MARDESHWAR TEMPLE IN SHEHRA

There is a village palikhanda in the District called Panchmahals, in the state of Gujarat. And there is a temple named “ Mardeshwar Mahadev ”  which is 1 kilometer from the village of Shahera.  Mardeshwar Mahadev is self-manifested.

        This ancient Shiva temple is located on the state highway number 5 and is equidistant from Godhra and Lunawada. In ancient times Shahera was known as “Shivpuri Nagari”, which was later named as Shahera. Legend has it that, all Shiv temples in Shahera are one third of the size of Mardeshwar Mahadev.

 Legend tells us that, Shivpuri Nagari (Shahera) was ruled by King Bhadrasena. This city suffered many times either due to drought or attacks of enemies. King Bhadrasen loved his people and could not bear to see the distress of his subjects and he wanted to alleviate their suffering, so, he decided to please Lord Shiva.

 Following this thought, King Bhadrasena went to forest. He started a deadly penance to propitiate lord, his body atrophied and his hair grew wild. Lord Shiva  was pleased to see the tapas of the king and appeared before him and asked him for a boon.

 The king prostrated and requested Lord Shiva  that he should stay in the village forever and remove the suffering of the people. Lord Shiva  accepted the request of King Bhadrasena and stayed in Shivpuri Nagari thereafter forever. A Naagar Shiv devotee Nathji Baba built a Shiv temple. It is said Lord Shiva  himself hinted to Nathji Baba about the construction of the temple in a dream. Accordingly MangalGiri Maharaj started Dhuni.

        The specialty of this Shivlinga  is, it is not made of stone but made of sand known as “Marad”. There is a hole in the linga, through which holy water keeps on flowing, which people take to their homes, as a blessing from Lord Shiva. Many people tried to draw all the water from the hole and empty it but failed. People believe that this water is part of Ganges.

 It is believed that the Shivlinga  rises about the length of a grain of rice each year. There is a 350 year old stairwell nearby the temple; legend has it that there is a path to Kaashi from here. It is also said that Paandavas stayed here during their exile.         The surface of this Shivlinga is rough and gives the impression of a rudraksha beed. It is also believed that Lord Shiva  visits this temple on the day of Shivratri in disguise.

        There are many stories current about the people’s wishes fulfilled, who come here from thousands of miles to get relief from their sufferings.  A large number of devotees come to the temple on Shivratri and during the Shravan month.

ஷெஹ்ராவில் மார்தேஸ்வர் கோயில்

        குஜராத் மாநிலத்தில் பஞ்சமஹால்ஸ் என்ற மாவட்டத்தில் ஒரு கிராம பாலிகந்தா உள்ளது. ஷாஹெரா கிராமத்திலிருந்து 1 கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவில் “மர்தேஷ்வர் மகாதேவ்”  என்ற கோயில் உள்ளது . மர்தேஷ்வர் மகாதேவ் சுயமாக வெளிப்படுகிறார்.

        இந்த பழங்கால சிவன் கோயில் மாநில நெடுஞ்சாலை எண் 5 இல் அமைந்துள்ளது மற்றும் இது கோத்ரா மற்றும் லுனாவாடாவிலிருந்து சமமாக உள்ளது. பண்டைய காலங்களில் ஷாஹெரா “சிவபுரி நகரி” என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டது, பின்னர் இது ஷாஹெரா என்று பெயரிடப்பட்டது. ஷாஹெராவில் உள்ள அனைத்து சிவன் கோயில்களும் மர்தேஷ்வர் மகாதேவின் அளவுகளில் மூன்றில் ஒரு பங்கு என்று புராணக்கதை .

        புராணக்கதை நமக்குக் கூறுகிறது, சிவபுரி நகரி (ஷாஹெரா) மன்னர் பத்ரசேனனால் ஆளப்பட்டது. இந்த நகரம் வறட்சி அல்லது எதிரிகளின் தாக்குதல்களால் பல முறை பாதிக்கப்பட்டது. பத்ராசென் மன்னன் தன் மக்களை நேசித்தான், அவனுடைய குடிமக்களின் துயரத்தைக் காண முடியவில்லை, அவர்களுடைய துன்பத்தைத் தணிக்க விரும்பினான், ஆகவே, சிவபெருமானைப் பிரியப்படுத்த முடிவு செய்தான் .

