக்கப்பட்ட ஒரு பழமையான இந்துக் கோயிலாகும் .  இந்த கோவில் கேரளாவின் கட்டிடக்கலை பாணிக்கு ஒரு சிறந்த உதாரணம் மற்றும் நினைவுச்சின்ன கோபுரங்கள் மற்றும் சுற்று கருவறை ஆகியவற்றைக் கொண்டுள்ளது. கேரளாவில் உள்ள பெரிய சிவன் கோயில்களில் ஒன்றான உதயம்பேரூர் கோயிலுக்கு சுமார் நான்கு ஏக்கர் நிலப்பரப்பு உள்ளது. முக மண்டபம் - முதல் அறை கேரள-திராவிட கட்டிடக்கலையில் கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. நாட்டுப்புறக் கதைகளின்படி, முனிவர் பரசுராமர் சிலையை நிறுவினார். கேரளாவில் உள்ள 108 பிரசித்தி பெற்ற சிவன் கோவில்களில் இந்த கோவில் ஒரு பகுதியாகும் .