        இந்த சிந்தனையைத் தொடர்ந்து, மன்னர் பத்ரசேனா காட்டுக்குச் சென்றார். அவர் இறைவனைப் பிரியப்படுத்த ஒரு கொடிய தவத்தைத் தொடங்கினார், அவரது உடல் சிதைந்து, தலைமுடி காட்டுத்தனமாக வளர்ந்தது. சிவபெருமான்  ராஜாவின் தபஸைக் கண்டு மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்து அவன் முன் தோன்றி ஒரு வரம் கேட்டார்.

        மன்னர் ஸஜ்தா செய்து சிவபெருமானைக்  கோரினார்அவர் என்றென்றும் கிராமத்தில் தங்கியிருந்து மக்களின் துன்பங்களை அகற்ற வேண்டும். சிவபெருமான்  பத்ரசேனரின் வேண்டுகோளை ஏற்று சிவபுரி நகரியில் என்றென்றும் தங்கியிருந்தார். ஒரு நகர் சிவ பக்தர் நாத்ஜி பாபா ஒரு சிவன் கோவிலைக் கட்டினார். ஒரு கனவில் கோவில் கட்டுவது குறித்து சிவபெருமான்  நாத்ஜி பாபாவிடம் சுட்டிக்காட்டியதாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது . அதன்படி மங்கல்கிரி மகாராஜ் துனியைத் தொடங்கினார்.

        இந்த சிவலிங்கத்தின்  சிறப்பு என்னவென்றால், இது கல்லால் ஆனது அல்ல, ஆனால் “மராத்” எனப்படும் மணலால் ஆனது. லிங்கத்தில் ஒரு துளை உள்ளது, இதன் மூலம் புனித நீர் தொடர்ந்து ஓடிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது, மக்கள் தங்கள் வீடுகளுக்கு எடுத்துச் செல்கிறார்கள், சிவபெருமானின் ஆசீர்வாதமாக. பலர் துளையிலிருந்து அனைத்து நீரையும் இழுத்து அதை காலி செய்ய முயன்றனர் ஆனால் தோல்வியடைந்தனர். இந்த நீர் கங்கையின் ஒரு பகுதி என்று மக்கள் நம்புகிறார்கள். ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் ஒரு தானிய அரிசியின் நீளம் பற்றி சிவலிங்கா 

        உயர்கிறார் என்று நம்பப்படுகிறது . கோயிலுக்கு அருகில் 350 ஆண்டுகள் பழமையான படிக்கட்டு உள்ளது; இங்கிருந்து காஷிக்கு ஒரு பாதை இருப்பதாக புராணக்கதை கூறுகிறது. நாடுகடத்தப்பட்ட காலத்தில் பாண்டவர்கள் இங்கு தங்கியிருந்ததாகவும் கூறப்படுகிறது. இந்த சிவலிங்கத்தின் மேற்பரப்பு கரடுமுரடானது மற்றும் ஒரு ருத்ராட்சா தேனீவின் தோற்றத்தை அளிக்கிறது. சிவபெருமை நாளில் மாறுவேடத்தில் சிவபெருமான்  இந்த கோவிலுக்கு வருவார் என்றும் நம்பப்படுகிறது .

        மக்களின் விருப்பங்களை நிறைவேற்றுவது பற்றி பல கதைகள் உள்ளன, அவர்கள் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான மைல்களிலிருந்து இங்கு வந்து தங்கள் துன்பங்களிலிருந்து நிவாரணம் பெறுகிறார்கள். சிவராத்திரியிலும், ஷ்ரவன் மாதத்திலும் ஏராளமான பக்தர்கள் கோயிலுக்கு வருகிறார்கள்.
